Gaming Discussion / Re: Mega Man X Speedrunning!
« on: July 24, 2014, 05:46:27 pm »
I've never particularly cared for tool-assisted runs. It's impressive if someone writes the tools, but I don't find it to be the same kind of skills as a speedrun.

So it's impressive, but not in the manner that a speedrun is supposed to be impressive, to me anyway.

While I'll gladly say that the online FF fanbase can be: Self-entitled, rude, snobbish, petty, vitriol-spewing jerks, I'm not sure how much weight that should actually carry. I legitimately don't know. The only thing I can say for certain, assuming everything is as it appears to be, is that; going around your team and releasing a patch is bad form, and not cool. And I think Square was in the right in protecting their IP. Especially if they'd made contact with the patch's author beforehand to work out a compromise.

I'm certainly not trying to bash anyone, especially because I don't know said person, and I certainly don't know the full circumstances. I'm also not trying to diminish the accomplishment, which I have never seen so I couldn't comment on it one way or another. That said, what happened during, and post patch release seems to be the issue.

Dragon's Crown is very much an homage to Capcom's D&D beat em ups. Very pretty game, although some people take issue with the character models, the gameplay and loot systems can't really be denied.

Not much like Guardian Heroes, but if you want beat-'em-ups with RPG elements, then the Yakuza series. Plus, more content than you can shake a stick at (dozens of minigames from casino gambling to Shogi, and about a 60-100 sidequest per game).

I'd also point out something you said yourself, the PSP isn't even out of production yet.

I'll reserve the right to be completely wrong, but my gut says this won't have far reaching echoes. My assumption is that the letter was sent because the game is getting an official localization.

The only reprecussions I see on the whole in terms of fan-translation is that, perhaps more companies will go back and translate some of their older games, which could have effects on some translations that were thought to be safe to work on.

Excellent thread, and it's very cool to see the info on the various third-party carts. Congrats!

Gaming Discussion / Re: So, I got a Wii U...
« on: July 02, 2014, 12:57:00 pm »
I haven't owned a Nintendo console in a long time, so I really can't say definitively. I generally wait until a system's library of games fills out before buying a system, and at this point I can't really think of anything that the Wii U has that I really, really want to play.

Most of it simply looks like the same stuff that came out for the Wii. Things like Bayonetta and a Xeno RPG could certainly fix that, but even then, that's a big investment for a handful of games that I'd actually play.

The sports game, and fighting game lineup is very limited, and I think other consoles are the better alternative there. There's an HD Zelda, but not a new one until at least 2015. No Metroid, no next-gen Castlevania. I can play Deus Ex on the PS3 etc.

Yakuza1+2HD would have been amazing, but it wasn't localized, and Assuming it was, it would also have been on the PS3 with the rest of the series.

That's a messed up way for Mexico to go out. I was pulling for them, as they looked like they were gonna take down the Netherlands.

Excellent price point, definitely going to look into getting this. My RPG to everything else ratio on the 3DS is way out of whack, and that kind of ruins half the purpose of the system.

This is the first I've heard of this. I just did a quick search to get acquainted with that exactly it is. What's the price tag, and is it a digital-only release?

So very close to beating Portugal. U.S.A tied, gave up a goal 4 and half minutes into stoppage time.

Ending D of Nier? Ending D of Nier. Well like a few weeks ago. And Pokemon Y run 2 yesterday.

Ending D of Nier is pretty much perfect. I just hope, unlike me, you didn't name your character Nier.

The Müller thing I have no defense for, as I got on someone about their lack of an umlaut the other day. For Marco Reus though, that was merely a typo. It's hard not to know the fellow, seeing as I watched BVB all through the Champion's League. Not to mention I adore anyone who plays for their hometown club/team in any sport.

The thing with Gomez is, Germany has Klose on the bench, and Gomez does the same thing Klose does, only better at this stage (as Klose has got to be 35 at least). I guess it's a moot point as Götze is playing anyway, and Kroos is playing in the midfield. Either way I was just curious to see if he was injured.

I dunno, to me it seemed less like we were that good and more like Portugal was just terribly bad. After the early penalty goal they just threw in the towel and played like shit.

Well we know Muller may indeed be that good. The stuff that happened with Pepe was something I really don't like seeing, because I've been a fan of Muller for a while now, but he scores, he's young, and he obviously wants to win. Rues being out definitely hurts, and does anyone know why Gomez was left off the roster?

Japan tied Greece 0-0. Greece was down a man, and Japan didn't start throwing people forward until the 70th minute, and that didn't leave them enough time to actually score. Both teams missed some wide open chances. They also had a lot of different people taking Free Kicks, particularly that last one that should have gone to Honda, as he's proven in that situation. It's going to take luck for them to get through now, as Greece has to be Ivory Coast, and they have to beat Columbia, neither of which seems probable.

We have a couple saving graces. There was a Red Card against Pepe on Portugal, and Zusi is very good at corner kicks and set pieces in general. Brooks ball was solid, certainly not reflective of how we played for most of the game, but both were subs, and they played up to the competition, plus Zusi has been tradtionally good at corners.

We play Germany last, so assuming we even tie Portugal, we could be through based on that alone. Portugal is going to need a lot of goals to make up the differential.

All that said, they're pretty beat up. The long delay will be good for the U.S. team, but they may not be full strength even if everyone comes back.

And yeah, U.S. tried to play defensive, which you can't do for 89 minutes straight, it's just not feasible when you score that early.

The U.S. went up early, then gave up a goal late, and then, just like last WC, scored in the final few moments. An amazingly thrilling game for sure. Finally beat Ghana, who knocked us out of the last two World Cups.
