hmsong I like that idea of a man to man fight, but yeah that seems like something that is very tough to do.

Queue I thought of another idea for the day/night cycle, what do you think about having the Goblin Lords appear night time in the upper land? They spawn also Ma Goblins too, which is nice and they wont disappear entirely from the game, serving as a last obstacle there.

Btw hmsong, you may have not been fond of the idea of fortress enemies having over 1000 hp but remember that earlier enemies seem to have even more hp than some fortress enemies (except fiend head). Like Captain Duck,turtlance for example over 500 hp, more than the tsunamis, wolf lord, Whimper, Terminator, Master Ninja. Those are just two examples, there may be more.

Tho again this is just my suggestion, it's not the end all be all. I will try to do a list of important enemies and what I would change for them in the future:

Armored Knight (Gnome) - 430 HP, Mud Saber, Defense Up, Level 6 Spells (High Physical def)

Dark Knight (Shade) - 600 HP, Shadow Saber, Dark Force, Level 7 Spells (High Magic Def)

Terminator (Lumina) - 1000 HP, Light Saber, Barrier, Lucent Beam, Level 8 Spells (high magic and physical def)

Dark Ninja (Non elemental) - 390 HP, Flame Saber, Burst, Level 5 Spells (being a ninja this family should have high natural evasion and hit rate

Dark Stalker (Shade) - 700 HP, Shadow Saber, Acid Rain, Dispel, Level 7 Spells (high evasion, same logic)

Master Ninja (Non elemental) - 1200 HP, Stone Saber, Sleep Flower, Herbal Boost, Level 8 Spells (high evasion)

With Dispel now removing herbal boost and Lucent Barrier, it's time to put it into use, by giving some powerful enemy or boss a spell like herbal boost which you would pretty much need to use it. And it makes things only fair, why none of them using it, now you can avoid that. These are just my first thoughts, what do you think about approaches like these?

A suggestion came to my mind, seems like no enemy does have the Shadow saber, why not give shade type enemies the shadow saber like the Gremlin or Dark Stalker for example? They could become a pain by stealing your mp, all while their def gets boosted.

Or even Wolf Lord, if originally kept as a shade type enemy. Tho I wont mind changing him into a Luna type enemy.

Ah, you're right! Just confirmed it. In all my years playing this game, I had never seen that before. The sword orb is pretty deep in the ruins. I've never felt it worth it to turn around and leave, then redo half the ruins just to forge the sword before fighting the bosses. I bet a lot of players don't know that Ghouls will spawn there if you leave halfway through level...

As a kid I was dumb to believe the weapons like excalibur and bow of hope were truly effective against undead. So yeah I did some things you could say, and sometimes I just left after beating the wall boss there then took my time with Vampire.

I think Ghouls are spawn in the northtown ruins outside after you get the sword orb there.

In turbo I can kill enemies at 2x hp in seconds. At 500 HP I still destroy the wolf lord, and I am quite low leveled when I reach the mana fortress (somewhere around level 45). This needs more thinking I would say.

I think all fortress enemies should have over 1000 hp, in turbo that still isn't enough since you can hit wolf lord for example continously immobilizing enemies like them, so it doesn't matter even if you give them 2000 hp, but still 280 HP is trash for a frotress enemy.

Queue I think lowering Fire Gigas spell power should be more than enough. Lowert his spell ower to the point that he can't one shot any of your characters at full hp if he casts a spell single target. I think that would be fair.

Mr X

Oh... I didn't know Spikey Tiger's multi-Fireball only did 1 damage.  Gotta fix that.  I'll give it 1-target.

Or I can really make things challenging by giving him... FLAME SABER!!!  I haven't tested it yet, but imagine how tough that guy will be if he engulfs you with every attack (and since he's Fire type, he'll get DEF boost).

I think flame saber is too unfair for that early in the game, each of his physical attacks would engulf your party. I wont mind if the Blue Spikey gets that saber tho.

hmsong haha I purpusefully do try to stay at lower levels to be more even with the bosses. Spikey isn't a problem for me, especially now, his multi target fireball does just 1 damage, fire breath can be blocked, I just put a character in front of him when he jumps to cast spells. Only trouble is when he rolls on my characters while I can block that withone character the other two will eat hits, but 7 gumdrops are enough for me. And he was at 3x hp  >:D

Fire Gigas was a straight up pain tho for me haha, if you are left with just one character alive, any spell of his would one shot you, Lava wave single target does the same no exception, hellfire is the only spell that wouldnt one shot anyone if cast single target.

Hm I wont mind gaining a few more levels, tho this is the problem with balance, you wont need those levels necessary for the next few fights, otherwise that is a reasonable approach. I could probably gain enough levels if I kill every monster in the underground temple, which is something I wont mind if it gets applied for every new dungeon, it is a reasonable amount of grind.

In turbo I don't generally view the spikey that much of a pain, I can just block is flame breath and physical attacks with one character.

The fire gigas is a real bitch to me, I have 3x hp for bosses set, my mp will run out for sure during that fight which isn't necessary a bad thing (be smarter with mp), in vanilla fire gigas could easily have been dealt with the amount of mp you got by that point by just casting freeze over and over.

What do you have in mind regarding a more reasonable Fire Gigas fight?

What I wa thinking generally, make some bosses to be able to cast saber spells on themselves. None does it in the original game. So for Fire Gigas I would go with flame saber on himself, and fireball/hellfire as offensive spells, would be one approach. He is the fire Gigas, turns into fire, you should get burned by his attacks.

Reduce his spell level from 4 to 3 may also be reasonable too? Idk.

Hmm while Fire Gigas single targets Lava Wave it is able to one shot the said target if it hits.

Only the boy was left in the end (had full health) and his fire ball spell did one shot him too. Could be my level is low also? (Level 10)

That is a great find hmsong, regarding how saber magic functions with enemies with the same element as the saber. Could open up other possibilities in the future. Don't think that's something that needs to be fixed either. It may have been intended all along but I never noticed it in all these years (or didn't pay attention).

Yeah I think it's a good idea to increase the mp of bosses/some enemies a lot more, especially when you have two mp consoming spells they will run out of MP very fast.

Mech rider 3 would also be more difficult with the dust flare he would cast it constantly, he ran out of mp rather quick and I was absorbing it so he casted it like 1 time at best.

 And instead of Wall give him some stat buffing spell and/or Blaze Wall so he would have deadlier attacks, he doesn't deal any damage to anyone.

Same for Hexas, a lot more mp would help her, she casts these various spells (still deal barely any damage to me tho, at least if she gets lucky to cast lava wave engulf would be a powerful tool) but eats mp too fast.

A better idea I had for her is give her ice/thunder/stone/fire/shadow saber to cast on herself when she changes her phases, as for offensive spells being acid rain/confuse/lava wave/dispel/dust flare or speed down (depending on which patch one applies).

But I think that is moreso of a idea for the far future.

@Queue

Thank you for answering all my questions.  I sure hope you can get that Moon Saber Defense (or any other saber?) fixed.

I just verified that monsters spawned from unpushable monsters (ex: Chobin from Eye Spy) are indeed unpushable.  Did not know that.

@Mr X

SpellS?  As in, all spells from Fire Gigas, and not just Lava Wave?  Hmm.  I like bosses to have multi-target spells.  In fact, I'm thinking about modifying some of the bosses' behaviors so that they'll target multiple targets.  Esp those who use Hellfire and Evil Gate.

Yeah all of them. I feel like Fire Gigas would be difficult enough even with single target spells and he would have two means to inflict engulf, one you could be able to block, the other through magic (lava wave) which you can't avoid, and his magic is still high level, he would deal even more damage individually I imagine if he single casts his spells, while still being fair without engulfing your whole party that early in the game (I beat him before through luck when he still was casting lava wave with engulf status).

I wont mind seeing those bosses target multiple enemies, I think those that multi target spells should have a higher magic power tho imo, Gorgontauturs deals very little damage with level 8 earth slide which is multi target, for example, something you should take into account for that.

What do you think about making Fire Gigas spells single target? That way you have means to get rid of engulf, Lava wave wouldn't be a problem that way imo.

@kethinov

Yes, that's exactly what I'm doing.  And yes, that's exactly what I would like.  I figured you would have been too busy, which is why I tried to attempt it.  Thank you.

I'm not trying to insist or anything, but how are you doing with the Dust Flare patch?  Were you able to make any kind of progress?

@Mr X

Wha?  Fire Gigas has that too?  Damn, gotta edit that.  Thanks for letting me know.

Yeah I think due to the lava wave becoming more mighty in turbo due to more powerful engulf, engulfing your entire party that early might have resulted in you gettinc wrecked unfairly, it was replaced with fire boquet instead hence why that seems to be the case now. I think it would be mice if Fire Gigas had simply single target spells, that way lava wave wouldnt be unfair that early in the game.

I wont mind multi targeting status effect spells later on the game tho >:D

With the dust flare on, Fire gigas will cast speed up/quick on your party. I would change it to cast it on himself or replace that with fire saber so he casts that on himself. Or single target lava wave (so engulf wont wreck your whole party).

I noticed the tiger was casting fireball on your party which is nice.

kethinov I would probably nerf cure water a bit if it cures status as well as restores hp at the same time, while raising it's mp cost to 3 or 4 perhaps.

Also I suppose bosses like vampire do still cast energy absorb?

I still wouldn't really use that spell when there are better alternatives than killing yourself, imo.

Also while Barrier is more useful for the mana beast, in turbo you can still get rid of it rather comfortably after some physical hits without the need of casting dispel over and over.

The Girl and the Sprite can still damage the mana beast just that they need to charge their attacks high enough. Use Herbal Boost/Lunar Energy and they will still pack quite the damage by charging up (the problem being if you don't control them or run after their initial attack they will stop charging/attacking altogether).

They aren't completely useless when it comes to damage output.
