ANNOUNCEMENT: Editing graphics makes me want to take a swan dive off the grand canyon so if anyone wants to help me with that it would be GREATLY appreciated. Right now I am working on the title screen and player sprites.

Decided to add a cape. Now I have to redo every single sprite. Someone kill me.

Personal Projects / The Legend of Emi Oracle of Grace

Though it is still extremely early and I have little complete I would like to unveil my next project. This will be a hack of The Legend of Zelda Oracle of Ages. All I have done so far is created the new main character's sprites and the font (much easier on the eyes now). I am still learning how to disassemble the game so that I can change the title screen, intro, etc. When it is finished it will contain a completely new story, new characters, and such. Think of it as the long lost 3rd oracle game that never saw the light of day :)

Long ago the Triforce was entrusted to the goddess Emi by the very deities who first created it in hopes that she could protect it for all eternity. For centuries peace reigned in the kingdom of Ruibaru thanks to the power of the Triforce. However, the light in the world was eventually threatened by a rising darkness that sought to seize the power of the Triforce as predicted by the 8 Oracles of the land long before. The Demon King Kage who lead the army of darkness was successful in obtaining the Triforce of Power before being defeated in the battle for the Earth. The goddess in attempt to protect the remaining 2 pieces kept the Triforce of Wisdom and entrusted the power within the Triforce of Courage to the 8 Oracles. Each was given a piece and locked away within a faraway shrine. The final action Emi could take was to divide the world into two dimensions: one of darkness and one of light. Now, with the last of her strength she summons a hero from a distant land to retrieve the Triforce shards and use their power to defeat the darkness once and for all, restoring balance to the world.

EDIT: The font is at 70000, but it doesn't look quite right to me.
They helped me figure it out on Discord. You need to set it to 1bpp as opposed to 2bpp.

So I noticed there is yet another great game which does not have any completed ROM hacks yet! As soon as I finish my CV3 hack I will be moving on to ZoOA, but I figured I already have some questions so I figured I would just make a thread for them here.
For starters, I was messing with graphics and I noticed that I couldn't find the location of the intro/title screen or the in game font grapchis.
Any ideas where these may be? (I've checked on data crystal already)

Fiddle around until you got something as practice makes perfect.  That's how I accidentally made my Sonia sprite lol.

By the way, I've been thinking on what you asked me in your PM.  I'll send you my contact info here in a bit once I'm done doing housework, just taking a breather for lunch right now  :D
Ahhhh thank you so much! levelengine and I have really wanted to talk to you :)

What a strange, meaningless coincidence. Just a few days ago I saw a video by DYKG on this and was really interested actually. I'll be sure to give this hack a try once I get around to playing it  ;)

Damn right, I've been waiting for a Castlevania III hack for years.  Also, by "day to night transitions", I hope to god that you mean a gradual darkening in pallet, and not "what a horrible night to have a curse."  But a gradual pallet change would be really cool.
Haha no need to worry. I do in fact mean that the game begins in the morning (hence "Daybreak Castle") and progressively gets darker until it becomes night. As you can see in the screenshots the morning, afternoon, and evening all have their respective color palettes.

Because of the dialog and the story dosen't take itself to seriously and I read some of them and I find it funny.
Example A (Props to anyone who knows where this meme is from):

Wow. I'm really happy I happened to stumble upon this thread. Can you guys explain the process of changing the palettes on the title screen to me? Also, do you have any information on how the game handles bosses and how it knows what stage to take you to next once you beat a boss? Oh and if you know how to change the character palettes during cut scenes that would be greatly appreciated too!

EDIT: So I changed the colors of the title screen, but I couldn't change the colors of the opening sequence?

freakin sweet
Thank you ^-^ I have devoted all of my free time to this project for the last few weeks and I am determined to have it finished as soon as possible. Fans of CV3 have been waiting so long for a full fledged hack of this game and I am here to deliver!

I have finished all the stages up to Dracula's Castle. I'm still having some issues with moving bosses around and messing with character cutscenes so if anyone has any knowledge on how those work please feel free to share it with me :) I will continue to post whenever I have any significant news to share and hopefully we can finish this hack before February!

Stage 1: Daybreak Castle

Stage 2: Abandoned Factory

Stage 3: Frosty Forest

Stage 4A: Ship of Scalawags

Stage 5A: Crystal Tower

Stage 6A: The Bridge

Stage 4: Leviathan Lagoon

Stage 5: Underground Waterway

Stage 6: Cursed Temple

ROM Hacking Discussion / Castlevania III Hacking Questions
« on: December 24, 2016, 09:17:27 am »
I know there isn't a lot of documentation on this game unfortunately, but I figured I would start a thread to see if anyone could answer any of the questions I have / will have while developing my hack. First off, does anyone know how changing bosses works using reVamp? For some stages modifying the bosses works and for others it doesn't. Right now I have an issue where I changed the boss of the Sunken City to Death, but after you defeat him when the stage ends it boots you back to Stage 1. My guess would be that it is some kind of error handler since the game should be taking you to the second part of the stage at that point. So if I could just find where the code tells the game what level to take you to next then it should be fixable hypothetically, right?

hack of Castlevania III, or Akumajou Densetsu?

If it's only CV3, please try to make a Akumajou Densetsu version so we who love VRC6 can get our groove on.
Sorry! The hack is for CV3, but I will see what I can do about making a version for Akumajou Densetsu.

Hey everyone! I thought I'd share some info on my latest project :) I am currently working on a hack of CV3 known as Castlevania III Prelude of Light (name finalized). This is my most ambitious hack thus far and so I am doing my best to make it the best experience I can for hardcore fans of classic Castlevania. Honestly I am surprised by the lack of work that has been done on such an amazing game so I have gotten in contact with levelengine, another CV3 hacker, who is assisting in the project as well. I don't want to spoil too much so I won't be revealing much more until the hack is released, but expect a fresh new Castlevania III by the time it is finished!

*For those wondering yes this is the same project I posted before, but I needed to move it to the right section of the forums.

The story takes place in an alternate timeline where Dracula defeated the Belmonts and conquered all of Europe. Thus, a new generation of Vampire Hunters are born and team up to restore peace to Transylvania. The story definitely doesn't take itself too seriously and the dialogue between the characters is meant to be witty and entertaining.

    Opening Prologue:

    Vampire Hunter

    • Redesigned stages
    • New characters
    • An Expert difficulty
    • Modified sprites & palettes
    • Rewritten story & dialogue
    • Day to night transition

Finished the character scenes dialogue as well as the opening sequence and title screen text.
Also, the passwords are now as follows:
    -NOAH (2nd Quest)
    -PEARL (Sypha)
    -CHASE (Grant)
    -JESSE (Alucard)
    -I SUCK (10 Lives)

Going to get back to working on stages now! If you have any suggestions I'd love to hear them :)
Eventually I will need someone to assist with modifying the sprites for the title screen so if you know how to do that (and are willing) then please let me know! I wouldn't mind putting a team together for this now that I think about this.

I'm finally back and I have another big new project! I am working on a hack of CV3 (aka the best and my favorite). This hack includes entirely reworked level design, modified sprites, and a level of difficulty that will be even more frustrating than the original. The story is still being written and the title will likely be changed in the future. So far all that has been completed is stage 1 and I am still familiarizing myself with the editor (reVamp). There are many unexpected limitations I have to work around, but despite that I am still doing my best to create the long awaited CV3 hack people have wanted for so long now :)

Does anyone know how to remove stairs or breakable blocks when editing objects??? I swear I have tried everything, but just can't figure it out.
