Nice list.

BBCode in the first post is broken; I think you don't need " for URLs.

Be sure to apply the patch to a clean copy of the ROM, and make sure your ROM DOES NOT HAVE A HEADER!. If you right-click the ROM and select Properties, it should read "Size: 1.00 MB (1,048,576 bytes)". SNESTool will remove all of your headers for you easily, and you can find it at http://www.romhacking.net In the Utilities section, simply search for snestool.

An easy way to tell if the game has a header or not is that if you apply the patch and the game does not boot, your game very likely does not have a header.

Small inconsistency. ;)

I wonder where d4s hangs around, I'd like to ask him some questions... most specifically, how he managed to detect the presence of bsnes. While not hard to detect an emulator vs hardware, I want to get his hack to display that message that "only appears on the real thing" :)

Hmm, this is strange... soft-patching with ZSNES caused the game's startup check to fail. Hardpatched ROM works.

The best one is the 3rd...

Aerdan: Because Visual Basic is a portable language? This is the UI. The UI is VB.

It'd be easily portable from one PC to the next.

Uhm...

GetPrivateProfileInt - reads integer value
GetPrivateProfileString - reads string value
GetPrivateProfileStruct - reads binary data
WritePrivateProfileString - sets string value
WritePrivateProfileStruct - sets binary data

-you should add support for patching ROMs within .zip/.rar files. Just to test, I tried
patching Magna Braban within a .zip and it just corrupted the .zip file. I had to redownload.

Backups, dude.

Well, it helps if you know x86 ASM... maybe that's the way to go if it doesn't 'click'.

There are patchers: http://zero-soul.panicus.org/Development/

Just no patch creators except the mentioned one.

At the moment there seems to be only a XRIF+NES patch maker.

ZD has a ZIP file for RXL up, dunno if there's a format description inside.
http://www.zophar.net/utilities/patchutil.html

You don't have to support all XRIF chunk types; some are optional. What's so difficult with TREP, TRLE, TCFR, TCFS? TFSM, TCRC, INFO are even easier, and .END, .SYS are trivial.

Nice hardware section on that homepage. :)

There is no menu. Seriously. There's not even keys like Ctrl, or Alt, or basic stuff like square brackets. The only way to post links is by manually copying them from one window to the next:

http://www.sitekiosk.de/

That's the software that runs on this terminal (an older version). Click on "sitemap / Terminalherstellerliste" to see a sketch of the whole thing.

And no, I don't want to talk more about it. </rant> :P

This "keyboard" has no CTRL key, and a trackball with only a left mouse button. :P
Did I say that I have hardware problems...

Project status can be found on the ZSNES board ("Emulators" subforum).

That movie editor looks interesting. I'm looking at that "Movie begins from" option. I want to try to edit a movie I have to start about half way through.  How would I accomplish this?
You can change that option, and when you save the file, vSNES will then include the currently loaded state.

So you'd have to do the following:
 - load the SMV
 - load a S9X savestate
 - change the SMV in the movie editor
 - save to a new SMV file

No guarantees for success though, and I'm assuming that you know what you're doing. The format description can be found here: http://tasvideos.org/SMV.html

Using the 1.6 headered patch on a fresh rom, I go into norfair from a savestate or saved game, when I go into the first room to the right that should have the morphball maze, I just get stuck in blackness.  I have the Ice Beam and Varia as the latest items.  Whats wrong?
Uh... don't use old savestates or saved games?
