Translations: Etrian Odyssey Retold
« on: April 01, 2014, 10:44:41 am »

Update By: Pokeytax

After an enormous amount of quiet work, a definitive retranslation of “Etrian Odyssey” for Nintendo DS has been released - Etrian Odyssey Retold: Yggdrasil no Labyrinth. This version corrects many liberties taken with both the original 2007 translation and the 2013 remake and more faithfully renders segments that were eloquently, but loosely, translated in those releases. Additionally, an enhanced difficulty setting has been enabled to provide a truly old-school experience.

The patch is available at cavespeak.org.

"An enhanced difficulty setting has been enabled".
Does that mean this is a hardmode hack? Or that the option is available?

I haven't tried it but, consider the day, I have to wonder if it lives up its URL? :D

Why isn't there a project page for this game?

Why isn't there a project page for this game?

Because this isn't the game.

The April Fools joke is that it's not Etrian Odyssey that was translated. Despite that there is a cool translation underneath the joke.

Spoiler:
It's 7th Dragon for DS

Thanks, guys. I'm grateful to the fan translation community for setting such a high bar and pushing me to do my best. And, please send me any bug reports you have. What's really lacking on this patch is the QA, and while I did my best, there's always something you miss.

Well, I have no idea what this game is, but I'm busy with Dragon Quest. And from the fact that I start the game in a quest place, I'm gonna guess this is some sort of Quest based game.

Well, it's an Etrian Odyessy spiritual successor. The joke wasn't really that far off the mark.

Would you believe I got confused halfway through and spent extra time looking for a <legitimate copy> of Sekaiju no Meikyuu?

Definitely one of the better things I've seen on April 1st. Kudos.

Going to close this because the joke has been revealed and a real thread started, making this one unneeded.
