ROM Hacking Discussion / Editing Translated ROMS Question (FF5 and ToP)
« on: December 16, 2016, 06:29:18 am »
Just wondering how someone would go about changing the default Butz to Bartz in Final Fantasy 5 translation and Cless to Cress (and other character names) in Tales of Phantasia (SNES/SFC) translation. Would it require a hex edit of SHIFT-JIS?

Is this worth trying for Single Player only, also?

Ok ! Here's the first version of the the new thing:
SoM New Gameplay Improvement V0.01

It's in a special patch format (.zps), so you need to use the patcher that comes with it, the patcher will let you choose the features you want to use from:
*Strong and weak attacks (actually both do the same damage/take the same time to recharge as of now..)
*CPUs dont block the screen (they don't teleport to you yet tho..)
*Quick recovery
*MP in status area

The patcher will check if the Filesize and checksum (CRC32) of the chosen rom is what the patch requires, if something lights up red, try another rom.

There is not much features yet but I wanted to see if the patcher was working correctly.
Later versions will come with an updated patcher, make sure you always use the patcher that comes with the patch or else it might not be compatible (ill probably put a version checking thing that will keep you from trying to patch with the wrong patcher later)

oh and google chrome might tell you that the file is 'not commonly downloaded and could be dangerous', my domain just doesn't get much traffic..
I love SOM, man this hack looks so darn tempting right now :)

Proto Man Mega Man 1 thru Mega Man 6, still nope?

How soon is this beautiful gem coming out?

I think someone needs to do Proto Man hacks for MM1-MM6, like really good quality like the Roll Chan hacks, he needs his shield and scarf and whistle, I have several hacks from the internet some of which are combined like to give him shield in MM1 there are 2 hacks but there are some graphical glitches and another that gives his whistle when starting a stage in MM3 is a combo of a graphics hack and whistle hack and then there is a recent beta hack I discovered for MM5 that's pretty good, but the isn't any for MM4 or MM6, I think someone needs to start from scratch and make it really awesome like the Roll Chan hacks!

Well it's not happening any time soon, I want people to experience and appreciate NightBlader's work first, meanwhile I'll keep tweaking what I'm doing and getting the nerve to do so, so if there will be a release it will be TBA 2017 I suppose, "IF" until then I want to keep reporting bugs and giving the suggestions that some have already been implemented, I'm much more concerned about supportimg and helping him reach his final goal, a finished hack without any bugs or loose ends :)

Well, he has my permission to do extend my Super Mario RPG Plus hack as he pleases. I even gave notes on rejected ideas on the original.

I mainly wanted a "Vanilla+" plus experience, so I left a lot of things on the cutting room floor.
I've gone and changed character base stats and level up stats as well as change which levels learned spells/specials among many other things, also some item name changes, enemy name changes, other changes to personal taste or to "mix" things up a bit.

I might be doing an extensive addendum to Super Mario RPG Plus, awaiting several greenlights from original author, a graphic designer, and having never submitted any hacks before, the submission form looks very intimidating, I have edited roms and done mods before, but I'm very shy from sharing the work, so a lot of it never leaves my personal collection except to one friend of mine, of course I may be waiting several weeks or months to see how far that hack gets, but I'm telling you I've made a multitude of changes that it's almost complete and it's borderline not as subtle as the orginal hack, so I'll keep it locked away for as long as I can or unless my fellow designers, hackers, etc say they won't greenlight me, or I chicken out completely. Gosh I'm so nervous about this, people are gonna hate it, I know, wish I wasn't such an introvert.

the link in the description of the FFXII international (well, assuming this is a full translation.) just leads to a blank dark grey page. no text or anything.
What are you talking about?  The page loads for me!

If it gets locked, it might be because someone had a bad experience with a helicopter or haunting memories of one.
with one of the "ghosts" in the new Ghostbusters being a dragon, maybe there's a ghost of an attack helicopter, that movie just looks bad and not because it's 4 women, I feel like even if it was 4 men, we'd get crap because remakes go either way, but usually the bad way!

I'm a little bit disgusted with the community right now, all the attacks on the Legend of Zelda Gender Neutral hacks are unfounded! For one such attackers are saying it's disgusting and bringing up stuff about the LGBT community, when in fact it has ZERO to do with that community, if you read further into why the guy is doing it you will find that he said and I quote "One day my daughter might play video games, so I'm doing these hacks so she can feel like the hero/player, in fact the Japanese version on the original NES game had very few references to Link being a boy and even the creator said Link is an avatar for the player" We all know that in canon Link is male, but does it really hurt anyone that these hacks exist, it's not like you are being force to use them OR that they will be enforced in the re-release of any game, it sounds like people who hide behind the Attack Helicopter meme are plain out anti-gay and anti-woman, insecure guys attacking a father for making hacks for his daughter that even she might not even play one day. So think about that, a man does something gender neutral FOR HIS DAUGTER and all of a sudden it's a free pass at hate towards women and LGBT community.
