This has been fixed for v2.02!

If you're going to do another minor update, may I suggest decreasing the width of the space character? From a visual standpoint there's a _little_ too much space between words.

While we agree with that sentiment, we decided to leave it as-is because we only noticed it halfway through patch development. We had already manually formatted much of the text with the original space width in mind, so decreasing it would mean we would have to reformat the entire script again.

Yeah, that is something I regret not having noticed earlier in the process. The BST patch uses 8 pixels for its space, while I feel 5 would've been optimal given the font's average width.

Ironically, I might've fixed this in my own translation at one point and just forgotten all about it by the time this project materialized. Part and parcel of tinkering with a game for what's essentially a decade and a half, I suppose.

Due to the recent exposure from the Polygon article, v2.02 will be launching sooner than anticipated: tonight!

http://www.romhacking.net/translations/4654/

Changelog:
- Typo fixes reported by Ami Sapphire, Sissy Blade, and Awakened.

Edit 1 - Now live on RHDN

Edit 2 - OK, I didn't want to have to address it like this, but I guess I feel like I have to.

So, after Siliconera, Sailor Moon News covered us with an original article, prompting Polygon and later Paste Magazine to create their own. The problem is Sailor Moon News only played the first few minutes of the game, and Polygon reused their comparison shots, namely a set of Shingo saying "Get out of my room" in BST's project, versus "Get outta my room" in ours. This has led people to believe we only changed some grammatical tenses. That's simply not the case.

We've fixed dialogue written whole-cloth by BST, mistranslations of many kinds (Reversed meaning, confusing the subject and object, reading a word wrong), as well as translating Japanese text that was left romanized and removing honorifics.

BST did a great job with the tools they had, but I feel like we're being undersold due to coming second. Therefore, I've made what I call a "comparison album" of screenshots between the two versions.

https://imgur.com/a/XPdhk8W

The "400+ mistranslations" estimate is low-balling, if you want me to be honest. mziab and our auxiliary translators have likely retranslated about 30% of the game text.

I was replaying the game with the old translation when I saw this yesterday, and words can't express how happy I am! I am already halfway through Mercury's quest, however I found a mistake in programming (maybe?).

Sailor Mercury's specific accessories, S. Earring and the other one which I can't remember the name of, share the same description ATTACK UP For Sailor Mercury, although S. Earring bursts out her defense. I'm sorry, I can't provide screenshots but I'll edit the post with them as soon as I can.

Thank you so much for your re-translation and localization of the game! I can't wait to play through it all  :)

Thanks for your report, ran. No screenshots will be necessary!

mziab and I discovered that there were actually a few incorrect gemstone accessory descriptions... Some stemmed from the BST project, others from the JP original.

- S.Earring claimed its highest increase was ATK, but it rose DEF and SPD most (No room to indicate both, so SPD was chosen)
- RubyTiara claimed its highest increase was ATK, but it rose DEF most
- EmrldRing claimed its highest increase was ATK, but it rose DEF most
- Tpz.Tiara claimed its highest increase was SPD, but it rose DEF most
- RbowPlume claimed its highest increase was SPD, but it rose DEF most
- AmEarring claimed its highest increase was SPD, but it rose EVA most
- AqEarring claimed its highest increase was SPD, but it rose DEF most
- Amulet claimed its highest increase was SPD, but it rose DEF most

Regardless of whether or not the Japanese version or v1.00 was the culprit, each description has been changed to reflect the stat it increases highest. This will be present in v2.03.

Thank you!

Quick question: will the in-game save states (from the diary) be able to be used in future patch versions by any chance?

Yes, you will be able to! In-game saves made using the Diary are compatible with every version of SMAS, as far as I know.

Emulator saves from older versions should work as well, since we haven't done any drastic changes to the inner workings of the game that could affect execution state. Unless it's a savestate right in the middle of displaying text, you should be good. And even then, most that you'd get would be one glitched window of text, I'd imagine.

Happy Birthday, Usagi and Chibi-Usa Tsukino!

v2.03 is out today, containing the gemstone accessory description fixes, and what we hope are the last of the typo reports.

Download it here: http://www.romhacking.net/translations/4654/

Saves made with the Diary will be compatible with all other revisions and versions. (e.g., you can upgrade from v2.02 to v2.03 and still use the same save; you can load a Diary save from the Japanese version or BST's v1.00 no problem; etc.)

The name of the first chapter in the game is now Hell Destiny, isn't it supposed to be Her Destiny?

No, it is not. The name in katakana is "Heru Desutini". "Her Destiny" would be "Haa Desutini". "Hell Destiny" is the name of the enemy group (Sin, Nabu, Nergal, Marduk, Ishtar, Anshar, Kishar, Apsu). The Oppositio Soldiers are the subgroup of the main group (Dark Kingdom : Four Kings of Heaven; Black Moon : Spectre Sisters; Death Busters : Witches 5; Dead Moon Circus : Amazon Trio/Quartet; Shadow Galactica : Sailor Anima Mates).

Yeah, I figured the "Her Destiny" thing was a mistranslation. At least this is corrected with the correct translation.

Today, we celebrate 20 years of Sailor Moon: Another Story in English with v2.04.

- Typo fixes
- Minor font fix

https://www.romhacking.net/translations/4654/

It's not a huge amount of changes, but we wanted this potential final update to be released on a special date. Please enjoy, and as usual, apply the new patch to a Japanese ROM.
