This is an interesting script since it's all kana. It's technically all katakana, but this script dump is all hiragana for sanity.

I'm stuck on the following lines. They are random NPC lines as far as I know unless otherwise noted.

--------------------------------------

Not sure about the "hoi" here. Like "koi" maybe?
"Come this way. I'll defeat you."(?)

--------------------------------------

Something about a lamp which is an item in this game.
Not sure what you may know. "Do you know the make of the lamp?"(?)

--------------------------------------

There's a town to the northern, or is is southern outskirts(?)

These lines directly follow the above lines but probably aren't related. I think this has to do with paying for information, maybe?

--------------------------------------

Again I think this is paying for info.
Shaku?

。。<END>

--------------------------------------

This is about a password within the game. You collect a bunch.
"As for that you should say a password there is no limit?" Kagiranai?

I just want to say that if you're working on Sherlock Holmes, that's great! :) As you may or may not be aware, I've got a project to translate as many early Famicom games as possible. This would be one of the few remaining, from 1986 and earlier, so keep up the good work! :)

As for the script, I'm a bit tied up today so can't sit down and look in detail. Have you played through the game to find these lines, or watched a longplay where they might occur? Context can really help. I've changed translations late in a project when I realised what the context was going to be.

I'm not "working on it" so much as just translating the script, but yeah, hopefully this will be another one off the list! I am aware of your efforts and highly applaud them! :woot!:

There is a long play, but as is often the case with Japanese games, the player skips the text so fast it's essentially worthless. I have considered playing the game a bit for some additional context, but I haven't done so yet. I'd also just as soon move on to my other scripts. :P

I've had the same experiences though. I always feel I get better with each script, but even my latest scripts I've translation checked and gone, "Oh, I can't believe I almost turned in/released the script with that line like that." Double and triple checking is necessary, and playing in context is important, if it's not done by the translator, at least by a script editor.

Shaku?

One meaning of 'shaku' is "cause of offence, annoyance", so my interpretation by that logic is "talking for that kind of money is annoying/offensive", or more idiomatically, "you're gonna need more than that to get me to talk". Just a suggestion. :)

Someone hasn't played much RPS in Japanese.

Essentially, this is an extra game sometimes played at the end of Rock Paper Scissors. It literally means "Look that way, now!" or some such. The person who wins RPS will say that and then point their finger in one of the four cardinal directions. Then the person who lost has to look with their head in one of those directions. If they look in any other direction than the one the winner pointed in, they lose and the process starts over again (from RPS).

So something like "Look thataway, now!" and then "You lose."

"I've heard it's either at the town far to the north or far to the south."

(Could be different depending on context.)

"I'm shocked. You honestly think I'd talk for that little money?"

。。<END>

"It pains me to talk for this little money."

"It's probably best to have more than one password." (Lit. "It isn't such that saying one password is a good thing")

The ones about lamps and England I have no idea without context.

I was thinking "おってる" might be "思ってる" in this context, but I hate making assumptions. Seems to make sense though.

I think the first set of lines is:

イギリスについて
20字以内で述べよ

"Describe England to me in 20 characters or less."

I think the second set is:

ランプの精って
知ってるかい?

Where ランプの精 refers to the Genie of the Lamp from the "Arabian Nights" stories.
I'm not sure if this is a throwaway line or relevant to the game's plot.
Soon the super karate monkey death car would park in my space. But Jimmy has fancy plans... and pants to match. The monkey clown horrible karate round and yummy like cute small baby chick would beat the donkey.

Pretty sure it's throwaway.

Thanks! Now I'll do a translation check, edit, and spellcheck, and this will be one more script down.
