I think there's be a lot of appeal for such a game, playing something like  a Classic 2D Zelda as Zelda.

There's a program called Zelda Classic which allows you to play fan-made games that were made with the program. There's a good (albeit difficult and a bit unfair) one called Legend of Lana where you play as Lana from Hyrule Warriors and it feels quite a bit different than your ordinary Zelda 1 romp. There's also several "Play as Zelda" quests for Zelda Classic, ranging from good to terrible.

Oh how I love classic Video Game commercials, they aren't as fun anymore, now they show off flashy graphics.

That is for the original NES Zelda but the sword kinda looks like the Master Sword.

Edit: I apologies that was a ToG commercial not NES.  Ganon also has the Trident.

I think the recent Linkle news is a good excuse to revive this topic.  I imagine it's only a matter of some before someone makes a Linkle inspired hack.

My ALttP hack has a female lead. I guess at this point she doesn't have a name though. I have the first half of two dungeons completed.

I'm redoing the main character sprites so for now I just have Link as a placeholder.

There's a heavy combat orientation to this game. You likely won't get a sword until the 3rd dungeon. You must fight with bombs and other items. It's not as impossible as it sounds, trust me.


The working title is "Dungeon Town" because of the overworld design I'm going for (more urban than rural).

The story is actually pretty sad but it will indeed be a fun game. It's been pretty fun testing what I've designed so far. You start out in a jail cell and must first escape the castle/dungeon. I figured that would be more fun and original than the usual "Here is Link's house. Here is Link's uncle. "Don't leave the house, Link. Bye.", Go somewhere and rescue Zelda, etc...".

Well the 4 this thread has lead me to are all I've found so far.  And they've been Zelda, no Female Links.

Still none doing it with AoL or LA.

Most people are busy with the far easier to create mods for the PC fangame.

But since you want AoL and LA specifically, then why don't you try for yourself?
Here, these are the offsets for Link's sprite for you to have fun with
Zelda 2: 22010 (8*8, 1t/l)
LA-DX*: 31800 (16*8, 16t/l)
* the censored version, to remove objectification of mermaids and hippos

Use the tile editor of your choice (tilemolester, or if you're uncomfortable with that one, crystaltile2).
Don't forget to experiment with the palette first to get the colors correct.

I recently had the urge to do a Zelda II hack with a female lead since I think that game is one of the coolest in the series and criminally underrated. I decided to pass on it though because I already had a Zelda hack in the works and didn't want to put too much on my plate (already made that mistake a few times since entering this scene).

By the way... What kind of name is Linkle? WTF? Is that even a real name? I remember one of the Planeteers was named Linka. That's a real name.

A Saturn game, appropriately a Zelda clone, is called "Linkle River Story" (or romanized as "Linkle Liver Story" on the manual)
I guess that's where they got the idea from probably.

Uhh actually, it does.   Hyrule Warrior on 3DS version, they will have female version of Link.   I am not joking.
