As many people figured out, yesterday's release of an Etrian Odyssey retranslation was an April Fool's Day joke. However, there was a kernel of truth to the gag - a complete translation of 7th Dragon for Nintendo DS has been finished, and is available for download. It's a terrific RPG well worth a playthrough.

So far, but I couldn't test it and AFAIK no one has beaten it yet. Both NO$GBA and DeSmuME seem fine so I have my fingers crossed.

Is it a dungeon crawler or rather a full RPG? Because it looks quite gorgeous, but in some reviews they tag it as a dungeon crawler and I don't like that genere so much. I prefer the RPGS where the plot is the most important part of it instead of all that dungeon exploring and level building.

I used to think that way, but RPG plots are starting to all seem a little samey to me these days. More recently I go in for interesting gameplay mechanics or, ideally, a grand sense of adventure that you don't get from most go-here-do-this RPG plot structures.

This release was a nice surprise and I've been having fun with the game so far. I'm actually really enjoying the bits of humor sprinkled throughout the game, it feels like the NPCs from the Dragon Quest series were dropped into an Etrian Odyssey title. Thank you so much for your hard work!

I'm still trying to figure out how those special name codes work. I've only gotten Hanoi so far.
