Megaman: The Wily wars with 8 bit music possible?
« on: October 27, 2016, 05:25:33 pm »
I love the 8 bit soundtrack of the original 3 Megaman games. Is it posisble for the Megadrive to play 8 bit music? If it is, would it be possible for the all of the music from the 3 Megaman games to be replaced with their 8 bit counterparts? I know the PSP Megaman game was able to play 8 bit but I don't know if the Megadrive can.

Yes, you can get pretty close to the originals.

Here's a MD/GEN cover I did in Deflemask (actually an edit of someone else's cover) for the SMB1 theme, which strives for accuracy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gRe30TR0Qqk
You'd have to sample the noise drums to get them exactly the same though, the PSG chip in the MD (same as in SMS) isn't as flexible as the NES chip.

But placing them in the actual game is a different matter, maybe someone at Sonic Retro knows how.
