And then Rare did it afterwards, even if it didn't come to fruition. Why wait 'til now? DW has had tons of expansions like this, dating back to the PS2 days.

Just so everyone knows, we've got about 4 or so community members lined up. The only thing is it's gonna take us a while to get around to interviewing them all. We'll also need to do some fixing and implementing the suggestions.

I'd also like to do some basic text interviews for those who would be uncomfortable with an audio interview.

In addition to this I'd like to add that we'll make attempts to work within people's schedules. We understand that people are busy, and so if they can't sit down to do a 2 1/2 - 3 hour recording session all at once, then we can try and break it up into smaller chunks to better fit into people's free time.

I'm also looking into overlaying the audio, so that the listening experience is as comfortable, and pleasant as possible.

The echo seems to be a mic feedback issue on my end that's hopefully been addressed (I'll know for sure when we record again).

I generally trim dead air, I certainly may have missed some.

The left and right speaker issue is a bit more complex. The program I use to edit may have full mixing capabilities, but recording software doesn't. I'll look into this in the future, but unlike the other two, there doesn't seem to be an easy solution to this problem. Manually overlaying the audio also presents issues.

As for intros. That's something that we definitely should have done, we discussed a few ideas, and the next one will have something hopefully. I appreciate the feedback.

General Discussion / romcast 1 and 2

romcast 1 and 2 are up, and a big thank you to Talbain for hosting them.

The first one is Pennywise and I, and it's a bit iffy. He does a very good job of going through his previous, and current projects, but I feel like I didn't ask enough questions in the first half. Eventually things settled in, and we got a pattern going.

The second one is Pennywise and I interviewing Eien Ni Hen (that's A-en) and it came out much, much better in terms of the back and forth. We stray off-topic in a few places, but she offers excellent insight into not only her translation process, and the projects she's worked on, but also gives some tips to aspiring translators.

As a warning, there may be some mild cursing, and the files are both over 100 megs in case that's of concern to anyone.

I really enjoy the new banner, kudos to you for an awesome job.

999 into Spanish makes me happy. Frustrating that a game that interesting was so niche; so big kudos to those involved with that.

Gaming Discussion / Re: Game's that have caused you to feel emotion
« on: August 11, 2014, 09:22:17 am »
It's a bit cliche now, and it's been out for 13 years, but FFX. Of course all the game's twist are well-known by this point. It also helps that after the emotional roller-coaster ride you end up with the Someday the Dream Will End, which is the perfect song to both make you feel completely empty inside, and drive you forward. XIII also wields dramatic irony like a weapon with some of the characters.

Mass Effect in general is an emotional experience, especially if you play through the whole series, just due the sheer number of deaths that can't be prevented no matter what you do, and how easy it is to get invested into the characters.

All the PS2 games are up on the PSN in NA. Including Raidou 1/2, and DDS. Definitely worth checking out if you're interested.

If you want a classic experience, play Nocturne, DDS offers a more story/character focused experience. If the dating sim elements sound interesting to you, Persona 3/4 are worth the massive amount of time it takes to play them, and are probably the best money/time deals you'll ever find.

Gaming Discussion / Re: Favorite Game Music?
« on: August 08, 2014, 11:03:08 am »
Narrowing down favorite music in a game is a complex affair. Some people play a lot of games, and that's thousands upon thousands of songs a year. Some of them, like Nier, and Persona's soundtrack get a lot of love (though maybe not enough), whereas others do not.

Favorite songs also shift.

Gaming Discussion / Re: Resident Evil 1 gets remade, again.
« on: August 07, 2014, 10:59:26 pm »
As perhaps the only human being alive who actually enjoyed RE6 I will say that for all its faults, at least it tried to be something new in terms of introducing characters, and changing up the system. I'm all for remaking good games, but there's a limit to that, and remaking a game, that was itself a remake, based on a director's cut of a game is pushing that limit.

I suppose it could be good, drop One-Dangerous-Zombie, and at least I'd find the game playable, unlike say, the GC version of RE.

I'm not even going to pretend I understand the way Japan's laws work in regards to copyrights.

Doesn't appear copy/pasted, and the forum specifically mentions RHDN and Facebook as the place the TC put out feelers. That said, it seems like a pipe dream to me, not that there's anything wrong with dreaming big, but the odds of success are low.

At least they're realistic in their assessment that the odds of making money is close to 0%.

I'm not seeing maliciousness here, as much as misguided enthusiasm, but people with a strong enough passion can turn misguided enthusiasm into good things. It's just that the failure rate is much higher than the success rate in these situations.

There's a large gap between Yoshi's Island and Smash Bros though. I assume Yoshi's Island can linger for a bit, releasing it at a time when people will be more apt to buy it. Smash Bros will be such a major release that they will probably want to get it out as quickly as possible once it's finished. Especially because it's a game that's supposed to move console (pr handheld in this case) units, so pushing that back could affect other games.

That's what Orchestration is. I used arranged for shorthand, because that's what people associate with the word. It's technically called orchestral adaptation.

Edit: Things like transposing notes for various instruments fall under that banner.

15
I believe those are just arrangements or orchestration, and that it's intentional. The BoF3 soundtrack is seriously lacking, so arranged versions of a song not showing up isn't a big surprise.

Anything off the Nier soundtrack. The game has one of the greatest soundtracks of all time, without a doubt.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZjAkolwZXhk - Tales of Xillia's Overflowing Nature, probably the only song in the game that I can say I absolutely adore.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QY6I-R4Nmz0 - Tales of Vesperia's Tragic Decision. All around solid.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPjJNGeKmf8 - Star Ocean 3's Highbrow - Sakuraba's masterpiece, just to round everything out.

I'll Face Myself -Another Version-

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKAycv7yWyc - The only issue is that the song's heard like twice in the game. Same song, but the piano and trumpet are switched.

That Harmony of Dissonance one is ridiculous. I have no clue what just happened.

I wish DS luck. Personally I'm the world's worst speedrunner, so I find it to be an impressive skill. Sometimes I check SDA just to watch terrible games like Back to the Future.

I've never particularly cared for tool-assisted runs. It's impressive if someone writes the tools, but I don't find it to be the same kind of skills as a speedrun.

So it's impressive, but not in the manner that a speedrun is supposed to be impressive, to me anyway.

While I'll gladly say that the online FF fanbase can be: Self-entitled, rude, snobbish, petty, vitriol-spewing jerks, I'm not sure how much weight that should actually carry. I legitimately don't know. The only thing I can say for certain, assuming everything is as it appears to be, is that; going around your team and releasing a patch is bad form, and not cool. And I think Square was in the right in protecting their IP. Especially if they'd made contact with the patch's author beforehand to work out a compromise.

I'm certainly not trying to bash anyone, especially because I don't know said person, and I certainly don't know the full circumstances. I'm also not trying to diminish the accomplishment, which I have never seen so I couldn't comment on it one way or another. That said, what happened during, and post patch release seems to be the issue.
