I guess it would depend on if you want the original SNES translation or the Relocalized version.

I can take a look if you have a save file. Is it like that without the patch?

Seems like the unhacked GBA version has the same pallette before and after too. I guess it's a limitation of the GBA version?

I don't really see the point in a gender neutral hack. I personally don't need a character to be the same gender as me to play or "identify" with. But it's there for those that lack the ability to play a character that isn't their own gender I suppose.

I noticed in Breath of Fire the castle in Camlon is basically the same pallette before and after you beat Frog. Before you beat him it's supposed to be much darker.

Are you sure you posted in the right thread ? I have no clue what you are talking about.. altho I think most of the roms available on the net do are headered, I dont really see the point of distributing non-headered roms.. Anyway, since headers are disposable, I guess you could just add some bytes to your ROM in order to make it work with a patch that requires a headered rom, then you could remove the "dummy" header

This, which is what this thread is about, requires a headered rom. I've literally never gotten a rom that comes with a header and I've read that there is no point to a header anyway. Adding or removing a header is trivial. I was just wondering what the point for it is.

Just saw this on the newest releases. I see it needs a headered rom. Aren't headers completely useless and from a time long since passed? I don't think I've ever had a rom that came headered.

Not like the Final Fantasy restorations. The Yoshis Island hack just restores a few of the sound effects like Yoshi's voice.

Do you mean this?

I stick with the SNES version of Yoshi's Island as there are still too many issues with the port even with the palette and sound hacks

Is there a sound restoration for Yoshi's Island? I've never played the SNES or the GBA version extensively (never past the first level) but so far I prefer the the GBA controls.

Seems like this place is already as inclusive as it can be. I mean you have lgbt hacks on one side and a hack about ghostbusters feminists. Censoring anything like that would be hypocritical considering there are a ton of hacks that decensor games.

Look at this!

So much for that fully translated into English thing, huh? Though I guess removing the Japanese and putting an English word in it's place is translating? :P

I'm dumb and didn't think to check the file for the creation date so just put the date I uploaded it here. lol

I don't know what reason you would want to retranslate the GBA version. Does it require less work to hack than SNES? Aside from the increased xp/gp, ui, and dash button the GBA version has nothing going for it. Most of that could be hacked into the SNES version like in BoF2.

Even a more indepth stab at unshortening the items and spells would make the game much better without even touching the plot translation.

I do. If its not broken, why change? Hate Snes9x and especially all forks of higan/bsnes. Found more bugs in my hack when using Snes9x for what its worth and zsnes is still stable after all these years.

All depends on users choices I guess.

Of course when you build a hack around ZSNES' speedhacks they obviously won't work correctly in more accurate emulators. ZSNES is horribly hacky and inaccurate and should really only ever be used if you just absolutely have to play a rom hack that is built around ZSNES and won't work in better emulators. It's also a security risk 'With specially made hacks and homebrew ROMs, it is possible for them to break out of ZSNES itself and execute native code on the host computer.'

Hey if you hate change then keep on keepin on. I would never want to use a program that hasn't been updated in nearly 10 years, with horrible inaccuracies and security flaws, but that's just me.

Are you sure it's the rom what you're loading in the emu? It wouldn't be the first time someone tries to run directly the patch in a gba emulator. Also, which emulator are you using? For which platform?

Sounds like he's trying to load the .bps file instead of a patched .gba file. lol

Hi, I was wondering what program you use to download a bps file; which is what this shows as the file type for the download. I'm having trouble downloading it, so it would be really helpful, thanks!  :)

It's his hack, his own artistic vision. Don't knock it until you've tried it.

Of course, everything should be open to criticism - but since we haven't even tried it, don't know the context for it and the execution - it just seems redundant to criticize it.

Also, this isn't a new concept, even in the Legend of Zelda series: http://zeldawiki.org/Playable_Secondary_Characters

None of those replace Link as the main playable character and are only temporarily controllable.

It doesn't really matter to me who the playable character is. Could be Mario or Pikachu for all I care.

77
I don't get why so many people are opposed to the idea of playing as Marin. What's the big deal?

Not playing as Link in a Legend of Zelda game is like you're not even playing a Legend of Zelda game.
