Personal Projects / Re: Bowsette (Donkey Kong ROM Hack)

And we're back. This isn't an entirely completed project either because of the following image.

Currently a work in progress, should be done by mid-late June. Take a guess as to who the villain will be.

I'm gonna say Peach and call it that.

I'm playing the Koopa Peach hack and I'm loving this so far! It's funny seeing girl versions of every single enemy in the game even the fireballs have crowns!

I beat this again this morning and it was pretty good the work you did. I think to me the game should've been this way instead of what Konami did back in the day. I used the Japanese patch and that was because the emulator I used gets good sound with the VRC6 chip being emulated and all and it was nice to hear Evergreen again at the end of the game. I decided to give this a go again after watching the second season of the Castlevania anime again.

Cool, can it be combined with the control hack?

Yes it can my man! I just tested it and it works. Just make sure to patch it over this game and you're good to go.

One thing I would do is change the font and numbers to look like the ones on Link's Awakening or something nice. The plain, blocky font that they used looks too generic and boring as well as not giving the game a unique style.

Second that. The font needs an update badly. I played the original game and found it hard to read at times. Link's Awakening's font is much more up there.

I've been expanding the maps where possible, as there is a lot of unused map space, and abandoned areas. Alas, replicating most of the maps from Blaster Master Zero aren't possible due to Blaster Master's compression system. I'm not changing absolutely everything in the game, because a lot in Zero is essentially the same as it is in the original. I don't have much else left to change, as I've just been changing things on a whim here and there. Come to think of it, I should probably submit it to the site tonight. Anything else I could change dramatically could be done as a separate hack, and as far as I can tell, all of the tile errors from the original game have been fixed.

That would be a good idea!

Lookin' good my man! I wanna play this when it's done as I liked the original game a lot.

I'll give this a shot. I never played this game because of all the problems I read about in reviews but perhaps this hack will change it so the game is fun again.

This looks great! Do you need any more testers? MegaMan 3 is my favorite in the classic series and this looks amazing!

That's ironic for me too! This game doesn't get enough love and I would like to definitely play this hack of it too. Just another one to add to the list as 9 sucked so hard that I uninstalled in off my PS3! At least 10 is a much better game and I can play as Bass too!

I like the choice of palette too. I've never seen anything like it before. Hopefully, I'll get a shot at it soon!

There's no need to fight over this at all. :( I played your hack and the Gold Edition one (review here: There's no comparison at all between them.. The former clearly is a beginner hack that used the base of Weird Mario. The latter is two hacks with a level curve akin to 2J which I have completed a couple of time already.

Don't accuse someone until you have evidence to back it up. I love both hacks and I want to see people create content and be civil about it. Also, this hack rocks! I liked the region coin designs you implemented zacmario as no other hack has yet to do the Odyssey thing. You both are talented in my eyes. szemigi, your hack as I mentioned in the review should be the go-to one instead of actually playing 2J itself (it's a pain in the ass on nesds where FDS emulation doesn't allow save states for those types of games).

I thought so! I played it a while ago during the whole Mario Maker craze which has died down now.

Hey you used the Weird Mario sprite there for Uncle Fabio! I'll give this a go when it's finished.

I say stick with font 2 as 1 is clean but the lack of bold could be eye-straining to read. Also, is this gonna be a full translation of the game? I tried playing this but the Japanese stonewalled me.

How many more of these games do you plan on translating? Can you define early Famicom games in terms of what year?

There's no hacks of the Punch Ball Mario Bros. & Mario Bros. Special games and I'm shocked as there 2 hacks of Super Mario Bros. Special here.

These articles tell the whole story on the 2 Hudson Soft games:

I just want to say that this hack made the game come to life and this one is a guilty pleasure for me. Thank you for the hard work with this gem!

Can this work with Optomon's Secret Edition hack? I'd like to play that with SRAM as well. It's a much harder game than the original one.

Will Mega Man have his correct blue coloring? The TV show he was green of all colors and it made no sense as traditionally he's always been blue. Beyond that, this is neat as even though I've never watched the show, this I will play for curiosity's sake.
