Die Hard TG16
« on: January 04, 2011, 01:44:15 am »
Did you know that Die Hard was released for the Turbografx in Japan, and that it's different from every other version? Neither did I! It's a kind of a weird shooter with a top-down perspective like Commando or Ikari Warriors, and for whatever reason you have to fight through a jungle to even get to the Nakatomi Building.

That's just a quick thing I hacked into the game, I don't actually know what it says. The font's stored in a semi-funky barely-compressed format, but once I figured that out and inserted a new font it was a snap to locate and extract all the text (about 2k in total). Should be a quick little project! If anyone is able to translate, please send me a PM here, or email me at spinner_8@parodius.com.

I've recently caught the hacking bug again, and I've got like four other projects in the works right now (and all on completely different systems... whoops), so you can expect a few more things from me in the future.

Whoa, hey, settle down everybody! Don't get so excited. :)

DarknessSavior has kindly translated the script, so a full release shouldn't take too long.

Someone is translating this thing?
Fantastic news :D!
I played this game out of curiosity a few years back, and it was quite the shocker. Can't wait to see what the hell was being said in it.

Is this a case of a game idea being scrapped late, and then having a license slapped and completed? Such an odd premise, but an interesting curiosity for sure!

When do Die Hard games ever follow the movie plot?

At least I know the arcade & Die Hard Trilogy for Playstation made significant changes. I think. :-\
And I'll leave it at that!

All right, it's done. You can get the patch at my lovely temporary website.

http://suprise.oddigytitanium.com/tvgp/hey.html

I mention this on the site, but it bears repeating: your ROM must not have a header before patching. If it's 524,800 bytes in size, remove the first 512 bytes in a hex editor. Now you'll have more hard drive space, and your ROM will still work on every modern TG16/PCE emulator.

Yay! My second full video game translation is released! :D

It's actually a half decent game. It's somewhat like Metal Gear, but it's a bit difficult. Moreso than MG, anyway. Everyone who likes Die Hard should at least give it a try. Spinner and I did our best to make it feel like John McClane's character when we did the script. :D

Quite so! Hell, I didn't know they even had headers until I first downloaded a No-Intro DAT and it said I had zero ROMs. :D

If anyone wants to know more about the game, my roommate Sardius (who tested the game and made a few script suggestions) did a write-up of it on his website Dream and Friends (the particular article is here). You should just read that whole site, since it's really good, and it's about video games, and you probably like video games, since you're looking at a ROM hacking forum.

Good job on translating this, I didn't even know it existed until I stumbled upon this thread.
