SNES9x, looks like RA is still in 1.58, as I pulled that from the online updater this morning.  Maybe it's an emulator issue?

BSNES-Mercury also checks out, just did a look in Performance.

I just tried starting a new game to see if I could reproduce the error. If I named my character "Andrew", I had no problems—but if I left the name blank and just pushed Start, the screen went black and the game froze.

Ahh, that's it! I left the name blank since I was just testing it quickly, I tried again by giving the hero "ABC" as his name, and the intro worked, still a bug though.

It seems previous versions don't even let you leave the name screen if the name is blank, but v1.6 lets you press start to get past it.

It did not occur to me to try and not name a character.

Not sure how hard this would be to implement, but it would be neat to add the official name as a default that appears if you leave it blank.

The Action Grid text at the top of the screen is messed up in 1.6 and the weapon levels on the right of the same screen are not showing.

If this gets fixed down the line, it might be worth making it so it defaults to Randi, Primm and Popoi if not named :3

Ha, I never thought that either.  I just usually put in a name out of reflex.

Anyway I agree with either what they mentioned, or the game lists a default name on the name field like a lot of RPGs do.

Incoming v1.6b?

Probably not the default name thing but the bug fix will be coming soon.

You may have already seen this typo report in the other thread, but just in case...

Thanks for your work.

My apologies for the buggy release. I'm sorry it took so long for me to get a fix out to you. Turns out there were some systemic problems that arose from reverting back to the vanilla punctuated message system. I essentially had to take this thing all the way back to v1.5 then I had to systematically eliminate which of the numerous changes were wreaking havoc with the original messaging system. Then, I had to rebuild the whole damn thing.Thankfully, while I was trying to balance these problems with life. Queue came to the rescue and fixed the bugs in Regrs' mixed casing code.

I learned a little bit while I was tinkering with the unreasonably fickle Lunar Magic messages and I found a few more working messages, so I implemented those while I was in there. There's a little bit more than just bug fixes in this one so I went ahead with a whole new version number.

Thanks for all of the bug reports. They make a huge difference.

v1.7 Changes
- Changed "Raring to go!" to "Ready for a fight!"
- Changed "Burned out!" to "All tuckered out!"
- Changed "Enemy wimps out!" to "Ha! Buncha' wimps!"
- Changed "Won't fit!" to "doesn't fit."

v1.6b Changes
- Fixed "I'm was born in the Empire..."
- Fixed minor text oversights.
- Changed casing format that caused "'s Poisoned!" to display as "      P".
- Fixed Action Grid text bug.
- Fixed crash that occurs from trying to skip naming a character.

Isn't that always the way. You try to fix something and it knocks out the whole house of cards. Well done man

So, one thing I don't really see clarified is:

Is this like Project II, where the best parts of existing scripts are retrofitted into the game?

Like, aside from renaming things and inserting the new translation's intro, does this hack actually use the new translation in any meaningful way? Like, is it FuSoYa's script, changed and corrected to more accurately reflect the actual new translation, a la Ted Woolsey Uncensored?

At any rate, this is a pretty great-looking hack. :)

The reason there isn't much explanation on what Relocalized does to the script is because there isn't very much that Relocalized actually does with FuSoYa's script.

I changed a few lines here and there. I removed a lot of references to other games and TV shows. I updated a handful of names. I removed a reference to Popoi's gender. I fixed a lot of typos. That's it.

FuSoYa's script is a simple expansion of Woolsey's script. It's sort of a "What If" Woolsey had more space on the rom and more time to translate hack.

With regards to his script, Relocalized updates it a little.

I wonder if Secret of Evermore is coded similarly to Secret of Mana..
Square used a lot from the Seiken Densetsu 2 engine, but there were enough changes that it has a learning curve if you're wanting to tinker with it's code.

I think aside from the bug fixes that assassin17 made, all Secret of Evermore really needs is an optional patch to swap the functionality of the A and B Buttons. You can swap your attack and dash buttons, but you can't swap your confirm and cancel buttons in the menu. It sucks!
All my life I've tried to fight what history has given me.
