Update By: KingMike

KingMike has released an updated translation patch for Magna Braban for the SNES.
While the old 06/06/06 06:06 patch has some sentimental value, this new version should be compatible with accurate emulators.
This translation might've kept Gideon's original DTE routine, but otherwise all other translation coding has been redone. This code is a comparatively cleaner hack, though the text banks were recopied from the original patch, so the text is pretty much unchanged.
While a full playthrough of this patch hasn't been done, it has been tested that all code and menu modifications are working.
This version translates a hidden feature found that can display enemy names in battle, whereas they weren't translated in the original patch. Not all names have been checked yet, but as that is more of an "omake" feature (AFAIK it can only be seen with a PAR code), it was decided it shouldn't hold up a patch released.

Additionally, KingMike has released a new patch that inserts the credits into the ending of Time Zone for the NES.
If one hasn't played it, it's a cartoony sidescroller that kind of resembles Panic Restaurant. Might have even been by the same people.
Back when the first patch was released in 2001 it was beyond his ability to insert the credits, then forgotten for over a decade.
The rest of the script is unchanged.

Tried them both real quick, looking good overall.

My Magna Braban file was ~1,572 KB, whereas the readme states it should be ~1,536 KB, and I got an incorrect checksum, but the game still seemed to run fine.

The readme seems incomplete?  :o

A few minor emulation issues. In ZSNES, the mode 7 graphics are slightly bugged up. In SNES9x

And that's it.
Otherwise quite a great translation!

I was wondering the same. I would have gladly done some hardware testing if asked as I had already debugged some issues in the previous patch.

It also looks like the readme on the entry page is still the 1.0 readme.

Whatever the status on that is, it should be stated that fixing both these translations was a cool thing do to do.

Most may have been content with a project that works in any capacity.

On that note, I still want to go back and revisit a few of my old ones. Mostly Chaos World.

Aw, now you're just copying King Mike! :P

That'd be interesting. You make Chaos World sound like a real hidden gem.

Still my favorite NES RPG to this day.

I've got plans to go back and not exactly redo, but make some significant improvements to an older translation of mine.

The quest for perfection is an admirable goal in my opinion even if it can be time consuming to make the effort.

Btw, when are you gonna finish Stargazers? (Since this is about updating older patches...)

The perfect is the enemy of the good. But Chaos World doesn't even really approach "good" :( Some serious trimming had to be done to fit its script back into the rom without any ASM hacking.

I recall there was a number of battle engine strings that were never translated.
I can't find a copy of the script of untranslated strings at the moment.
