I'm now working on a new LTTP hack, which lets you play as a Saria-looking girl (not sure if I should make her Saria or not). And before that puzzledude guy comes in and starts saying crap, I know that something similar has already been done with the Ancient Stone Tablets (where the girl mascot is replaced by either Saria, Malon, or Impa), so yeah, I'm fully aware of that, but I'm sure it hasn't been done yet with LTTP, so yeah, BOOM! Original idea coming your way! I've taken the graphics from the girl mascot from the BS Zelda series, and made her hair green.

I've changed the healing fairy's graphics to look Navi-like!

Got the flute to look more like a recognizable ocarina (thanks to puzzledude for helping me find the icon graphics for items:D)

I edited the tile in the Eastern Palace where the Big Key appears to where it looks like it did in the original Japanese game. (thanks to puzzledude for helping me find where the graphic was for it in YY-CHR  :D) The original design was taken out when it came to America because it looked like the Star of David, and Nintendo couldn't add religious references to their games, so yeah, here's a little restore of how the game should've looked!

My first (Alpha) patch is FINALLY available for all of you who've been following this hack. Now note, I just threw this together, and it's subject to change for the final product, and not all the graphics changes are final (I know, the Link replacing Zelda didn't go too well... I'll improve it one way or another though!), but yeah, I hope you all enjoy this little, quick display of what the hack will be like.

How much data do you have available on the palettes?

I was thinking about making it to where you play as Saria, and you go save Link instead of Zelda. Now, if you have any ideas, I'll consider them!:D

Wow, that's looking pretty good:D Yeah, I understand where you're coming from with the whole graphics looking similar thing. Just look at Link's Graphics in Hyrule Magic as a point of reference. It's easier to distinguish what is what since it's in its original colors.

Thanks. I finally found a process that works for me. I have 3 copies of YY-CHR open (each loaded with a ZSNES savestate to display the correct palette), the first has the ROM I'm editing, the second has the patch Saeko made with Cosmo's Zelda sprites and a third with an unaltered ROM.

I use the unaltered ROM as a reference to how the motions should look or "feel". I use the one with the Zelda sprites because she's wearing a cape. That makes it MUCH easier to tell what's what and it also gives me an idea of how to "feminize" things when I get stumped.

Now that I found my rhythm I'm tearing right through this. As long as I don't get side-tracked I'm guessing I'll probably have my first draft of the main character graphics finished in a day or two.

Well awesome, glad to hear it!:D Yeah, I do something similar to that. I just pull up the original ROM and my modified one, and work side by side with it. But yeah, I hope your hack turns out well, which I bet it will. :woot!:

Nah, it's all good. And about the hair, I've tried to edit the ROM itself in Hyrule Magic, and then recompress graphics into the ROM afterwards, and they wouldn't recompress, so at the moment, I'm just focusing on the graphics, then editing the map and palettes themselves after. And thanks! I thought that the boomerang could use a new look, so yeah, glad you like it :D Just keep following this hack and watch it grow into an amazing final project :crazy:

You don't have to do all of that for Link's graphics, just nearly everything else in the game. True, his graphics will be with all of the other graphics when you make a dump, but if you just open the ROM up in something like YY-CHR, Link's graphics start at 80000 (without a header) and can be edited without having to dump and reinsert anything. And if you wonder which colors are what, the Zelda 3 Ccompendium doc tells which colors are used for what in the palettes section. Hope this helps, but if I simply misunderstood you perhaps there may still be some useful information here.

By the way, does anyone where the graphics are for Link's portrait that's on the "wanted" signs? I still haven't been able to find that.

About the "wanted sign" face, open the graphics bin, set the format to "2bpp GB" and go to the address 06E900 - 076800.

That's because the Alttp ROM is full of data to be exactly 1MB in size. When editing in HM you will gain more data, making it a non conventional size.

That's why you need to open the rom in hex and add 00 bytes, untill the ROM is exactly 2MB in size. If you add a header to it, that the edited rom is again compatible with zcompress. You thus can change the gfx at any time.

Are you huge fan of Megaman Xtreme 2?   Then check this progress of Remastered version!
