ROM Hacks: Zelda3 Goddess of Wisdom
« on: September 15, 2010, 09:04:30 pm »

Update By: puzzledude

This hack was originally called Shards of Might, but it was
in beta form and couldn't be played normally. But ROM hackers have come together and debugged this hack.

Omega and Seph (authors of Shards of Might) did most of the work with this hack. Francais from France has remodeled it and I, PuzzleDude, have finished and debugged it (some aesthetic bugs that I couldn't fix remain). I've added new gameplay and
extended two dungeons. The overworld and all dungeons were remodeled.

In comparison to Zelda 3: A Link to the Past, this is
a completely new hack. The overworld and all dungeons are new.

Enjoy this debugged hack.

Regarding the empty texts.
This is a point where Zelda should talk. Francais removed the text to change it
later, but he didnt do that. When I remodeled the monologues, the whole text
of the game was destroied, so I was forced to leave some texts empty (around 7 texts,
specially when you are with Zelda).

Regarding the big key.
Go right from the entrance room. You need small key for that.
There you get the lamp and green magic. In the next room light all torches
to gain a chest (you must be quick). Now use bombs to come to the chest.

Regarding the original rom to patch.
You are using the correct rom.
This is the only rom, that the game can be patched to, to work normally.
Legend of Zelda, The - A Link to the Past (E) [!]

To Ernie

The zip file should work fine.
But if you are having problems with unziping,
here's the unziped ips and txt file.

Unziped ips
http://www.fileden.com/files/2009/12/2/2672982/Zelda3%20-%20Goddess%20of%20Wisdom%20v1-7%20ips.ips

Unziped txt
http://www.fileden.com/files/2009/12/2/2672982/Zelda3%20-%20Goddess%20of%20Wisdom%20v1-7%20%28Read%20me%20New%21%29.txt

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some other aesthetic faults from readme file

1. When you exit your home, one more entrance would appear (you cant enter there).
2. No ending sequence (defeat Ganon, read the flor, enter Ganons door and you are done).
3. When passing from area 1 to 2, the sprites in area 1 would sometimes become unaesthetic (rare event).
4. Some texts are empty (who likes to read while playing anyway).
5. In the dark world dont get killed. There are only 4 areas and one enemy up the hill.
You have 95 percent chance to succed.

1. Ignore the things fleshing on the owerworld map!
2. Ignore the text (it is the mix of original and Francais game)!
   You must advance logically.
3. Ignore the dungeon maps.
4. There is no master sword, only sword 1 and 3, there are no pendants, only crystals.
5. There is no gold powerglove (this would lead to bug area), no shield 3, no armor 2 and 3.

I've already tried that with no success  :banghead:

It is no good for me either.  None of the files in the .zip file are accessible.  I was only able to get the patch by downloading it from the post above.

puzzledude, you might want to think about replacing it with a fresh one.

Bring the blue bumps down, and remove all the jars.
Then follow this path and dont make a mistake.

PS It is adviced to use the usb joystick to finish this game.

To replicant

I could do a new zip, but it would be the same as this one. Everyone that have problems with
zip are using better version of zip, or the any spyware is blocking it, because the zip contains
the lunar magic exe file. On my computer the zip file works fine. The same goes for some other players.
If there are problems with unziping, simply use the shortcut, that leads directly to ips.
You are probably using vista or some advance zip program, I'm using XP and old zip 9.0.
PS Try extracting it with win-rar.

im already this far by myself without help. but now im stuck. :( I've beat 5 of the 7 places already, this is currently number 6 ..and those are the items i have. i think i have everything in the game seriously already except for just 1 missing spot there in the screenshot above..

but in THIS level, i have no freaking clue how i'd get past that pit. i seriously dont understand...i see more to the level in the screen exactly below this one in a screenshot you posted on acmlm board. with a pit and some spikes on the bottom of the screen, i dont understand how to get there either if i need to.

i already got the BIG key so im ready to go and finish off this level...but im stuck out of my mind in the screenshot above. :(

In this dungeon the main element in the big chest
were the shoes. (I can see that you have them,
from your item menu). Why not use them here.
Run with the shoes to the right statue and the
bounce will bring you to the left side of the pit.
This will bring you to the boss. Have your bottles filled
with fairies and dont panic. You will have only one
spot from where you can fight.

Next is the final dungeon in the dark world.
Use the help from acmlm screen shots to come past the first room.
Its logical really. Which element did you gain at the end of dungeon 6.
Why not use it at the beginning of dungeon 7. Happy playing.

wow cant believe i seriously never thought to try that, about the ramming into statue thing getting pushed backwards to cross the pit. wow dang. heh worked just fine

well before i can even get to the final place...just 1 last question.

how the heck do i reset those little sparkly stars on the world map to i dont know how to say this exactly but uhh ... delete it so i can actually use the mirror somewhere else ...

it's like im totally stuck  when i first entered that purple warp tile to the dark world...and then im forced to only be able to transfer in that specific area..no matter where i go in the "light world" and trying to use the mirror it just wont let me cause of the stupid sparkling stars are forced within that default area where the purple tile was...

so it's like i dont understand how to delete it off the world map so i'd be allowed to use the mirror somewhere else...like to get to the final dungeon. :(

One of the things in this game is to ignore all items fleshing on the
overworld map, as well as dungeon maps. You really dont need these.

The dark world is small. The same goes for original Shards of Might game as well.

You can enter the dark world only here.
http://www.fileden.com/files/2009/12/2/2672982/help3.bmp

Now you can use the mirror to the light world only in four overworld areas,
since the dark world only has those four areas. Originally there was also
a village in the dark world, but this area didnt respond to editing.

Mirror takes you only from dark to light world (can't go the other way).
The goal of the dark world is to get to two dungeons (number 6 and 7),
but dont look at the map and ignore things fleshnig on it.

Since you solved the 6th dungeon (I can see from menu that you have
ether medallion) go to the 7th dungeon, which is actully here.

http://www.fileden.com/files/2009/12/2/2672982/help3%20%281%29.bmp

After that you have one more small (one big room) dungeon in light world
(doesnt flesh on the map; it is near the big east lake) and Ganon
(in the level you rescued Zelda, NE from village).

ohhh gosh i see okay. i thought there was more to the dark world that could be explored instead of only just the place where the purple tile took ya. did not realize.

i already found that dungeon there you showed below...but i got stuck there too because i just assumed it was something still from the original un-modified zelda rom that you blocked off on purpose so people cant play it...but i guess not...

i really hate to ask for help but in that place i seriously gave up cause i dont understand how to hit the stupid red switch thing here

http://www.arc-nova.org/kuja_killer/stuck%20again.PNG
it's annoying me soooo god damn much i cant stand it.
i tried every item possible. hookshot and arrows are usless cause they just hit that giant grey block.
i can throw bombs past it...but it dont come close to reaching the red switch.
i try throwing bombs in that small opening below me where i can walk a little bit further left, at the very edge, but it cant ever make it over the bottomless-pit

i try using all 3 of the special medalian medals..no luck. the boomerange is totally useless cause it cant pass through that giant grey block. neither does fire/ice rod...
tried hammer'ing every single little spot possible for any secret hidden stomping tiles..no luckl
ughhhhh :(

Kuja,

Use the Ether medal to freeze the alien looking thing who spawns near said block/switch. throw his frozen corpse at the button. Make sure you brought a couple Green potions in here, this dungeon is fairly magic reliant.

On the hack itself, while I did enjoy playing it, there are some issues. On the whole, the dungeons were pretty well designed, lots of interesting little puzzles to figure out, aesthetically, some areas could be more interesting... lots of instances with wide open rooms after wide open rooms with nothing but enemies, the odd doodad here and there makes rooms such as these a bit more interesting to battle through... one room in the gray dungeon has a bunch of blocks with hammer tiles hidden under them and no star tile in the room to indicate hidden stuff- I was stuck here for awhile, and while I did eventually figure it out, it could have been a bit more obvious. There's too many damn spikes in some instances; in the same dungeon there's a couple rooms where you need to walk through corridors of those spike blocks that are a little too damn narrow... you CAN use the cape/blue staff I suppose, but still this seems unnessecary. And while I can understand the desire to make some bosses tougher, making the entire damned floor out of spikes (twice in fact!) is just lazy game design.

Overworld looks nice in some areas, but on the whole feels pretty devoid of life... missing/unchanged text is a bit of a bother too...

Overall the high points outweigh the flaws, but this still feels more like an alpha/beta version than a fully fledged game.

By now you have the answer already. Yes, with ether medallion you can freeze
enemies. Now you can pick them up and throw them to peg switch (new trick, my idea).

Thank you for the review.

Puzzledude, I beat the game on 2.0 and had a few questions:
1. Is the lost smithy brother anywhere in the game?
2. Can I get the 4th level golden sword?
3. Is there a pair of the upgraded glove so I can pick up dark green items?
4. To the right of the village is a waterfall you can swim into and step inside, but nothing happens. No room, none of the items do anything. Is there significance?

It was a fun hack, but I have a couple of suggestions:
Spoiler:
1. Move Ganon to the Death Mountain. There is a boulder with two entrances. The one on the right plays the music "before the final boss", and has an image of a triforce inside along with a piece of heart. Currently during the fight with Ganon, if you fall off, you fall into spikes with the only way out is the mirror. Well the mirror sends you back to the beginning where you have to reactivate the blue switch. If you could somehow move Ganon into a re-hacked area of this, it may have more impact. I found it kind of odd how the king of evil is just chillin at the bottom of kakariko village.
2. More Dark World! I had fun exploring all the mazes/puzzles in the first world, that I would love some extra challenges from the other dimension.
3. Move the fire rod into a big chest. Way too easy to miss in the current build.
4. Re implement the area underneath the bridge! That was always a fun place to go to.

Otherwise, I had a hell of a fun time playing this. It reminded me of when I was 7 again.

Answers
1. There is no smithy brother.
2. There is no sword lv-4 and no armor lv-2 or armor lv-3 and no shield lv-3.
3. There is no gold glove (this would lead to bug area).
4. There is nothing in the waterfall, but you stand in it.

About suggestions
-Believe it or not, Ganon was on the mountain, but the pit would not bring Link to him,
since this rom file is somehow locked for palette or room header changes. The only place
Link would fall to Ganon was that room at the beginning.
-The dark world was bugged, specially sprites. So I removed 4 small areas. Since the
overworld was done by Seph, I included as much as possible of the unbugged drawings.
-Firerod could be in the big chest, but I decided to hide it.
