The Shadowgate-sounding track (#3 in the preview? The majority of it, anyway) is pretty good! But there are some weird choices in the first two tracks, like those two long-lasting high-pitched notes, and the kind-of-weird bass starting at 0:27. Everything prior to 0:38 just seems like it's of substantially lower quality than the rest of it, which is comparatively complex and interesting.

Can’t handle a little dissonance, eh?

Luckily with Youtube, we no longer have to if it adds nothing.  Skip that part, get to the good stuff.  Nobody listens to the first 1:40 of the music video Party Rock by LMFAO either.

You’re not exactly proving yourself any less the philistine here.

Maybe dissonance doesn't lend itself well to 8 bit music? I almost turned it off at the beginning.  It sounded like some kid just found out what dissonance was and it was their new favorite play thing.  The rest of it was pretty great though.

Definitely worth bearing with if you can skip the intro, as it gets much better from 0:38 onwards.
A log of some kind.

This, I think. Dissonance has its place, but it doesn't exactly work to best effect in 8-bit, and it doesn't create the best first impression, either. Glad I stuck with it though, as the rest really is neat.

Oh please.  If it's on Youtube, it's probably not earth-shattering.

And if you post something, it’s probably condescending.

If Merzbow is not your thing, fine. Don’t say it “adds nothing”. That’s just mean.

Will respond with something a friend told me after criticism of my work: "Really, if you're trying to improve something, that's more respect for the work than coddling its deficiencies."

I can sympathize with that position, to a point.
But as Mal said in Serenity: "They'll swing back to the belief that they can make people... better. And I do not hold to that."

The point being that "better" and "improve" can be quite subjective, particularly in the context of other people's stuff since you can't always guess at their intent. You might not like a particular part of a particular song, but there's probably A Point for it being there, and it's quite possible that you not liking it may correspond with you not understanding The Point behind it's presence.

Not discounting the possibility that a given thing might just be stupid.
Which, of course, is a objective measure.

I've got plenty of leftover loops from this project if anybody needs music for their hack. That would be prretyy much the bomb. No DPCM or externals.
