“A and B at the same time” can mean “hold A and press B, hold B and press A, press them both, doesn’t matter”, but most of the times you see 同時押し that won’t work (depends on the programming; actually, you usually have a small number of frames of leeway, but from a human perspective, this is fast enough that you really gotta hit them on the same downstroke). Hence, “simultaneously”, “at once”, or “together” is a better choice because in this sort of “how-to” writing, dispelling ambiguity takes precedence over euphony (on the contrary, “same time” is much prettier).

Getting back to this again...

I'm looking again at the level titles.

We had
Quote
樹木騒擾
地気鳴動
奔流暄轟
火焔盛衰
砂塵空漠
天涯喧轟
I'd like to go with a 16x16 font, looking at the code, I should be able to manage 14x2 characters.

I'm thinking:

1. Disturbance
in the forest

2. The Soil Began
To Tremble
(a cave level. First you run past falling boulders, then ride a wooden elevator)

3. The Currents
Vibrate Wildly
(a fight across a broken bridge over a rive at sunset)

4. The Flames
Rise Quickly
(a level where you fight across the ruins of a burned city, then enter a temple still on fire)

5. The Sand
Storms Blow
(a sand ruins level)

6. The Worlds
Converge
(I guess the idea is that some heavenly force is ready to enact some divine power to wipe the world of all life to start over.)

Something that gets the idea, but maybe a sounds a bit more... catastrophic?

I think it’s really calling out for cheesy 90s level titles, like

1. Forest Fray
2. Gaia Grumble
3. Turbulent Torrent
4. Fluctuating Flames
5. Sweeping Sandstorm

the last one looks like 天涯友束, even though 友束 ain’t no word i ever hoid

Jisho doesn't get it either and Google is just weird. But, by the kanji details, 天涯喧轟 could be "Thundering Roar of the Heavens" or "Thundering Roar at the Horizon" or something like that? Maybe, to keep with BRP's theme "Thundering Heavens". But I'm like not even elementary level when it comes to Japanese, so take that as you will. 天涯友束 is weird, though; that would be like... "Heaven Friendly Control" or something? So weird. Jisho doesn't like either version (but 天涯 is most definitely a word- "horizon" or something similar). I tried putting them in a Chinese dictionary, but I got nothing; not that I would've known if it was right or wrong since I know zero Chinese.

Going with BRP's suggestions, Heaven's Roar would probably fit nicely.

天涯 has two meanings:
1) the ends of the sky; a place [land] very far away (from home).
2) all over the world; around [throughout / all] the world

The sixth one is not 喧轟.

You're right. But there's a discrepancy with the kanji there and 友... But if I'm bad at Japanese in general, I'm far worse with kanji. If I were home, I'd try searching for it using radicals, but I'm at work...

Radical searches will not help.

I never actually figured out what that one was. Even a Chinese dictionary didn’t show me anything convincingly close. 収 was a candidate from the usual suspects, but it’s only on the assumption that it’s written an unusual way, for which I find no attestation. Same goes for 友 except again, no idea what that would mean whereas 収束 is definitely a word.

But it doesn't look like 収 either. Ugh. What a weird kanji... Is there any context in the game? Maybe it's one of those "made up" kanji?

友束 is also a (first) name, if that helps. It's read "tomotsuka". It's a girls name.

I don't know if that helps as much.
The final boss is named "Toutetsu" in the music/sound test in the Options menu (which is in English originally), translated as "Tao Tie" in the dialogue.

Spoiler:
The final stage is a run up a thundering mountain, where you will have a boss rush of the previous bosses, followed by this thing.

Which morphs into a randomly-selected player character after each hit.

I don't know, would it be too much of a liberty to call stage 4 "Incan Inferno"? It starts on the outside of a town with a volcanic background, before moving to a temple with ancient architecture on fire.
I decided in stage 5 to go with Swirling Sands as a title. It is a desert kingdom, but there is no actual sandstorm in the stage.

Swirling Sands is okay, especially where brevity might be a desirable trait....

I think making a name involving a specific civilization invites too many people to go “but that’s not ___ style”.
