Hey, did anyone have trouble getting Mednafen to work with this game?

We've rewritten the section of the README to make things clearer for anyone having trouble running the game on Mednafen.

We're going to be putting up a new build with this extra information, and also with an upgraded patching system that will handle .cue/.wav/.iso CD images as well as .cue/.bin CD images.

That'll make things easier for anyone that's having problems with ImgBurn, and wants to use TurboRip to get a "perfect" CD image of their original disc.

In the meantime, here are the new Mednafen instructions ...

---------------------------------------------------------------

2)  PLAYING THE GAME ON AN EMULATOR

This game only works 100% properly in Mednafen.

ME-FX has graphical problems that severely inhibit gameplay.

In order to run any PC-FX game in Mednafen, you must locate a copy of the
PC-FX BIOS and copy it to Mednafen's "firmware" folder.

Please note that there are are least 2 different versions of the PC-FX BIOS
commonly available on the internet, and only 1 of them works with Mednafen.

"NEC PC-FX BIOS (1994)(NEC)(JP).7z"     726.38 KB  <-- Does NOT work.
    "NEC PC-FX BIOS (1994)(NEC)(JP)[a].7z"  738.13 KB  <-- Works perfectly.

The BIOS file must first be uncompressed, and then renamed to "pcfx.rom".

    Directory of C:\emulators\mednafen\firmware\
    12/24/1996  10:32 PM         1,048,576 pcfx.rom

The MD5 hash of the pcfx.rom should be 08e36edbea28a017f79f8d4f7ff9b6d7.

Once the BIOS is set up properly, then running the Zeroigar game in Mednafen
is as simple as dragging-and-dropping the zeroigar.cue file onto mednafen.exe.

Alternatively, you can launch it via the command line, or even set up a
custom .bat file.

Probably one of these: 256x240p, 341x240p, 256x480i, 341x480i.

It's actually 256x232p.  Enjoy!  :)

One last little thing, since we're coming up on a month since release.

Here are two new youtube videos.

The first is a demonstration of the first four stages in full, including the cutscene right before the fifth stage. There are three more stages left in the game, which I don't want to spoil!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATWu0FgTLko

The second is the first stage of the "Sakuraigar Mode". You'll see that the enemies, the music, and the story are totally changed from the Anime Mode. It's quite a trip.

I hope this encourages more of you to try the game!

I certainly had trouble getting Mednafen to work with this game.

I'm using the Mednafen PC-FX Retroarch core on 64 bit Linux.

When I attempt to run this game, I can get to the start screen and startt the game, but after that as soon as the videos stop playing. the emulator crashes.  Pressing start to end the videos early just results in it crashing immediately.

I'm so sorry that you're having problems!  :(

I think that you're going to have to contact the RetroArch support guys on this one ... it sounds like their build is broken.

There's an "official" Windows build of Mednafen, or the Linux source that you can build yourself.

Sorry that I can't be of more help ... but the game has been tested on real PC-FX hardware, and on the "official" build of Mednafen, and it works fine on both of those.

This game is pretty fun had this working in mednafen, than had running in retroarch which fixed the aspect ratio and looked a lookout better on the HD crt. @Samiam thanks for helping me fix that *thumbs up*

Retroarch crashed for me, but Mednafen worked fine, although I'm suspicious about the aspect ratio (which is not the same one used by Retroarch).

I'd like to request a full playthrough of this (with cutscenes) so that those of us without the inclination to get it running on an emulator can experience the SHMUP-ness :)
In addition, a video on YouTube may survive significantly longer than the capability of find compatible stuff that get sit working in an emulator.

Would someone mind also adding in the SHA-1 and SHA-256 hashes of that compatible BIOS file?  It would be nice is all ^_^

Thanks for the feedback!

There will be a full playthrough on YouTube at some point, but the translation has only been available for a month now, so we'd really rather encourage people to actually play the game for a while, first.

Not sure why you'd want them, but here are the SHA1 and SHA256 for the BIOS ...
