How about translating Zoids 2? I think it's a worthy game.

Here is a basic main menu, I'm thinking of doing a more custom one with it centered and taking up more empty space.

Hey guys, I was going to work on your title screen, but your translation doesn't show a download patch, or am I missing something? usually it's by the patch (i.e. 1.0).

Newcomer's Board / Re: Is this Displaying Right
« on: January 10, 2014, 07:31:13 am »
Is this displaying right because I don't know, I set Japanese on my pc and that other stuff but what exactly am I looking at. Have people done any tutorials on this stuff before because people should share the know how.

Probably shouldn't be demanding anything lol. You're verbiage doesn't quite say "please and thanks".

Yes Ghanmi is 100% right. How are you trying to display the hex, just opening up a hex editor and a file doesn't make it japanese. Are you using a SHIFT-JIS table? Where did you get it? Are you sure that file holds the text you're looking for?

I may have less than 20 posts, but I've been translating japanese for a publisher for over 3 years, and translated over 40mb of plain text for fansubs.

I'm not english native as you can see, but if you post your translation and POINT where you want a second opinion, I'll gladly help you. As it looks right now, you're asking the work done, and hardly someone here will give you that. So try to make it look otherwise if you want prompt help.

BTW, don't use Google. It's useless. Really, there is absolutely nothing you can use from Japanese Google translate, it fucks up all grammar. Don't use it to associate words, use a dictionary for that.

He/She is right, Google Translate should only be used for helping you out in the beginning, like with simple words (Items/Status, etc.). Usually people are a lot nicer around here, so I don't quite get all the nastiness, but whatever. However, I do understand that translating is a costly and timely endeavor, so most people here help out for free, so being honest all around can be beneficial.

Original Poster, if you do have an original translation, post it, someone should be able to assist you. Most RHDN members are quite nice.

What game is this? Can you give the full content, or the other parts you've translated, it may help.

Thanks? A PIX viewer is typically a PIX viewer  ;)

Focusing on my post in "personal projects". The .PIX or image files I'm trying to read/view/edit are for the Wii game, Earth Seeker.

I'm trying to figure out how to modify the title screen, as it doesn't appear to be in the .ffx or .pac, but rarely an image file.

The above link is for a .pix image file

It comes from the game Earth Seeker, that I'm currently translating. A Wii title.

I have NO idea how to read it, no program I found will identify it.

IT should look like this.

Please help, if you can or have free time.

Thank you,

I guess if you're patching individual files one by one, but that format can only patch up to the first 16MB of a file, so it's discouraged from use in larger format games (CD-based, GBA, DS, etc.)

Doesn't bps have a multi-file patch format?

IPS works fine, plenty of room, very SMALL files, though a lot of text.

I've managed to do a lot of translating for the options menu, items, and NPC areas. My main question is now, I've found the New Game, Continue, and Erase Save location in the SYSMESSAGE.FFX file, but When I translate them, they aren't translating on the actual menu, so I'm curious if these are located elsewhere and I've changed something else where in the game.... lol.

I got the original files from the MOD (Cyan) from the post on (after I started hacking), however they are crap. Doombringer translated like .01% of the game and it's google translated. Plus the dude didn't know how to use a patcher. His ppf patches corrupt the ISO and the game fails to load.

I've done .ips patches and tested the game I'm doing with both usb loader and physical disc media.

I've actually started doing items and the menus themselves

I'll post pics soon

Some of you may know me from and my Neo Geo Pocket Color translations (If you don't, no worries lol). I've been dying to mess around with this game. Seeing DoomBringer's initial creation and the others that followed made me want to continue the work. I just translated a few sections of text to mess around with everything. See the picture below. I believe the issues with the patching before was just silly instructions and lack of patching knowledge.

1 - Develop the patch file using .ips format

2 - Extract the four .FFX files

3 - Create an Iso or download the game.

4 - Patch the .FFX files

5 - Use Wiiscrubber to replace the existing files on the disc .iso

Here is proof running on my television, using NeoGamma as the disc loader. Don't worry about the added text after the name, I was just messing around, since I didn't have a font table in use yet.

The Font Table is SHIFT-J, so I was able to identify WAY more than what I thought. There are still come characters that don't show up such at the exclamation mark seen above, which is actually BB for the fancier "!" and 21 for the standard "!", both work though.

Update: I got ppf copies of the original patch from a Mod here, so I'll see what DoomBringer was doing, maybe I can release something more. I know the other guy got WAY further than what is listed in the DoomBringer patches. I don't understand why he didn't release anything.

Just Shut up will ya, you will know, don't keep asking, just wait till they release it, they will not hold on you when its done and you asking will not make the process any faster.

Just stop acting stupid, do you really have any doubt that you will miss the news when they release the patch?!!!
Just be quiet and behave till they are done.

Chill out.

Sorry it's been so long my relative is still in the hospital and I've mostly given up hope, but if I could get someone to translate this one menu I could start working on it again.

where the cursor is pointing I know that is status but I need to know what the others are.

Please Help.. Thank You.

In cases where I don't have a japanese translator or my japanese is too limited, I tend to use windhex and dump the TEXT to a file and then run it through various software. Usually battle menus etc. are easily translated using this method, however doing full dialogue it is definitely not wise.

Journey to Silius is too hard no matter what, but in this quick hack I gave you way more life to make the game somewhat more enjoyable:

Nice work.

Aren't you using the 8x16 tile set of letters? I think 8x8 letters can be used.

Also, if you look into YY-CHR there are two pages of 8x16 letters. They have some letters that are the same but also have other letters changed.

btw nice work on the Roll-Chan game. Yes, I'm using 8x8, instead of 8x16, as you can see from the picture (I left two of the 8x16 characters to show you). Tile Layer Pro, shows me two sections with the letters, plus a third that houses some of the end game letters. The problem is when looking at the game using Fceultra Emulator, I see what hexidecmial the letter should conform to. i.e. ABCD LM, which should be C0C1C2C3, however I was only able to find that once..... which is what you see above, the "Mixed Pizza".

ROM Hacking Discussion / Pizza Pops! Translation - Famicom
« on: December 22, 2013, 02:35:43 pm »
So, I got the mapper hack file from Mottzilla for Pizza Pops and I've translated all dialogue for all 7 levels. Now that the hard work is done, I've tile swapped out the Japanese characters for english characters. Usually this would be a piece of cake and I'd be done in 30 minutes, however FCEUltra (NES Emulator) shows me what hexadecimal the game is using for each font character letter (C0=A, etc.), however I'm not able to find it in the game itself. There's two main font "tables" and one semi font "Table" where the game pulls sprites/tiles from.

I can find the first two lines below at 0000F708
However the last two lines of text are no where to be found
(The weird lines, etc. was me just identifying spaces)

I'm curious if the mapper hack did something to how the game stores text. Anyone have any advice. I'd post the rom, but I know Mottzilla doesn't want it leaked out.

I saw you actually submitted a whole bunch of NGP patches. Do the other games have similar roadblocks? Not that I could help you, it's just that my interest in the platform received a boost recently and I'm generally already inclined to pay some attention to more obscure systems.

It's more just time and still learning the "proper way" to rom hack. The two biggest issues is some games have no English alphabet and have 10+ font tables, based on what part of the game you're in, or have 15+ font tables, because of the game controls (like Cool Cool Jam)
