Update By: Equiz

d4s updated his BoF2 blog a couple of weeks ago, stating that betatesting of the German translation had started although there is no set deadline. Patch release should not be far away, and surely the English one isn't as well.

What has been done, according to ds4:
Quote
  • Completely formatted, proof-read and revised dialogue script.
due to my recently improved japanese skills, i was also able to compare the german, english and japanese script side-by-side, correcting some errors and restoring the stuff that got censored out, such as various jokes concerning eichichis tits and the likes. already played through the game once and fixed the remaining textual issues.
  • Enlarged character names. All names have been restored to match the japanese original.
  • Variable width font for the enemy names. Again, translated enemy names now match these of the japanese version. Some names have kept their japanese reading because they would either sound shitty in german or aren't translateable at all.
  • Pseudo 3d-overworld. I always thought that bof2s overworld looked rather bland, so i went ahead and beefed it up a bit. Due to various technical limitations, the effect is of a rather subtile nature, but its an improvement over the original nevertheless. This effect works similar to the 3d-levels of axelay and the overworld of treasure hunter g. Looks best in motion.
  • TONS of bugfixes, literally. over 80 bugs just in the last 2 weeks! most were related to hardcoded stuff that appeared later in the game.
  • Compressed the hell out of everything i added to the game and reorganized the work ram a bit to make room for my decompression buffers. However, i wasn't able to squeeze it all back into 24mbits, so i'll have to live with a 32mbit rom for now.

Yes, I must say, he is indeed impressive. I'd also venture to say he has devoted quite a bit of time to that project. I can't imagine some of those things can be hacked in overnight. I miss having time. Damn American society and it's 'work work work until you die' attitude.

I'm definitely playing the English version when it's out. BoFII predated Xenogears by years.

I'll sign on as a script writer if I have to. I couldn't finish BoFII on GBA because the translation was crap.

I have been waiting for this for nearly two years. What's another month (or two)?

Is there going ot be a version without all the extras? I liked the way the game looked before. I tihnk it's one of the finest looking games on the SNES. I don't see a reason to mess with it.

You've got to be kidding me, I thought it was pretty bad. Wasn't the worst but still bad. I doubt he will have a regular version after all that work he put in.

Don't argue with VWF.

Damn, can't wait for this. And having it look awesome is a sweet added treat next to not having a hideous script that looks like it was done by Babelfish.

I'll be playing this one on my SNES when it's done, that's for sure.

I'm also really looking forward to this one!  I can't wait to see the "beefing-up" that he has done to the overworld.  ;D

Ahh!!  I think I get the idea.  Although he mentions that it really needs to be seen in motion, I think that I understand the work that he has done.  I'm really looking forward to reaplying this game!  It's got a nice soundtrack  ;)

Speaking of the soundtrack... How about updating the instrument samples in the hack? That would totally boost d4s coolness factor. That probably wouldn't be all that hard based on some recent SPC700/DSP work I've done.

This is almost turning into a Breath of Fire 2 remake rather than a translation or hack.

Man, i've been following this since day 1. At most I think I can wait another 6 months, then, im buying a ticket to Germany, and finishing this for him.

He left my mind intact. I can dream, I can wonder, I can lament. Simply, he has taken his revenge. I have no mouth. And I must scream.
