I thank you humbly and whole heartedly for your efforts in translating the first in the glorious BQ series.

The PC engine sequel is damn near impossible, u wanna talk about grinding OOF! that one is no joke.

Although, I'm not sure about your comment?  The "God" player name is what you should use to avoid the 'useless grind leveling'.
I tried it but I was stuck at the 1st boss, unable to damage him. Got pissed off.
Also playing this bad game even for only 1 hour is a loss of time.

And, I'm sure, that now that you've seen them, you feel a bit let down as they aren't that great.
It's ok, they're better than the gameplay of this terrible game. I had not such high expectations anyways ^^

Thanks V.  It's not that I'm against doing the sequel; I'm just unskilled in the PCEngine right now.

As long as your levels are high enough, he's a joke.  Just run around the screen touching his head.
If you level is not high enough, he's impossible as you can't use healing items during the battle.
It's the same for all the bosses.

I certainly won't argue with you on how good the action is on the game.  It's rather pitiful.  The story isn't quite as bad.  The game is not for everyone, but I enjoyed it and I played it w/o cheating.

i'm an old school gamer, got my start when the original pong made its debut, and i'm really enjoying this game. it isn't a great game, the action is rather boring (just walk into things), but its simple, its unique, its short, and it has a funny story. i've caught myself laughing out loud on more than a few occasions while playing this game. even bad games can make me smile, and sometimes that hits the spot perfectly.

You probably forgot to add the 16-byte FDS header.

yes, and information on how to use it is included in the readme.

Quote
2) (optional)
If you have a FDS file without a header, and don't know how to add the
header with a hex editor, no worries.  You can use the included
ROM Expander Pro.txt file with any ROM expander to give the game a header.
If your FDS file already has a header, there is no reason to use the
ROM Expander Pro file as no FDS files we expanded on the disks, only new
   files added.

For PC users, use ROM Expander Pro.exe, which you can get from the
DvD Translations website.  It's pretty self-explanatory.

Just make sure your ROM file, called
   "BodyConQuest I - Abakareshi Musume Tachi.fds"
   "ROM Expander Pro.txt", and
"ROM Expander Pro.exe" are all in the same directory and then run
"ROM Expander Pro.exe", choosing "Expand and Add/Replace Header".

ROM Expander Pro will not modify your original ROM file.  It will instead
make a copy of the file and modify it calling it
   "BodyConQuest I - Girls Exposed.fds".

Ports of "ROM Expander Pro" now also exist for non-PC operating systems.

The ROM Expander Pro.txt does NOT contain an MD5 checksum as every game
with a different save file will have a different checksum.

Disappointed adding an FDS header is necessary, as FDS headers themselves are useless (the only real information it contains is the number of disk sides, which could already been inferred from the .fds file size.)

Finally got around to playing this. It far surpassed my expectations. I dont know why its receiving so much hate on here, its better than Hydlide and Ys 1 (for most systems).

If you hate this you hate Ys.

Anyways fun game, great translation and I like the resolution. I estimate its a 1989-1990 release. Also the grinding is not bad at all so far. You level up rather quickly.

**EDIT

uh oh, trouble in paradise. After the first boss, the next two towns are broken. Nobody talks to you and you are screwed, not even the shops respond to you to sell you new weapons n stuff. PLZ FIX I WUZ HAVIN FUNN

maybe its NESTOPIA?

IIRC, Nestopia is really outdated now? I've never had problems with FCEUX or Mednafen and I haven't used them in a long time already (since I barely play games on my computer anymore).

...or what Square711 says... :I

They're not broken, it's all story-related. :P
In the first town you speak of, people are under some kind of curse; in the other one, they've been turned to stone. Skip the towns and go look for a dungeon in the woods and a pyramid in the desert, that's where you're supposed to go.

Been a while since I been in the scene with the recent birth of my daughter, so I hadn't noticed your comment.
KM,
I completely agree with you that FDS headers are useless, for the reasons you listed.  When I decided to do FDS games, I wanted to standardize on releasing them all with or without headers, but just be consistant.  I decided to go with headers simply because the flashcart I have that plays FDS games, the PowerPak, requires them.  Otherwise, I would have gone without headers.
Anyway, keep up the good work translating FDS games so I can play them!
