Wait - if this is true:
Quote
Edge (one weapon on either hand):
Base Attack Power = Weapon's Attack Power
Then wouldn't the end result be 255 attack power if the weapon's power is 255?

Does this issue not crop up when anybody else equips the weapon? Because if this is true:
Quote
All single handed characters:
All Weapons that Don't Involve a Bow and Arrow:
Base Attack Power = Weapon's Attack Power + Str/4 + Level/4
Then shouldn't a 255 power weapon overflow with a one-handed character, too (assuming strength and level are both over 4)?

At any rate, if you're ok with capping the value at 255. I could probably make that happen. I've never looked into how the game actually goes through its algorithm to set attack power, but it shouldn't be too difficult to screw with it a little.

Good point. I guess then the question is if this "Base Attack Power" ever exceeds 255 internally. If it really caps at 255, then there's no issue making it 2-handed. However, a player wouldn't be able to equip a shield with it which is something I wouldn't want.

That'd be great if you could take a look! Thanks in advance and I'd credit you of course! :)
If you'd like, I could also send you a file with a 255 weapon equippable by Edge to test this out.
Wonder if capping it would cause issues with other attack algorithm though...

Huge update!
Ok it's finally done and submitted to the site! :)

What started out as a small, simple update turned into a massive one that had me creating, testing, and spending weeks of my time this past month to inplement a bunch of new stuff to the hack! ;) Here's a short list of what's been added(from readme.txt):
Quote
Dark Knight Cecil now dual-wields and is 2-handed!! Have fun! :)
3 new enemies! 2 bosses and 1 regular enemy.
5 new boss fights! 1 just before half way and 4 at endgame.
3 endgame weapons now obtainable in final hidden area of the game instead of relying on ultra-rare drops.
2 new shields!
1 brand new OP endgame weapon that requires finding hidden path and defeating optional OP boss to acquire.
Brand new hidden areas at endgame that contain new weapons and bosses!!
New areas at endgame!
Certain characters can now equip more weapons!
Plus many more minor changes and edits.
Saves from previous versions WILL GLITCH. It's advised that you start a new game.

And with said, some screenies:

Snake Rattle 'n' Roll!

Better break out that sunblock lotion!

Hmmm...how do I get there?

That knife...is floating on nothingness...

Oh yeah!!

Omega?

Ooooo...save spot!

Yes! I got here!

Yeah, that's a leap of faith alright...

Do I really have to choose between the girl and the sword?

Hope you all enjoy the new content!! :D

Cheers!!

I plan to give this a run through sometime next week, hopefully you'll iron out the bugs by then, predicting v2.0p by then :P, but anyway are your docs up to date for the 2.0 version? Like the boss FAQ and weapons, ect. found on your site here. http://www.8bitfan.info/

Hi Special! :)
Yup, I just submitted another updated version to v2.10(should be the last update for a while, I promise :) ). Feel free to wait for that one as it has several important updates to bosses and items/weapons stats. However, if you are eager, you can start playing with the current version 2.0b and switch to 2.10 when RHDN approves it. Your saves will transfer from 2.0b to 2.10 without problems, and the changes affect late game stuff only.

I will eventually update the Boss/Weapons/Spells doc as well! Thanks for the reminder. I've just been so busy with other work, family and projects that I've barely found the time to update the hack itself...let alone the docs that come with it! ;) But they'll come eventually. Stay tuned! :)

Hope you enjoy all the additions in the hack! :)

Cheers!!

I see there is/was an update pending in the queue, about docs, so I went to check your site to check... RIP nicely formatted tables for easy viewing... Personally, I think you should go back to the old table style, but maybe some editors have weird formatting?

Hi Special! :)
Thanks for the suggestion! ;)
I thought this new format is more clean looking and fits better with narrow widths. But if you like the old format I could include both in the future!

I'd hate to bother you with boring doc updates, especially nagging you over two formats but IMO I think the old one is better suited for things like this (weapon/spell lists), it's easier to take in all the info at a glace.

Hi Special! :)
No worries it's not a bother at all. I'll put together another updated doc when I have time and I'll upload it to the site. ;)

I'm loving your hack, it's brought new life into the game so much that I'm actually near completing it.  However I'm running into an issue: Zemus' Spirit is wrecking me hard.  My entire party is around lvl 50 but the only people who can survive are cecil and Kain.  Most likely due to their elemental resistance gear.  I don't have any gear for Edge, Rydia, and Rosa.  What am I supposed to do?  Am I supposed to go grind for the super rare Ribbons?

Hi Coolidge!
Thanks for the kind words and I'm very glad you're enjoying the hack! :)

Here are some hints to your question:
Spoiler:
Are you referring to the boss fight at the entrance of the Lunar Subterrane? If so, there are a few things you could do. Besides putting on magical gears to boost your magic defenses, you can cast Wall or use LightVeils/LunarVeils on your party to reflect pretty much any spells coming from Zemus' Spirit. Another thing to check for is your Battle Speed in the menu, slowing the Battle Speed down should help tremendously.

Hope that helps and feel free to let me know if you have any other questions!

Cheers!!

I see that you updated your hack with an update of chillyfeez's user controls, it was in the queue the same time as his update 3.1 bug fix, is that one yours? Or did you do the 3.0 release. Also chillyfeez has an optional patch "Change to Cache", is that compatible with Ultima?

UO 3.1 was a direct result of a bug 8.bit found in 3.0.
If I'm not mistaken, you should have no problem patching Change to Cache into Ultima.
But make a copy first just in case.

Thanks for the answer and good to know, that "Change to Cache" is such a nice change, not sure I can ever go back to vanilla and having it as "Row" again. In RPG's I hate limited inventory space, I much prefer to horde.

Just trying this for the first time, enjoying it so far. Is there a chance that you could make a secondary patch that skips the story dialogue? FF4 is way too thick with plot that you can't skip (the intro for instance is a major candidate). Also can you make in town/dungeon running a toggle instead of hold? I'm playing on a 2DS and holding Y to run is rather awkward, and I've kind of gotten used to it after playing FF4 Free Enterprise.

Thanks for the time you've put into it.

That secondary patch you're asking him to make goes way beyond just a little work, if you hate the story so much, I suggest using an emulator and just "turbo" + "mash A button" to speed though those parts.

The point is that that is not a reasonable request.
If you like Ultima but don't like the dialogue, and know how to edit the game yourself, have at it.
