Game & Watch - CPUs

Well, some of you might know, that nintendo's first handhelds were "Game & Watch"-consoles (some of them remind me on the nds). It would be nice to disassemble that stuff. Does someone know which cpus were used? Does someone have an opcodelist?

The Game & Watch is more akin to a light switchboard than to a computer.

I was thinking about these at one time...I wonder if it is actually possible to wipe out all that data, and make a new mechanism for a new G&W game  :o

I actually own Game and Watch Zelda in my game console collection. Still a fun mini game to play when you're bored.

Hello, maybe I can help. I'm the owner of MADrigal's Simulators.

The problem is that the CPU used in Nintendo G&W is still unknown. Some people suspect it's a TI TMS1000 or a Sharp MC-501.

They are normal 4-bit MCU's with opcodes, RAM and ROM.

The problem is that the ROM is embedded in the MCU, so you should "decap" them and "extract" the data visually, in a similar manner to what the MAME team does to decode rare MCU's (like Bubble Bobble, for example).

It's feasible but expensive.

To date, no one has ever emulated any of those MCU's.

Yes, the next version of MAME/MESS will also have a Nintendo Game & Watch emulator! ;) Apparently the MCU is a Sharp SM-510.

Game&Watch has russian clone : Elektronika.
Most popular game in USSR 1980s was "Wolf&Hare"  ( Nintendo EG-26 Egg clone)

I have information about the chip used in Game&Watch. Opcodes, electrical connections, and even an electrical read of ROM. There's no protection at all in this MCU. I've already read some firmwares (Egg, Chef, Fire). And made emulator of G&W. If you have any questions about G&W - You may ask it there.
