Personal Projects / Re: Secret of Mana, Turbo - Beta 191016

It's not your save file that I'm after when I say "SoM Turbo.ini" but the ZPS Patcher config file, so I know exactly which features you have On and Off. When you use the ZPS Patcher to patch the ROM, in addition to the ROM .SMC file that's output, there's a SoM Turbo.ini file created. If you have file extensions hidden, it may just look like a text file with a gear on it, with the file type listed as "Configuration settings" (or something like that).

That said, lots of good info there for me to experiment on. And I think you have great taste in weapons.

Oh ok I know what file you mean, here you go.

Also I updated my last post, I think the Tsunami I encountered turned invincible after being poisoned, then claps his hands to clone himself, and viola, he's unkillable (but all the clone Tsunami's he spawns can be killed like normal)

teahouser and lexluthermiester, hm, want to get unkillable enemies figured out as soon as possible, but I'm failing to reproduce the problem. Can one or both of you post your SoM Turbo.ini file? Maybe to pastebin.com, or here within spoiler tags? I'm wondering if there's some combination of features that's causing it that aren't something I generally test. SoM Turbo.ini's just a simple text file, you can open it with Notepad.

I'm playing on a SNES Classic, so I think the save file is in a different format then normal emulators. Regardless, if my SNES Classic save file will work I'll happily send it to you. As far as what features I have applied, its very close to what you have it set from the start.

It just happened again with a Fiend Head, so I made a save state and tried to figure out what is triggering the unkillable enemies. I attack the Fiend Head and it takes damage as normal, Popoi then poisons it with Griffin Claws equipped, Fiend Head takes more damage while being poisoned, Fiend Head casts Hellfire Lv7, then immediately after the Hellfire animation is done and I can move my character again the Fiend Head has become invincible.

One thing in common is I have been using a lot of weapons at levels that grant them status ailments, Griffin Claws for poison, Hammer Whip for slow, Coral spear for sleep, Wing Bow for confuse and Imp's Fork for stun. Considering how Fiend Head was poisoned before casting Hellfire, then immediately after is unkillable, leads me to believe it has something to do with the enemy being poisoned/stunned/confused/put asleep, then the act of the enemy casting magic while having a status ailment makes it unkillable? That's my best guess atm, I'll try to make more save states with other enemies that become unkillable and see if I can figure out a pattern.

*Update*
Encountered an unkillable Tsunami, tried to figure out the trigger. Again, like Fiend Head, it happened after the Tsunami was poisoned. Once poisoned I think it did that clap thing to clone itself, making it become unkillable (the clone of itself it made is still killable). So far I'm still thinking it has something to do with the enemy having a status effect present, then it casts a spell or summons allies and a glitch sometimes takes place making them invincible?

No, even in vanilla, Devil Helm (Amulet Helm) can only be equipped by Girl and Sprite.  The helm you're thinking is Griffin Helm (only Boy can equip that).

Thanks hmsong you're right, I mixed up what his unique helm was.

I'm seeing this as well. They were talking about this earlier, looks like a fix might be needed. Perhaps a feature incompatibility?

That's what I'm thinking, but it's difficult to see what's triggering it. It still happened to me once in a blue moon with previous builds, but seems like this most recent build bumped it up from "happens very rarely" to "why does this keep happening every 10 enemies"

*Also a question*:

I just farmed the Devil Helm, and for some reason the hero can't equip it, but the girl and sprite can? Normally only the hero can equip the Devil Helm (amulet helm), and only the sprite and girl can equip the Spirit's Crown (faerie crown). As it is now the hero can't equip the Devil Helm, but the girl and sprite can equip both the Spirit Crown and Devil Helm. Is this change intentional? If so, why?

I've noticed a bug that happens occasionally, I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered this. A few times during my playthrough, while attacking an enemy, they become invulnerable to attacks/magic, damage numbers no longer appear, and there is no way to kill the monster.

Now it might have done that only 2-3 times during my entire playthrough, but now after updating to your latest build (191016), while I'm farming armor/orbs in the mana fortress I'm coming across these unkillable monsters every few rooms. It seems any monster can be affected, and monsters who are properly taking damage can suddenly become invincible. An enemy that becomes invincible who spawns enemies like Tsunami, the newly created monster properly takes damage unlike the monster that created it. Also the invincible monsters seem to be unable to damage the players at all.

That's Relocalized's fault: it added mana costs to the spell descriptions but it's just hardcoded text, it doesn't pull that number from the spell data. Haven't yet decided how I want to handle the compatibility fixups between the spell changes and Relocalized's spell descriptions because even just updating the text along with any spell data change is still a lot of work; way more work than the 1-byte change to spell data that changes the mana cost. I think the correct fix will be to add a new event command that can query and format spell data so the descriptions would be based on the spell data rather than hardcoded, but not something I want to work on right now.

Oh that sounds like a lot of work just for some numbers, I didn't know it was hardcoded text. That's definitely back burner stuff.

Really enjoying my playthrough. The Day/Night cycle, Unique Equipment and Functional fashion are a few of my favorite patches from you. Unique equipment really makes each piece of armor feel special and one of kind, not something you can go to the corner store and grab 3 of. It compliments Functional Fashion, always having all 3 characters have a different fresh look that's fluently changing as new armor is purchased and old pieces handed down to other characters. The Night/Day cycle helps to immerse you into the game. Very thoughtful additions to the game.

I noticed that when you have kethinov's Revivifier Mana Cost Reduction activated, it still lists the cost at 10 mana instead of 4 in the Girl's Skill Level for magic spells screen.

So I came across a small bug, when I'm assigning dpad locations for spells, some positions map the spell into the reverse spot I actually choose. When putting a spell into the Up or Down dpad location, it maps correctly. If I try to put the spell into the diagonal Right/Up position it will map to the Left/Up spot. Selecting Left/Up then press B and same thing maps reverse to Right/Up position, same for bottom diagonals. Spells selected for Right dpad will map Left dpad, Left dpad selection maps to Right side.

Is this normal? If it's not I do have reverse ring menu and reverse shop menu patches on, that's the only thing I can think of that I have turned on that would reverse the spell mapping like that (but not reverse the Up and Down spell locations, which makes sense sinse those two patches reverse the left/right movement of the rings, it doesn't affect the up/down menu switching.

Ok that makes sense, not a big issue at all as once I have more spells than dpad inputs I'll probably program them all at once anyways. Thanks for the reply.

teahouser, Quality_of_Life\Equip_2nd_Weapon overrides the X hotkey to be a weapon swap hotkey. You can still access teammate menus by going to your character's menu first (using Y) and then pressing X. And obviously if you don't use the weapon swap feature, or just can't cope without one-button teammate menu access, you can just disable Equip_2nd_Weapon.

Thank you for the reply, I really enjoy the quick weapon swap being X, but I had no idea you could press X when the ring menu is up for the controlled character to switch between the AI ring menus. That's exactly what I wanted to be able to do and still have X switch weapons.

Really having fun playing through Turbo with my gf. I just have a question about the spell hotkeys. Once I have a bunch of spells programmed to the dpad inputs, is there a way to quickly reset both the spell dpad lists to empty so I can start over from scratch?

EDIT: Noticed this on the first post "Can reset QuickSpell menu with 'X'/'Y'" I've tried pressing X and Y down but all the spells stay in the dpad. I must be doing something wrong lol.

Hey guys I have a question. I'm playing through and noticed that X isn't bringing up my allies menus, is that normal for turbo?

32
Hey thanks for the reply, I just checked and I did use a Final Fantasy III (U)(1.0) ROM, but I just went and repatched with a fresh ROM and it displays the M properly. The first ROM must not have been unheadered or had something else patched on it.

Sorry for bugging you unnecessarily. I'm excited to playthrough it now!

33
Hey I just started a playthrough of your latest version and noticed in the intro scene Biggs and wedge say "I heard she fried 50 of our agitek Armored soldiers..."
This is probably supposed to be "I heard she fried 50 of our Magitek armored soldiers..." as it is in the gba version.

The capital M is missing from Magitek, and armored is unnecessarily capitalized. Magitek Armor the A should be capitalized, but when describing the soldiers and using the word armored, you're now no longer talking about the specific title of armor, just that they have it on, so I'd go no capitalization like the other versions.

34
Sorry posted in the thread

Great mod man. Maybe add a bonus level, if you win the season as the Raptors the game switches to a street fighter match on the court with Masai Ujiri VS County Sheriff. Have what it takes for Masai Ujiri to win against the racist Sheriff trying to Card him after the game? You decide!

Finally got to try your hack, tremendous work, thanks man!!!

Just wish there was a way to keep the US music for the intro... could it be included somehow in a future version?

Still, with the MSU soundtrack, makes an amazing fresh experience. Thanks again!

To have the original intro music you must uncheck the "Turbo logo" in the title screen patch options. You won't have the added Turbo logo displayed unfortunately, but the music will be back to stock.

I also really enjoy your yellow title screen with your added Turbo logo, very sharp and matches the OG SNES box art spot on. If kethinov Timbo could supply you with a version of his Relocalized patch that doesn't touch the intro gfx at all, or you add an option to override his intro with yours when using Relocalized with Turbo.

I play on SNES classic so I'll unfortunately not be able to take advantage of all the work you've done with MSU-1 support but it is very impressive non the less.

I'm excited to play all of your future creations, your passion for SoM is very refreshing. I got it working correctly on SNES Classic, thank you. The problem was I wasn't using the stock preset ID 10B0, I was using a different one that was only enabling the HD text, the stock ID fixed the gamma issues.

One question, if Relocalized is checked then his white title screen overrides the one you made?

The file upload says the free hosting period has expired and only premium members can download the file. Would you be able to re upload it so it is available again?
