Mighty No. 9 hit Steam, anybody playing it yet?
« on: June 22, 2016, 08:07:32 am »
Got myself a copy of the game, been playing it non stop for two hours now. Gameplay is rock solid, pretty Megaman clone despite all negative feedback it got due to countless delays. So far so good.

Anybody else playing it or going to grab a copy?

It's getting panned pretty severely.  It's almost as if Capcom might have known what they were doing when they passed this up.  At this rate it will be available at a discount soon enough.

One can only hope that definitely-not-Castlevania will fare better.

Its art direction killed my interest pretty early on. Character designs far too similar to MM's to appreciate on their own, really generic bgrounds, explosions/effects that don't match the other assets' style, etc.

Gameplay might be good, but gameplay alone's not enough for me to devote any of my already limited game-playing time.

My PSN (Asia) codes doesn't work after a day of the game's release date. I opted for a PS3 version.  >:(
PSN ASIA codes needed a PSN ASIA account. Go figure.

You actually play as Call in one mission and in coop mode. As for the art style, it barely makes any difference when you're playing this at 60 fps with way too many enemies moving at once. Besides that, most of the bosses are well inspired and their designs look very cool even as 3D models.

Yes, I am loving it. I already got one on PS3. It's fun and I do not care about negative feedback anyway.

Wasn't aware it had coop mode. That alone will have me give it another chance eventually.

My PSN code worked. I didn't the play the game yet, but some people say it's good while others say it's bad. I just wish Inafune used the 4 million dollars that we gave him to give us a higher budget looking game instead of something you see on a mobile device. Those explosion effects look like something you would see in a CD-I game.

Most of the budget was eaten up handling the ten or so platforms the game exists on, as it turns out.

I imagine grabbing an engine that is not properly supported on the 3DS doesn't help both the cost and making good graphics.

Also, this, I feel, is all you need to know about the game in its current state(I expect patches to make it better):

It seems like a Sonic Boom situation here.
Except Sonic Boom fucking sucks, and I'm keeping it polite.

If I still had my WiiU on me, I'd have picked it up--sure, it's not a one-in-a-lifetime masterpiece, but it looks like the game has some more depth than the last time I looked at it!

We're talking an inanimate object here.  If it's anything but asexual and aromantic, the devs have some explaining to do.

Well... Maybe the robot has an old PC ISA sound card as part of its voice hardware?

(I'm sure that joke has been made many times by now.)

AAAHAHAHHA!! He said "it's gay," in the pejorative way as in it's bad, but you went the whole other direction with it! Everyone else would have taken it the first way, but nothing gets past you, Chronosplit!! AHahahahha!

The story in Ray's segment was so bad and almost physically painful to read, felt like a lobotomy for me tbh. I'd support a rewrite hack where most of the text and voice acting is cut, to make it more... bearable.

If someone could repurpose and fix the level design in a NES/SNES Megaman game that would be cool though.
