Ghost Sweeper Mikami
« on: September 08, 2011, 05:28:31 pm »
Deciding to work on this again.
Had some trouble getting a VWF working. I guess it's better if I just do fixed-width now.
Text works, but it seems untranslated text will crash the game. Oh well, that will be fixed in time. :)

A couple lines of dialogue before the first boss.

I think I've found a place in the script with the second line translated. "I, Reiko Mikami, will send you to heaven!"
Don't see the first line, though.

The lines are:

"You can ride the train if you like,
but it looks like you've gone a little too far."

"I, Reiko Mikami the Ghost Sweeper,
am going to put your soul to rest!"

Previous translated just as "A hot-spring hotel".
Wondering if there's some information missing.
Is it more like "A hot-spring hotel in the southern swamp on the North Side?" (well, "prefecture", but that's not a word commonly used in English)

REPORT 2
House is Haunted?

The level name. Maybe change it to "A Haunted House?" to sound more natural?

Luckily, I was able to split the two lines in the screenshots in my first post into 3 text boxes.
But, not so lucky on the intro to level 2. Tried to split one string into two boxes. I suppose it's not two bad if most boxes are formatted for 3 lines and all of a sudden, I have one with 4 lines (moving the text up to the border).
Should I try to go back and re-format lines so they're roughly centered vertically?

1. N Prefecture S***zawa Hot Spring Hotel/Spa Hotel

The part before "Hot Spring" looks like an obfuscated place name to me, where letters are used as initials. This often happens so that real names can be used without having to refer directly to them or so that completely made-up names can be dropped in. You could just make something up.

2. This is a literal translation of a terrible Japanese pun (that reads "Youkan wa youkan?").  Go wild on this: House of Horrors!, Monstrous Manor, etc.

What's going in the level is the first part is in a swamp, then the second part looks like we're jumping across rocks to climb a waterfall to actually reach the house on top of the cliff, inside is just the boss fight (against a giant possessed doll).

Attempting to google the term 嵯峨沢温泉 comes up. I'd guess the real name is Sagazawa Hot Spring. So, I should just come up with some fake name?

When you're obfuscating a name for a real place like this, it's usually something that's extremely well known or easy to identify from the context. I don't think the place you mentioned (Sagasawa) is that famous, and the one that I could google was in Shizuoka. (I admit that I'm not too familiar with onsen.)

I'd suggest just going for something like N*** Prefecture S***sawa Spa Hotel, maybe creatively blurring out the obfuscated parts. Dunno.

Possibly Suginosawa Onsen (Niigata Prefecture) or Serigasawa Onsen in (Nagano Prefecture), though Wikipedia isn’t always exhaustive in listing these things. The possibility that these are made up still stands.

Got a few lines I think were missed from filler's translation.

Quit complaining.
I'd guess something like "Let's just go on to the next one..."

A few lines missed from stage 5's intro.
Ugh. Have to disable the BG because ZSNES has flaws emulating the cutscenes (no window shading, making the text harder to read).

What's with the broom, Ms. Mikami?

It's a magic broom, right?

I'm not riding that, am I?

Get real.
The rental fee is more than you could afford in a hundred years.

(missing line)

So, you're taking to the sky, next?

Yeah, take care of things while I'm gone.

(missing line)

Here's a second take on a few of these:

すんだ事をぐだぐだ言わない。
Stop beating that dead horse. It's in the past now.

All right, next up is...

I'm gonna ride it. Naturally.

Have a nice trip!

Stage 4 boss cutscene, anyone?
I know tomatoes are delicious or translate Mother stuff, but in this stage, they're a real pain. :D

(last line seems identical to the last line of the stage 1 scene)

What is it, Okinu-chan? /
What happened, Okinu-chan?

Mikami-san, the ghosts here aren't bad ghosts.
It's just that the >reiki< (aura? dunno...) here is distorted (, which lead to them becoming bad).

That's okay, I know that much.
Well, it's dangerous, so stand back.

Having become distorted may be pitiable,
but it seems you overdid it a little there (with your badness).

The last one is indeed just the same as above.

How's this game's translation coming along? It's one of my personal favorites for the Super Famicom, and I'm very excited to know that I'll finally be able to play it in full english someday. Thanks for all the hard work KingMike!  :)
