Annoying Gaming Habits (Yours or Others')
« on: November 08, 2017, 02:36:43 pm »
I'm discovering that I have an annoying (to myself) habit of whistling game music when I'm playing. I'm a musician, it's like I have a kneejerk instinct to make music.

Any gaming habits of yours (or someone else you know) that irk you a bit?

To name a few
Setting ridiculous challenge runs.
Putting on nostalgia goggles in regards to bad games.
Backburnering things until I forget them, resulting in a reset when I come back.
Ignoring important tasks to focus on gaming *cough* Shindou 64 Hacks *cough*

My spending habits are also in a league of their own,
I want to support good games but I'm also just feeding the backlog.

note:
Items 1&2 combined made me start a challenge run of Dark Cloud of all things,
this game is abysmally balanced, grindy as hell, poorly written/translated, and has a ton of bugs, the texture work and lighting also makes my eyeballs feel like hot coals.

I had one nasty habit. And I lost it because of one game.

When I was younger I was one hell of a scavenger. I made it a point to collect every g***** item AND kill every single enemy.

But that vulture-mentality changed one wonderful day when playing the shooter F.E.A.R. (2005):

I was doing a mission in which I had to escort an NPC named Alice Wade. I was inside an elevator with her, shooting everything on sight then coming back inside the lift of course , then Alice Wade freaked out and told me something that linger in my mind to this day:

Alice Wade: "YOU DON'T HAVE TO KILL EVERYBODY"

Surprisingly for the Rambo that I was, her remark hit me in the head, I really thought it over. It was a defining moment in my gaming life. From that day I stopped beeing a friggin' scavenger.

When I was younger, I smashed my fists on my laptop keyboard in a fit of gamer rage (it was Quake Live), and it destroyed the hard drive.

I actually smack my laptop around the area where the hdd is whenever it lags,
I know it's probably more harmful than helpful but I can't help doing it anyway.

Off topic, but related to this... I used to have a desktop PC that (I always assumed) had a bad fan, so occasionally it would just hang on startup. When this happened I discovered that a reliable way to get things going would be to lift the front of the computer up about two inches off the desk and drop it. That would effectively kick the fan into gear and allow startup to resume.

I had a similar problem with a desktop PC I had in kollej. The fan would spontaneously stop working, so I had to bitchslap the side of the chassis with the fan to get it to start up again.

That reminds me of the story i heard about PC deliverymen being instructed to drop them in order to reseat components that got jostled lose in transit, allegedly even repairmen would do the same thing.
