Translations: Mother 1 Retranslation for GBA released
« on: April 29, 2011, 08:27:21 pm »
Update By: KingMike

Tomato has released his completed translation for the Mother 1 part of Mother 1+2 for GBA.

Tomato re-translated the script himself. He also hacked the game himself, with a little help from other EB fans like Jeffman.

New to this translation is an "Easy Ring" Tomato programmed into the game, to address complaints that Mother 1 had too much grinding. The player can choose to equip this to double EXP and money received from fights.

The game includes a very basic menu hack of Mother 2, designed for functional playability for players who already know EarthBound's story and plot progression.

Adding the easy ring changes the game's originality a bit.
What does this even mean?

Glad to know starmen.net is capable of more than just stalking Shigesato Itoi and hopelessly trying to bribe Nintendo with fan junk.

What does this even mean?

In the first room of the game is an item called the Easy Ring, when equipped it lessens the encounter rate and doubles the money/exp you receive from battles.

I'm definitely using it. :)

I might do this as well.  My custom cart at the time was outside of the case (because I used too tall a chip socket), and just looked terrible plugged into a Game Genie into the NES.  Went back and fixed it, but of course lost a near-end save game.  I figure this will be the easiest way to get through the game and back to where I was at.  Outside of using the Game Genie, of course.

Great job on the translation!

I honestly didn't feel a need to use any cheating aids for Mother 1 GBA (or Mother 2 GBA for that matter). I just did what I normally do in Earthbound when I first start the game: Train Ness (or in this case, Ninten) to death with no money on him. You will be basically be given a free trip back to where ever you last saved, no loss in money and only experience gained. You can only do this, however, when you're a one man party. Once you get party members, you really don't want to be doing this too often...
