I'm Slime Bard. Nice to meet you all!

I become interested in romhacking after stumbling through the SNES version of Tokimeki Memorial and Sakura Taisen 3, almost eight years ago. I couldn't and can't find a translation for TokiMeki (it seems to murder groups), but in the process of searching I discovered that people made it a hobby of of tinkering with game code. I came across the Famicom Tantei Club 2 remake for the SNES, and I was hooked on that game. I was grateful that certain gamers felt like translating the game and were cool enough to release it for everyone else to enjoy. Ever since then, I wanted to try it for myself, but, outside of completing a few tutorials, I never really tried to help with a project. I didn't have the patience and couldn't read a lick of Japanese.

Now I'm older and I have more patience, in addition to having a much better understanding of the Japanese language. I've mostly been translating manga for others and have been working through light novels on my own time. I still want to help with releasing a translated game here, which is mostly why I joined this community. I would like to translate, but there seem to be a wealth of them nowadays, so I'm willing to help in other ways as well. Hopefully, I'll be able to add something positive to the community.

As far as gaming goes, I love games with a strong, engaging story and interesting characters; I end up playing RPGs and action/adventure games, as a result. After years of resistance, I've gotten into the DQ series, despite my distaste for its battle system. I'm also somewhat of a collector, especially when it comes to Sega. Next on my list of purchases is a Sega CD and Snather, one of my favorite games.

I'm also a big fan of music, and am a sorta newbie to Jazz.

Take care.

Hello everyone. I'm not sure where to start, so I guess I'll focus on the games I like. I collect old games, mostly 16-bit era stuff but I also love the classic Neo Geo fighting games, and I still play PS1. I'm that geek who buys japanese versions of games on ebay just to have something with cool packaging on my desk. I guess that's why I'm also a fan of translations.

I love this site and regularly check for new translations and other hacks (I really love quirky stuff like the Castlevania HOD patch that has 8-bit Simon Belmont and Megaman as playable characters), and patches for older games that breathe new life into classic games and add replay value. I don't know why I put it off, but I finally joined today.

I know some programming theory, but not enough to do anything effective with it yet. I'm open to help testing or reviewing patches/hacks if there is a need to do so.

Anyway, I'm a great fan of the site and want to thank everyone who's contributed to the archive for their great work.

Hey guys and girls. My real name's Jared. I've been playing games since 1990, although I have played earlier games. My first game was the first commander keen... unfortunately I missed the 8 bit era, but I was born 5 months before the Famicon came out in Japan.
My first real system for playing games was a 386 DOS computer, and I was big into Epic Megagames, ID Software, and Apogee (3D Realms) games - I didn't pay attention to the sega vs nintendo thing, for me, it was epic vs apogee. I remember one christmas wanting a NES, but my mom seems to have been confused, and she got me a Gameboy.... I was disappointed by this at first, but she got me Atomic Punk, and of course it had Tetris and Super Mario Land, and I was so addicted to it. Then I got a SNES in 1994 when Donkey Kong Country hit the scene, and the rest, they say, is history.
These days I play almost anything if it's interesting to me. I'm not a fanboy for any particular console, and I have a Gamecube, and a PS2, with money set aside for a PSP-3000 and a DSi. I want to get a Wii and a 360.. PS3 might have to wait - I don't really know any games I really want for it besides LittleBigPlanet, but I really do want to play Street Fighter II HD and Megaman 9.
I'm not too familiar with anything before NES/Gameboy, for the simple fact I've never had a Atari or a Intellivision or anything like that, and the games that I'm interested in for these systems are on MAME. It's great to have a site that points out all the various translations available for all these great games.

Those were the days. PC gaming was never the same after those days. Thank goodness for DOSBox! Welcome to the Board.

Hey, Hx Dragoon Here!

Been playing games when I was 7, My very first gaming console was a Sega Genesis that my uncle bought for me, the first game that I got was Sonic The Hedgehog and then my dad started to buy me more, my fave game was Phantasy Star IV, and I never got a chance to get an NES or an SNES sadly....
I collect games for my Genesis and I'm planning to pre-order the newest RPG that was about to be released on Spring this year.

I discovered the wonders of the internet and my computer on 2003, began surfing also playing some games on my comp like Counter Strike, Starcraft, Diablo, FF VII and stuff like that, for many years of my life and to be honest with you guys, I never got a chance to buy newer or old gaming consoles (except my Genesis) so my knowledge of the gaming world is limited but not that very much limited....

But thankfully my cousin and my other relatives who was lucky to have such consoles merely let me borrow their stuff to me, still I'm their resource for games and info about their stuff cause I got the brains. :)

The thing is why I'm here cause I got interested on ROMHacking Actually, BTW Love the hacks and translations.

I also Program Ruby if anyone cares, I got learning Ruby easy as pancakes! But I still got to learn more about it actually, I'm just on the Begginer Level.

Oh yeah, thanks to emulation I got the chance to exprience playing games and lots of coolnes that the NES, SNES, PSX, GB, GBC, GBA, NDS consoles etc. has to offer. My favorite games were Chrono Trigger, Pokemon, Zelda games etc.

So hopefully I learn more here and about ROMHacking get more info and understand what needs to be understood and I also hope that we get along just fine.

:)

Sorry if you got all confused because of my Intro cause I don't know where to start or what to say I'm just gald to be here at RHDN!

Howdy,

I'm tummai.  I'm 28 and I think we got our first NES when I was 6.  And there was the ATARI 7800 before that and the ATARI 2600 before that.  So I guess I go back to ET and Keystone Kapers as far as playing.  I played alot of stuff on the Genesis and SNES too, but around the time the PS1 came out, I kinda stopped playing games until very recently (last October?) when I picked up Dragon Quest 5 for the DS.  It brought me back into game-mode.

Never hacked a thing in my life before last Sunday when I decided to give it a try.  I'm trying to trace through The Guardian Legend for the NES to see how it works.  My ultimate goal is to write my own homebrew NES game and put it on a cart, which isn't directly related to ROM-hacking, but I also have an interest in being part of one of these projects translating Japanese games in English.   Oh, I forgot to mention I live in Japan now and translate stuff as a hobby (mostly Dragon Quest-related stuff).  I'm not a pro, but I hope to be one someday (that's why I do it as a hobby).  I'm getting better everyday (I hope).

That's my intro.  Looking forward to becoming a regular here.  Adios.

Hi everyone!

I'm Kasürva (you can type Kasuerva if you can't get the ü or are too lazy to type it, etc.). I started romhacking when I was 14 or so but haven't hacked any roms in a long time. I'm now 21 and would like to hack some of the Mario games. Also, someday I want to use C or C++ to program my own Mario game.

I've been a Mario fan since I was like 3 years old, and wanted to explore all the levels of Super Mario Bros. for NES. I would imagine, dream about, and draw my own levels for many years, wishing there was some way to make my own levels for real. I got into NES emulation around 2001 when I found out that TMK (a Mario website) had level editors, so I tried to make some of my own levels. I was into romhacking for a while, but eventually lost interest and got into other things, but now I would like to romhack again.

Greetings.  I go by Walker.  I've been into emulation since somewhere around 97ish (back when RPGe was THE trans group).  Every so often I'd download a few tools and poke around in different roms to see what I could do/find.  Recently I got the bug again, this time a bit more strongly.  Anyways, I probably won't be posting often, but as I'm lurking the boards to see if questions I have are already posted/answered, I thought it might be nice to introduce myself....you know, in case I DO have a newbieish question that I just can't find an answer to.

note:  I tend to hunt down answers and skewer em with a pointy stick.  If I post a question, it's because I really could not find an answer anywheres.

Hey, I'm the new guy here. The reason why I joined is because I want to see what kind of ROM Hacks are there and if I can find something useful for SMK hacking.

Also, a question. If I wanted to post a fan-fiction here, where would I post it?

~Thanks for the Spell Check feature! Even though I have good spelling, my fingers move too fast~

You're welcome to make a thread if you want feedback or want to share, but please don't use our forum to advertise your fan-fics. That's my only request. Also, if you have more than one fan-fic, post links to them in the same thread.

Sup Romhacking.net, iPanda here.

My first contact with romhack was around the late nineties. What really got me into it ( as with most of the people here ) was the possibility to play those older games which never saw a western release.I remember visiting 'The Whirlpool' back then searching for NES translations and giggling at the unusual 'reviews' by Spinner 8.

Anyway, I've never been active in the community and, while I do have the habit of checking the frontpage news often, it's not until recently that I came across this board.

So, Hi!

Hi there

I've been playing Nintendo since 1986 when my grandparents bought one for my brothers and I. It was just the basic set with 2 controllers and Super Mario Bros. We never had either the zapper or ROB but I don't really think that we missed out on much. My brothers moved on to other systems and other games and while I've played a bit of SNES, the NES is still where my heart is.

In the last few years I got married to a wife whose parents never let her play video games, so I decided that the time was ripe for me to pry my NES out of mothballs and I've begun a quest to beat every game for the NES that I've ever wanted to play, so while I still have quite a few of the games that I had originally for the NES I have also bought a huge collection that now numbers over 90 games and I am beating them one-by-one. My wife's claim-to-fame is beating both quests of Legend of Zelda, a fact that she is quite proud of even though she shows little interest in other games. She likes playing Super Mario Bros but dies fairly early on.

I've recently discovered the concept of ROM hacking. I've known what ROM's and emulators are for years but I've never bothered to use one because I prefer the play control on the original system. However, now with the idea of hacking and being able to create new games, using the old ones as a base I have become somewhat excited by the concept. My wife has already asked me to create a Super Mario Bros Simple which would be a version of the game that is made easier so that she can beat it. However, I have a lot of other ideas on ways to "improve" old games. The only problem now is learning how to hack in the first place. I can't wait to get started...
