Extract images/animations from a saturn game
« on: February 26, 2014, 03:01:07 am »
Hello everyone !

There is a game that makes a huge part in my childhood : Shining the Holy Ark.
Actually, I want to recode it on unity, with the same story, the same images and the same animations but with far more options and an extend story !

But I need to extract images and animations of this game that are in files I cannot open.

Here is the list of the type of files wich are contained in the CD :
- BIN (binaries of the game, not interesting)
- CPK
- CPX
- FNT
- SPR
- SEQ
- CHR (probably containing the information on the character / monsters)
- MDX (music)
- TON (music)
- DRV (makes musics and sounds work in the game)

So... do someone know how can I do that ? Or if you don't, do you have an idea ?

Thanks in advance :)

PS: and sorry, I've always been a bad student in english classroom ^^

Presuming the formats are standardized, you should be able to build extraction tools using the information here:
http://koti.kapsi.fi/~antime/sega/docs.html
That details hardware, the official libraries, Psy-Q libraries, and other random assorted system data.  There might be something prebuilt someplace, but it isn't obvious.

There's several different audio rippers that have been built, but they tend to be specific to groups of related games.

All Shining games use compression. I remember the "m*.mdx" files: scrpt files with your own font.
