It should be noted that the original owner of this early copy of the game damaged the gamedata when it was improperly being dumped. Or something like that. This poster acquired the damaged game after-the-fact, and has now released, from my understanding, an unmodified-but-damaged copy of the game, and then another copy of the game where assets from the final release have been transplanted to get the early copy working.

It's hard to tell whether the damaged prototype had bugs or problems because of the damage, or because it is an early copy of the game.

If the readme file of the patch is to be trusted, the game can run without imported assets, as long as 4 or 5 corrupt bytes have been fixed (as well as the internal header). I think he just imported the enemy encounter data because he wanted to see the monster sprites or something like that. There's a post about this in the thread on Assembler or another forum (not sure where.)

It seems so. Snes9x says that the fixed ROM has the same CRC32 as the damaged ROM with bugfix patch applied.

If that's the case, then that's some awesome news I remember when the damage was first revealed, it was a bit of a shocker to many people interested in early and prototype videogames.
