As for me, I'm still in, I just haven't had the time to keep working on this yet.
No rush...
Suprised it's been a while since there's been an update. You guys were really on fire with the updates for a while there.
Yeah same here, I'm still here, reading in the shadows. :P
The fact that there hasn't been that much movement here lately it's just because there hasn't been much to show.

As far as DoS portraits goes, all of the recently posted retouched images have been implemented already, but I don't think that's really worthy of a beta build. Right now it's only azulo's awesome work that I can gladly and patiently wait for, since I know that once he delivers, it'd be awesome. :P

But yeah, there's not really much to comment on.
There's Portrait of Ruin still yet to be done, but I would rather wait until DoS is done to start working on that one.
I could start working on some mockup portraits for it, but having two hacks side-by-side is usually not good. :P
I will, however, try to see what I can do in the meanwhile.

Isn't DOS done yet? I mean, you said 1.0 was just gonna be static faces. I'm looking to order that R4 early next month so I'd like a version to play through.

From this:

It looks like all sprites are accounted for.

It's not complete yet.
There's still Dario and Dmitrii, I didn't include those in the beta patches, nor are they included yet on my current build.
Although all the other are accounted for, yes.

I'm sure I saw portraits for all the characters tho, why don't you include them?

Nah.
It's just the build I have at the moment with the touch ups added and such.
I also added the portraits we already have for Dario and Dmitrii, but not the final ones of course.

Yes sir:

You haven’t inserted the new Celia yet?

I seem to have missed a few stray pixels in Arikado, so I'll amend that soon. Other than that, the touched-up portraits are looking really good. Haven’t looked at Dario and Dmitrii yet, since I first gotta figure out the most efficient way of getting to their dialogues.

Any luck with the Soma portrait in the menu, by the way? If you can extract it, I can whip up a replacement.

This is actually the final version of that Dario:

Smaller, and more in scale with the other portraits.

Hey Johann!
Yeah sorry, I did use the first Celia portrait I got from azulo and not the latest one.
I already added it to my build, I also added the Dario one you made to my personal build too.
All the others should be the latest ones provided by all of you guys. :)

As for the menu portrait for Soma, I haven't located it yet. :/
I did make a visual search in the ROM from where the graphics seem to start until where they seem to end, but couldn't find anything yet.
If someone wants to try out looking for that one, it might be of great help.

When I need to locate graphics and I can't find it by quickly scrolling through the rom, I make a memory dump with the graphic loaded and find it there with a tile viewer. Then you can use a hex editor and search for the exact bytes that make up the graphic to quickly locate it in the rom.

Code: [Select]
-- PALETTES --
0x1F0224 = Soma Cruz menu portrait

-- GRAPHICS --
0x1F8050 = Soma Cruz menu portrait

The graphics for the menu portrait are stored in an odd manner, so you'll have to set the canvas width to 1-tile wide in tile molester to view them (which is probably why you didn't find them during your searches). After changing the canvans to 1-tile width, you can additionally turn off full canvas block size and increase the width again to view all the tiles as once.

I tried to make the most from the even more limited palette.

Slightly retouched Arikado, since some small issues popped up in-game (a few stray pixels). Also, I added a subtle pupil to his eye.

Holy hot damn, DarkSamus!
You're like saviour who comes down from the sky to make hacking wonders.
You talented individual. xD
Thank you for the help!

Really awesome work, Johann!
I will include the new Arikado this monday and will go my way around the Soma portrait to implement it in game. :)

Now that we are on it, I should probably start exporting the small portraits that appear in Julius mode, I already know the address which is 0x010F0818 (posted here http://www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php/topic,22445.msg318094.html#msg318094), I just need to find the palette for those.
Let me check to make a small image of them to have the base images ready for editing.

- Edited it a bit.  Not perfect by any means but thought I'd try to make it resemble the dialogue portrait more and fixed up a few messy pixels.  Work needs to be done though still with some of the hair, kind of a mess.  The shirt bothers the hell out of me as well.

Damn DarkSamus you're on fire. :P
Did you use NO$GBA's palette viewer to get the palette for the Julius mode HUD portraits?

Continuing with the images, here's the image for the Julius mode:

Simply ignore everything past Julius' portrait.

And here's the image I got for Soma in the menu.
I managed to get it fully viewable in Tile molester:

Here's what I did to make it work properly with Tile Molester:

1) Open up tile molester and the ROM.
2) Go to View -> Codec -> 4bpp linear, reversed-order to change the format to the correct one for the game.
3) Go to offset 0x1F8050 to find the graphics for the menu portrait.
4) Import the palette from the very same ROM. The offset for the palette is 0x1F0224 and it should be Size: 16.
5) Use the Decrease Width option until you cannot decrease the width anymore.
6) Go to View -> Mode -> 1-Dimensional.
7) Now, use the Increase Width option until the tiles for the menu portrait start aligning themselves.

Both images should already have their proper indexed palette, so you can edit over them and post back the edited image with the correct palette.

Edit:
@justin3009:
I edited a little bit of the eyes from your edit, here's what I have:

What do you guys think?
I already implemented that one into the ROM, I can still change it to whatever edit comes next. :P
