Personal Projects / Re: Super Famicom Wars (translation project)

Red Star is officially "Orange Star" in the international localizations, but I guess you don't have to change that if you don't want to.

I feel the same way.

I don't think there is anything wrong with donations. But forcing people to pay just rubs me the wrong way. This editor still has a long way to go and it needs all the help it can get. I really hope money doesn't mess up this project.

Exactly. Most people into the ROM hacking scene are doing it out of passion or to better their own skills (Wave on this very site is a great example), not to turn a profit--and given that nobody here owns Mega Man X, the legality is very much up for debate. I feel like there are some things that shouldn't be turned into capitalist ventures, and this is one of them.

Giving the classic 8-bit graphics a Wily Wars-style makeover (except better, it the case of the sprite artwork) is a neat idea, and this looks super charming! I might give this a whirl.

What possessed you to think locking a reverse-engineered fan-made modding tool for a game you don't own behind a paywall was a good idea? It's not. Capcom has every right to sue you into next decade for this.

Mr. Stay-Puft is looking puffier than ever.

It was actually Bits Laboratory who developed the NES version of Ghostbusters.

It's almost comical how much lamer the official screenshot looks in comparison.

MSU patch for Donkey Kong Country 3 SNES, to use the GBA soundtrack

Why would you want to? This is just opinion here, but the GBA soundtrack is, in most ways, worse than the SNES one. I'd appreciate the reverse much more, if anyone ever figures out how to reverse-engineer Rare's proprietary GBA sound engine.

I'd suggest against using the PSX script as a base for this project, it's full of little inaccuracies and dumb little stuff like adding in fourth wall gags without reason or motive. Either the GBA/PSP script or the DS script would be the way to go, I think.

The GBA soundtrack took out the voice saying "chocobo" in Techno de Chocobo. An unforgivable sin.

No niego eso.

Plus, arcade games don't/didn't pretend to be "free" so they can sucker you out of your money with microtransactions to do the most basic of in-game tasks, like so many scummy, should-be-illegal smartphone "games" (let's be honest, it's all just tapping on things and giving the creators money) out there. The mobile reboot of Dungeon Keeper is an atrocity and I'm glad Mythic is dead.

The French translators are dirty liars and should be ignored.

Leaving Japanese text in a game that's not Japanese in setting just looks bad.

...Sailor Moon is set smack in the middle of Tokyo.

Should probably note that all instances of "Deku" are changed to "Mojo" in the French versions, because "deku" sorta sounds like "de cul" or "from the ass".

The "Pretty Guardian" title has been in use ever since the live-action series dropped waaaay back in 2003, although to my understanding, even the faithful Viz redub of the series drops that part from the title. That said, a lot of fans just call them "senshi" because the history of the term is, um, complicated (another valid translation of senshi is "Soldier", and in fact if you listen to the BGM during the transformations, that's just what the singers are saying), and they want a common term everyone can agree on, something that can't possibly be inaccurate.

Haven't posted in a while on account of not having a computer, but it looks like this is coming along really well! Between this and Mario Odyssey, it's looking like a good year for the man in red.

Wave is getting seriously obsessive with this "every game must be available in Spanish" thing. I mean, Double Dragon V? Someone should tell him to slow down before he hurts himself.

Should probably note that even official Japanese media labels him Yoshi now. "Yossy" is a thing of the past.

Thing on the left is a ghost. The letter P is obvious. I have no idea what the thing on the right is. Maybe it is some kind of big-headed robot dude with beady cartoon eyes. These graphics are messy and terrible.

Is it Starfy or Stafy? Make up your mind!
