Night palettes:  B >> A

Fire palettes:  B > A > C (although this is quite a bit closer...)

By the way.... I'm not very far in, just on my third level in Quest 1, but in retrospect a subtitle has come to mind for this hack and I think it would have been a good one:

"Perils of Darkness: Another Song of Ice and Fire"

I actually voted no.  Not because I'm in favor of censorship, but this is why we have

Hey, congratulations on getting this finished and released, The3Dude!

I started a YouTube channel where I do skits, and I tried my hand at learning Python, but while doing so I've had this nagging feeling to finish what I started.

I'm in full agreement on the Python part here.  It's a big chip for any industrial outfit that's involved in programming, software development, IT, etc.  In fact out of all the programming languages out there, if you had to learn only one of them I would put Python above the rest.

Is there a way you could get something like the Diablo font in there?

That could seriously rock.

Forces of Darkness
Demons of Darkness
Crown of Darkness
Fields of Darkness

Well, it's done.  I was having trouble getting to the last four rooms of level 9 -- ok, what I thought would be the last four rooms anyway -- and I was going to post asking for help earlier today but instead decided to fine-toothed-comb through the dungeon and found the room I'd forgotten to check.

Speaking of which, I think there's a door near the end of level 9 that was left open, and should be locked until you defeat a particular guy in the room.  And when I say the end, I mean the real one.  That's about as much as I can say without spoiling the finish.

All right, I'm in level 6 of the second quest, passing through several ingenious dungeons along the way.  I have the red candle, letter, book, and white sword, but not the ladder, whistle, or large shield.  I'm at a place where it seems like the only way on is to buy a key.  I've got the money to do it, but is that necessary?

Hi-ho, just got to say that this might be the best hack of Zelda 1 since the Legend of Link.  I've got a couple of small things for the 1.7 release:  the spelling of the word "UNFAMILIAR" should be checked in the story panel, and the item menu doesn't chime when you select the boomerang.

I'm playing on Veteran, and I've been trying to go through this without the help of the manual.  There is a room in level 5 that I can't seem to get into in the 1.6 version no matter what direction I approach from, that I could get into in the original release.  The room is at the top of the map, directly north-west of the room where you get the raft..  I suspect that this room has, or leads to the second bomb upgrade.

Gaming Discussion / Re: Does anyone know what game this is?

so there's this game that I saw on a console that I don't remember, on display in something like a Circuit City back in the mid-1990's.  It was a first-person dungeon crawler of some kind, you had to go around a labyrinth where the walls were made of some sort of blue crystal that looked something like this:

In an early level -- maybe the first one -- you had to collect 6 crystals that were scattered around the maze, then an exit would open up.  After you found and went through the exit you would go to the next level, where you had to collect 7 crystals......

This is all the information about this game that I've got, and it's been on my mind for a pretty long time.

I found an item for the 1.1.3 release.   :)  If you examine a sealed door in Level 4, it gives you a repeat of a message tile in Level 1.  The sealed door is right next to the curved doorway that leads to the room with the slingshot.

By the way, was it intentional to release the 1.1.2 version here on the same day as Breath of the Wild?  If so, very nice touch.

There were boots in the original Zelda II but they weren't winged.  They just let you walk over water

Hope you release the game soon, meanwhile I will play Metroid in Nes just to warm up.

I might also recommend Grimlock's own run-up hack, Metroid Incursion:

Provides a one-tenth-sized-dose preview of what Rogue Dawn will be bringing, and yet is arguably the best currently available Metroid 1 hack in its own right

I'll suggest Final Fantasy: Ascendant, in honor of Tris Prior.  I saw Allegiant in the theater last night and apart from the visual effects it was just meh, so I presume they'll try to close the series strong.

This is the most recent version:

You can see how I used the coin's palette on the walls, that the bench's shadow is the same color as the ground, etc.

Ah, looks like the coin icon was given more coin-like colors.  I had meant to suggest that  :)

Glad to see the hack made it into your graces, Mr. Atoms! And yes- I've been convinced to release an alternate "Epilepsy Friendly" edition once the regular edition is finalized.

Btw, I've been meaning to ask: were you the one who submitted the sultry Summer Landscape?
I know you were a Special Guest Meth Lab Designer for the 2nd Quest, so at least that much has been appropriately credited.

Hmmm.  I do recall sharing ideas about the landscapes.  As I recall, it involved the distant horizon and/or a river.  I'm not sure it got incorporated though.  I still have my design plan image files for "Level X," but not the landscape.  It's likely I'll be able to recognize the summer landscape one way or the other, when I get to that point....

Greetings!  I'm thrilled to see this is finally out after being so long in the making.

The look and gameplay is better than I would have imagined, but an old problem is giving me trouble.  I'm playing the 1.13 patch.  Every time I pick up an Iowa Piece, the associated counter flashes up to 1 and then goes back to 0.  I must have picked up at least four Iowa Pieces, but it didn't add to my life meter.  The counter at the character selection screen, as it happens, is a garden-variety death counter.

I'm using Nestopia v1.4.1, in case it matters.

--EDIT!!--  Since I haven't been here in forever, I looked back at some of my recent messages, more for fun than anything.  Good thing.  The "Load recent" feature in Nestopia had thrown me off again; I had made the same fapping mistake and was actually playing an older patch somehow.  With the new patch, the Iowa Pieces work fine.  Forget everything I posted that wasn't breathless praise.

Although, some of those flashing meth lab rooms are going to give somebody epilepsy......

Did you apply the patch to a 1.2 ROM? I've heard from someone who used an incorrect ROM that not using 1.2 causes something else like an enemy to come out of the chest where you should have gotten the power bracelet.

Oh, you mean that weird spiny monster coming out of that chest wasn't supposed to happen?  Now it's time for some rom upgrading.  I edited my rom's original filename, so I don't even know how to check what version it is...

I've been to every overworld screen I can reach, but I haven't been able to find the power bracelet... D-:

Dialogue is refreshing  :)
