Pokemon Fire Red Hacks
« on: October 16, 2017, 08:24:19 pm »
Currently playing Pokemon Rocket Science, Rocket Edition and Gary's Mod. These are all mods for Fire Red for GBA and I am loving them. Rocket Science is the only completed one, so I have to wait for updates on the other two, but any game where you can steal other trainer's pokemon and use them is a winner. The stories are refreshingly original as well. Having a bit of an issue transferring the save file (not save states) between My Boy app on android and VBA on my windows pc tho. Oh well, still having a great time! Anyone interested in these should definitely look into them!

If we're talking strictly Fire Red, I always like to suggest Yet Another Fire Red Hack.

GBA-Pokemon-Wise I always like to suggest Touhou Puppet Play Purple.

Light Platinum's a good hack to playthrough. Crazy graphics, plenty of 'mons, though the writing isn't the best.

If you like adult humor (not talking porn or anything), then Pokemon Clover might be up your alley. It's a complete hack in just about every single way imaginable, from new pokemon, to new music, and some great areas to run around and explore. It also has some of the most hilarious writing I've seen in a hack.

Pokemon Shiny Gold Sigma is flat out awesome. Not sure how up to date it is on RHDN's database, but currently there's pretty much EVERY POKEMON EVER in it. Starts off being a jacked out remake of G/S/C with extra things to do all over the place. Again, not sure how up to date it is in this site's database, but an update scheduled for November 9th adds in the Hoenn region, on top of the Johto, Kanto, AND Orange Islands regions that are already there. Just don't play it on PSP - it's GBA emulator can't handle it Everything else seems to run it great.
Like Super Mario Land? Then you'll love my first completed Rom Hack: Maniac on the Run!

Check out Nameless FireRed Project.  It takes the absurd idea of stuffing a ton more Pokemon than warranted into vanilla Kanto and makes it work.  Keep in mind that things like Pokedex entries are still WIP and there are a couple bugs (and it's kinda been a year since the last update apparently... but it's all very playable.)

Also Pokemon Sweet Version and it's sequel.  They have their bugs but the concept is pretty well realized.

Not sure how up to date it is on RHDN's database
He does update the page here, but I haven't much of a clue what the latest is.  Latest patch wherever I see it is February.

I'll definitely check these out. I'm still a huge fan of Ultra Violet as well.

I wonder if that sort of difficulty is a common thing in Pokemon hacks.

That is how I felt like playing Glazed. Like you better play how the hack designer wanted you to or you're screwed.
Spoiler:
I played as far as the water Gym. Kingdra and Milotic together are way too OP for like a third Gym badge. One or the other would've probably been an appropriate difficulty curve. I ended up having to grind up a Magnemite just to counter them. Is needing to find and grind certain mon to get passed walls a common thing in Pokemon hacks?

most hacks have crappy difficulty curves/pokemon selections tbh
pokemon gaia when it comes out completely is another good one but it's only in beta atm
