The one dialogue with Master is one of the instances when you call him on the phone and he talks to you. Generally, you're asking him about what's going on with Madoka.

Thanks for the Romeo & Juliet reference; would not have caught that without you guys.

Something about not being able to talk about "The Power" with Master. I'm wondering what purpose "なんか" and "がなく" are filling, though.

*Note: 能力 is usually translated as "The Power" in the manga; it's the term used for Kyosuke's ESP

Grandpa:Ugh... well, setting that aside. Kyosuke, you know about the ability to see a foresight dream, don't you. Until now, I haven't had the experience of a foresight dream. Last night, your honored ancestor appeared and informed me of this.

Grandpa: Well, with this information. What do you think, Kyosuke?

Having a lot of trouble with the Grandfather's type of speech.  All of these are from the same conversation except the last one. Also wondering how to render an equivalent "old man"-type of speech in English.

Working with Esperknight on a translation of the Kimagure Orange Road game for PC98. Have a few passages so far that need a second look.

Umao: Ah, Ushiko. Why, why are you
Ushiko: Umao, you, why are you?
(The joke in the Anime is that these characters always are saying the same romantic stock phases. Any thoughts toward a good substituteas opposed to a straight translation? This doesn't feel quite right somehow.)

Also, the main character's sisters call him おにーちゃん fairly often. To me, translating this as "brother" all the time seems a bit weird; I think it works better if they call him by his name. Thoughts?

Well, it's been a while since I've worked on this, but I'm getting back to work on it. I hate leaving a promising project like this dangling, and this should help me practice Japanese over the summer. Just one piece of text right now, it's one of the messages from the owner of the weapons store:

Quote

The use of なんか is what has me confused here.

I currently have this translated as "Whadaya need? Well, make your choice carefully." It doesn't seem quite right, though.

You get a little bit of extra dialog if you beat Arai, otherwise winning or losing the other fights don't change anything; you can't lose the game. I wouldn't say that's a bad thing; in the original PC88 version and the sequels, these minigame sequences had a more annoying format; and you couldn't advance in the plot until you won at them.

6
There isn't a save system, unfortunately, and Anex86 doesn't support save-states. It's not a huge issue because the game is pretty short, and you can't ever lose.

Hmm, Junkie is the name of one of the monsters, I still don't think that sentence makes any sense, though.

How should I deal with the backwards text, then?

I can't help out much with the context, most of these seem to be part of the conversations between the player and the other Screamers. I haven't seen very much of this text in-game so I don't know what actions will show which pieces of text or which character the text belongs to. I plan on inserting the rough translations for the time being and then testing the conversations extensively, and note which instances of text don't make any sense.

Hmm, even with that there still isn't enough room to fit that all in.

There are a few passages that my translator had trouble with, and several more that I need help editing down.

5Fのと(のと might also be ID in Latin Encoding)
I'll tell you of something good. 5F's ID was resigned(?).

You dodge a lightning.

From the direction where the Beast came from(connects to something else)

The Pendant read a legend.

Junkie helps you leave(Junkie might be referring to the character named Junks, no idea here)

Conclusion is it's bloody(My translator guessed on this one, and says it sounded unnatural)

Samurai is putting on some red decoration...(the word decoration seems weird here)

The next few need to be cut down to fit into the game.

(Not sure on Katakana there)は てんごくに ある
There is Hell in Heaven

I want to die on a tatami mat

Don't do that... Be careful of the shadows

It's time to come back...

Caprice(?) is talking about the Ring.

There's this obscure PSX flight sim called Wing Over that was localised with "improved" dialogue and names and a "better" title screen background, and was "purified" of the scenario mode. They even swapped your starting plane with that of another pilot because it was Japanese. It's a shame, because the game is actually pretty interesting (though the AI is fairly basic).

How does this game compare other PS1 flight sims? I thought I had played all the other flight sims on PS1, but this title seems to have escaped me because it was Japan and Europe only, I think.

And back to the main topic,  Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari got Americanized when it became River City Ransom, and one of the 2-player modes was removed.

Okay, I need help cutting down some text here.

Dealing with Nazi makes me happy.

I have room for 22 characters in this spot, so I can only fit in "Dealing with Nazi make" and I can't think of a good way to shorten this sentence but keep the meaning. Any thoughts?

Thanks. Are you using Windhex to display the text, because I haven't been able to get text to show up properly. More important, does this encoding support single-byte text?

I noticed that you were working on Atata Meccha Special by TKO Soft and I was wondering how you were able to view the Japanese text. I've been looking through other TKO Soft games and I noticed that they were coded in Basic but the code where text is supposed to be displayed seems to use Latin characters instead of Japanese characters, depending on the game. How did Atata Meccha's text show up?

It seems that no one noticed these two passages. I have someone working on the script now, but it would be nice if anyone could translate these two sentences for me.

kyoomo atsutomekai?

maido gokuroonakotaga, maa shikkarikosedekurunda na.

I thought it would be something similar, so thanks for clearing that up.
Now, I have made an attempt at transliterating all the monster names. Not 100% on any of these, so I have uploaded them.

Can anyone double-check these? Thanks in advance.

Well, I didn't have enough space for the last part, so the whole section is "There's a lotta crazy people out there, you know".

I'm going through the in-game menus right now, and there are two weird options in the Weapons store:

か う
ka u
う る
u ru

What are these supposed to mean?

Ah ha. I realized where I screwed up. I got confused and thought that those passages were part of narration instead of being dialogue of a character. Thanks for that.

Edit:
Okay, a few more sentences here. I think I have the first two but I'm not sure. The last 3 I have no idea on.

OK, kakuninshita
OK, confirmed(?)

omae o toorokuzumi no SCREAMER toshite mitomeru
Your Screamer registration has been recognized(?)

tootteiizo

kando, isshoni sakedemo nomouyo

Ima, otagai ikiteera no hanashi da ka

My Japanese has improved considerably lately, and I've been getting back to work on this game. I'm working on getting the first menu translated.
Right now, there is a passage on the first screen that has been troublesome.

Nanise inochishirazu ga ookute ne

kao wa oboekirenainosa

Can anyone help with this? Thanks.
