How do you hack the original Harvest Moon for the SNES?
« on: February 06, 2016, 11:26:26 pm »
I'm not looking to do anything advanced like changing the scripts/game mechanics. I just want to change the characters' sprite. As far as I know, its possible, but the only one I've seen is Harvest Moon: True Love Edition, and I'm not into that stuff.

Download YY-CHR and open the ROM in it. Then scroll down until you see stuff like this:

If you then want the proper colors (palette) make a save state in something like ZSNES and then load it as well.

This was what I got:

I loaded the ROM using Open, and selected Load Emulator File.

Did you then load a save state or did you try to load the emulator itself?

Did you use it to load a ZST (it may be compatible with other formats but I've never used them)?

Might seem like a dumb question, but was it from Harvest Moon and made when the character you wanted to edit was on screen?

Yeah. When I open the game YY-CHR, the sprites show fine, just like in your image. As soon as I load the save state, it turns into the image I posted. If it helps, the save state was taken in the Natsume intro.

Edit: It seems that saving states at different times, gave me a different palette.

Yeah. Those are the palettes that were loaded at the time. When you know what you want to edit, make a save state when it is on screen and then when you load that in YY-CHR one of the palettes in the menu/window on the bottom right will be the one you need.
