This ia Version 1.0 of the hack.... so...
Please PM me ANY discovered bugs (places where you get stuck perminently, crahses, garble)

no more deatils other than enjoy, and if you have any other questions then consult the read me

thank you all for playing!

***NOTE***  this patch is for [JU] versions of the rom only, also ZSNES1.4x DOES NOT work with my hack because of errors in the program.... all future versions of ZSNES will work.

READ THE README. No Joke.

Anyone here play this yet? It's the best Super Metroid hack available, everything has been changed.

Well, I was about to make some smartass comments about the author's spelling mistakes, but when I went to 'reply', Dragonsbretheren made his comment. So instead.... I'll give it the shot without being a smartass. :)

I've also sent this link to a friend of mine, who's a rabid Metroid fan. If anyone can find bugs in this game, he can (he's one of those Metroid fans who obsessively sought the Zero Level areas).

Hmmm. I seem to be having some problems getting the patch to work on the Metroid I've got (which is, incidentally, the [JU] version). When I apply it to the ROM, I get the 'title' of the ROM in ZSNES listed as <-<-<-<-<-<- (lots of left-pointing arrows), and the chksum is 'FAIL'. Thought the problem might have been a missing header, but SNES-Tool tries to remove the header instead of adding it when I tell it 'add header', so obviously there's a header there. Tried it with both ZSNES 1.43 March 29 WIP (yes; I know what the readme said about version 1.4x) and 1.36. Both of them show the same problem. Checked the game. So what else am I missing? Probably something really simple, but I can't think of it at this moment.

It's a header issue, I had the same problem, use the headerless patch. For some reason, even when I added a header to my ROM, the patch didn't work.

All I can say about this is that it is -massively- big. I mean, it'll take you a while just to find bombs.

Yeah.

Also, mad walljump skillz are a must.

Thanks. That did it. ;D

... sort of. Crateria's graphics are all screwy. Can't seem to figure out how to fix them. Tried both ZSNES versions and adjusted the brightness like it said. Everything is still one big 'grey, patterned wall', without any way for me to tell which areas I can land on or not.

I swear. I feel like the stupid kid on the block. :/

Heh, I don't have that problem, I'm playing on my copier. I'd try Snes9x, BSNES, or something else.

How would you say this is significantly different than, say, Metroid Legacy? I ask because a tool-assisted speedrun of that hack is being evaluated at nesvideos, and I'm curious what innovations this hack has.

Comparing it to Legacy is an insult, really, every room has been changed, you can't recognize anything from the original (Well, Ceres is the same, but that doesn't really count), and it has new physics. It's much larger than the original too.

If this hack is such a major one, why is there no news for the release? Definitely news-worthy.

I'm gonna have to say this hack is required material. People need a reminder of what a true full-on complete top to bottom (Except for Ceres Station) hack looks like. If you've never played any of the Metroid games, play the original..complete it..then this hack, you will be blown away guaranteed. Frustratingly hard sometimes, but still fun when you get into the "Metroid mood" of exploring and shooting.

I made a news topic.  I hope it's okay.  I submitted one before realising I forgot the patches.

I'm going to add it to the site as soon as I get Drewseph's permission to zip the headered and nonheadered patches together.

I allready submitted to the hack database.

"Yes I give you permission to post both patches in a zip file, but you MUST leave them as passworded zips and include the readme in the folder.  I'm so glad that you'll post my work =)  thank you!"  /Drewseph

Okay, the hack's in the database, I'll add some screenshots later, haven't had an opportunity to take any yet since I'm playing on my SNES.

I just finished one up. Although it's not one you'd want for the database. ;)

Here's what the game looks like in ZSNES 1.43 WIP March 29 and 1.36.

Seems to look fine in SNES9X, though. So unless there's just something in ZSNES that I can fix quick, looks as though SNES9X is the way to go with this one.

1.36 works fine for me.  It's just 1.4x that doesn't work right.  You made sure to patch the right rom with the right patch, right?
