Just decrypt the eboot.bin

How do you decrypt the eboot.bin?

i did it last week and you just need to edit the boot.bin and save over the boot.bin and eboot.bin with the resulting file

How do you decrypt the eboot.bin?

You can decrypt the eboot.bin on a psp using prxdecrypter27( and possibly iso_tool never used it though) or you can decrypt it using PPSSPP or you can do what Isao Kronos said and use the BOOT.BIN ( in newer games this file is NULL'd) and rename it to EBOOT.BIN and replace it in the iso or just use the xdelta patch and apply it directly to the Tales of Eternia clean iso.

Since the CWCheat was never posted I give it a try. But I don't have the game so I don't know the games signature (_S)

Add this to the cheat.db of CWCheat or to your PPSSPP cheat ini file.

Code: [Select]
_S ???-????
_G Tales of Eternia
_C1 Battery gauge off
_L 0x2015D300 0xFFFF0224

This will overwrite the 32 bit value at address 0x0015D300 in RAM with 0xFFFF0224. Could someone test if this will do?

Will freeze the game, but by changing 1 number it works.

_G Tales of Eternia [EU]
_C1 Battery gauge off
_L 0x1015D300 0xFFFF0224

Blimp, does this mean you've figured how how to remove the annoying battery gauge from Tales of Eternia PSP? I've been hoping this would happen for so long now. Please pm me.

On previous page 5 monthes ago Belmondo gave you an xdelta patch, actually, which you could apply to iso directly without any problem...

The problem is, that patch is XDelta format. I use a mac, and I have no means of patching an XDelta file. I've tried MultiPatch for OSX, but it results in an invalid input error.

ToE on PSP is 666.9 MB as an uncompressed .iso. Could you or someone else kindly patch it in windows and pm me a dropbox or mediafire link? Thanks.

Don't think the problem is MultiPatch+XDelta because I couldn't get the patch to work with my iso ( crc: 7099C9D5 ) on windows...

So it doesn't work period then. Could someone please make a working version? I don't know anything about PSP hacking, but based on the information in this thread, simply hiding the battery gauge from normal gameplay shouldn't be too complicated.

So, here is what you have to do

1. Get UMDGen 4.00 (or any other ISO manager, there is plenty, for Mac there is also UMDGen, just never tried it: https://www.dropbox.com/s/wvtnohsncymaff3/UMDGenMacVers.zip), open your ISO file
2. Download and unzip this 2 files: http://www.mediafire.com/download/zppim9uvpyczclv/ebts.zip
3. Navigate to PSP_GAME/SYSDIR in UMDGen and press right button, there is "Add" option
4. Add and replace these BOOT.BIN and EBOOT.BIN using replacement from my archive
5. Save new ISO

It should work now without gauge. I do not have a good internet channel here, so cannot upload an ISO, hope someone else could do it for you, if there would be any problems with my instructions...

Holy moley that was a lot of downloading, but following your instructions, it works!

But surely there's gotta be a simpler way of doing this? When I make a video review of the PSP version of Tales of Eternia, fans will no doubt ask me how to play without the damn battery gauge always visible. Couldn't there just be a .ips patch for the .iso or something?

What's interesting is by removing the always on battery gauge, the filesize of the iso shrinks from 666.9 MB to 638.4 MB. That's a 28.5 MB difference. Can the battery gauge info really account for all the extra size?

You could probably make a xdelta or bps patch by comparing the unhacked and hacked ISOs.
You can't use IPS unless the change is within the first 16MB (before address 0xFFFFFF).

Was there just one version of Tales of Eternia? The ISO I got is labeled "German" but it seems to play in English just fine and the CRC matches Blimp's. (except the intro which is in some strange, perhaps even fake? language)
Though I got the same result when I played my real UMD on my PSP.
I've never had a reason to check but does PSP have a language setting and perhaps it's using that?

Was at least 2 versions (Japan and EU). Version German you have I think is just usual EU version, seems just was dumped by some german team.

You before told that xdelta do not work on your system. So seems easiest way for you would be to upload ISO with removed battery gauge somewhere... IPS would not work for reasons already told.

A whole ISO upload for a 4 byte change? Now that's overkill.

Eboot is crypted, so have to replace Eboot with decrypted eboot with patch => means ISO recreate... xdelta could help, but topicstarter unable to work with it for some reason...

Since Blimp already found a working cheat why not use it? Just install cwcheat and add the cheat to the cheat.db. (https://gbatemp.net/threads/psp-cheat-plugin-setup.333704/ or google cwcheat tutorial)

Will freeze the game, but by changing 1 number it works.

Code: [Select]
_S ULES-00176
_G Tales of Eternia [EU]
_C1 Battery gauge off
_L 0x1015D300 0xFFFF0224

PS. I was wondering why the cheatcode i posted had to be altered to only change a 2 byte value instead of 4 byte. Can someone explain this to me?

Neither of the cheats works. Only tested it in PPSSPP:
Code: [Select]
_S ULES-00176
_G Tales of Eternia [EU]
_C1 Battery gauge off
_L 0x2015D300 0x2402FFFF
