Before I buy it, do I need "USB copyNES" to convert mappers?

Oh. I thought you were asking if you needed USB copyNES before you bought something else. But that only brings up the question... Why would you need to convert mappers?

Because I just learned that we cannot switch banks from the hardwired bank. In mapper 5, we can switch banks anywhere, even in the hardwired bank. That why I couldn't switch banks from $C000-$FFFF.

I'm pretty sure this is something you'll have to do manually. I would think that mappers are varied enough that it would be almost impossible to make a tool that could effectively convert mappers for you. USB copyNES probably has features that could aid you in this given the "Reverse engineer games and mappers" in the description, but it would probably be best to ask the guy who runs retroUSB about what that means specifically. He's been pretty good about answering my questions over the past year or two.

I thought USB CopyNES was only for if you wanted to dump your actual NES carts (and I assume backup saves as well)?

Yeah it can back up saves and judging from the info and screenshots on the product page I assume it can do a few more things:

"Game and save dumper, reverse engineering tool, in system debugger, and cart flasher all in one!"
