Super Mario Bros - Josiah Winslow's hack
« on: February 20, 2018, 06:45:31 am »
I've done quite a bit of hacking work on Super Mario Bros, and I'm pleased to show off my progress.

This hack mainly changes up the graphics, most notably making many things more detailed. However, I have quite a few ASM hacks as well, including but not limited to:

  • A more fair powerup system (Small Mario collecting a Fire Flower turns into Fire Mario instead of just Super Mario; Fire Mario gets one extra hit)
  • Disabled powerup flashing
  • Incremental point system when killing enemies with Starman
  • Fixed lives display
  • A new peace-sign sprite, used before each level and while entering vertical pipes

Download the .ips patch here.

Peace-sign sprite?

A sprite of Mario giving the peace sign, I assume, like in Mario All-Stars.

This looks great. I'm usually not very impressed with facelift hacks, but this one is fantastic. And the QOL additions are a welcome change too.  I love the new Mario sprite, but I do kind of wish it kept the red overalls and blue shirt look. Always liked his classic colors from the old artwork more than the modern ones.
