The Arabian Nights script revision is underway! Currently 96% of the script is translated, the missing 4% is being taken care by Hector. Also, a small poll about future use of dumped scripts requires your attention!

I don't know why nobody seems very interested in doing that game. There hasn't been any real progress on it in years. I will see to it that this game gets done before I retire from ROMhacking. I really enjoy that game. And from what I know about the story, it's kick ass. Nothing like opening up the gates of hell.

I know nobody has bothered to crack the SPC7110 used, however I don't think it's really necessary to do the translation at all.

The SPC7110 has been cracked enough to produce graphics packs for it, the problem is no one has the motivation to make said packs, apparently.

I thought they hacked an SNES, so they could dump the VRAM to a PC whenever they wanted (ignoring how it got from ROM to VRAM)?

I coulda sworn they learned how to emulate the chip so as to obviate the need for graphics packs.

All I know is, I once tried to get FEOEZ working on SNES9X using graphics packs, and failed miserably. >_>

That was propably the S-DD1 chip.

This might not be correct, but didn't Dejap reverse enigineer Star Ocean to make it so the graphic packs weren't necessary. I believe SO and FEOEZ use the same chip.

Nope. The S-DD1 is fully emulated in ZSNES and SNES9x and has been since 1.40, ISTR. FEOEZ uses the S-DD1, as does Star Ocean.

The SPC7110 still requires graphics packs, however.

Street Fighter Alpha 2 and Star Ocean use the SDD1.
SPC7110 was used only by Hudson Soft (FEOEZ, Momotarou Dentetsu Happy, Power League 4, any others?)

Correct. As I mentioned in my previous post, FEOEZ uses the SPC7110. That is NOT emulated by any emulator yet. Those games still use graphics packs.

As I mentioned though, this is fairly irrelevant for a translation of this game. You can do most all of the required work without having to do anything with the graphics packs. In the event that do have to modify a few of the graphics packs graphics, you can most likely expand the ROM(It's large already, but there's still room for expansion) and store and load them there. That way, it's future proof and won't break when the chip is ever emulated.

I just got it to work the other day. I downloaded the FEOEZ Pack from here. Then I unzipped the two files put them in a folder labeled FEOEZSP7 and put that folder in the Packs folder in SNES9X.

When you first load FEOEZ you have to push the A button then reload the game and push the B button then reload the game again. Finally when you run the game the third time it should work.
