I need help with a bug in my translation (GBC romhacker needed)

UPDATE Nov 6 2016: I managed to fix the bug all by myself. A few different HEX values needed to be changed.

I agree with RandomHeretic. Giving more info on what goes wrong would help.
Especially - is it "just" a text incorrectly displayed or something else?
(Of course, a screenshot would do wonders, wouldn't it? :-) )

Typical Pointerissue... Trace the issue and correct the pointer. In this case you need a savestate!

Thanks

Those who have played through it have done so on repro cartridges on real hardware. That's why I don't have access to any savestate. Also, all savestates that I've found have been from the very last parts of the game (after you receive the drum).

Am I getting you right that this problem will be much harder (or even impossible) to locate without a savestate e.g. first step has to be to play through almost the entire game on emulator?

A person has agreed to help me if I play through the game.

Use cheats to beat dungeons faster:

Or use debug cheat. It has a text viewer so many you can see the text you want without playing the game.

The person who agreed to help me is stuck as well. If someone else is willing to help I have now played through the 8 first dungeons and I can provide screenshots and savestates.

Now I noticed another thing:
If I open the rom with the LALE editor (A Link's Awakening DX editor) it displays AAAAAAA etc. where the text about the Thunder drum should be.
Additionally a box saying "Question yes or no" is ticked. However, if I open the rom with a HEX editor the correct text is displayed in ASCII.

I've tried to change the text with LALE (both with and without the checkbox ticked) but then the room with the Thunder drum goes bananas (sprites are flying everywhere and I can't do anything). Also, the changed text appears in another place in the edited rom (a bit further down) if I open it in a HEX editor.

Later when I looked a bit more in LALE it seems like the correct text is at the end of something called pointer 106 (instead of 107 where it is supposed to be). I've read a few rom hacking documents and tried to look around with a HEX editor and pointer calculator, but I haven't been able to figure this out  :'(
