Hex editor question
« on: September 28, 2018, 09:39:17 pm »
Hi, folks. I was wondering if it's possible to insert bytes one at a time with WindHex (as opposed to just overwriting them). If not, can someone recommend a different Windows-compatible hex editor with text table support that can do this?
Sneko, the Super Nintendo Entertainment Kitty, wishes you luck.

With HxD it is easy to insert bytes. Winhex is able to resize the ROM what you need to expand or rework the header. I never played around with dumping things into but I guess it will overwrite the space as it should. In the normal use you like to keep the size of the ROM since when you increase the offset (inserting bytes) the pointers will no longer point to the correct offset. In other words the file will no longer be executable and useless.
