KingMike had the whole script for this game dumped a few years back, albeit with errors. I'm not sure what became of that project, I tried working on it but the font table and other issues made it unreadable at a lot of points IIRC. I ended up forgetting about it :/

Any chances of being able to insert custom graphics? Besides the Sonic series and I guess Super Mario World, not enough editors out there for many games do this.

I already tried comparing values when using the wings item that lets you teleport between places. No go. I take it by changing of map you mean comparing values each time you go to a new screen, which of course I've tried already. Very first thing I did =p Unless you mean something else?

Well, I looked into it a bit and figured out how to replace stuff using CDmage. So far not finding anything that replaces levels heh. Gonna be a lot of trial and error.

I noticed in the SLPS file it says this.

AREA SELECT = %02d SECTION SELECT = %02d

Wonder if that means there's some sort of level select easily accessible. Damned if I could figure out what to edit to get it to come up.

I'll be blunt: outside of making codes, anything more is too much for me. I'm a translator, not a programmer :P Don't have time or motivation to learn so much more outside of simple code searching, as that'd require more time spent learning things just for this one game. I have zero idea about pointers and all that stuff.

But going by what you're saying, it sounds like I'm probably not going to be getting any results this way In which case, I'll probably have to wait around for someone else to figure this out. Or go another route and try to obtain a prototype of the game haha.

Well, I am actually trying to, but doubt it'll be as easy compared to just finding a code. Hopefully some other Tomba fan out there decided to try to figure this out, as it seems I've met my match here.

I try to find unused areas in games by making cheats, comparing different values as you move scene by scene. Usually this works pretty well, but not this time.

I'm trying to do this for Tomba on PSX. Not the US version either, the JP one. So far, I've gone over 5 hours and nothing. It seems impossible. I haven't met a game so stubborn that no code coming up in the address list seems to have anything to do with what area you're in.

So I'm asking you guys, are there any other tricks I can try here? So far all games I try seem to store the level values in one address, but the way this is acting I'm wondering if this may be one of those games where a cheat needs four different addresses, kinda like when you find a debug mode or something.

There's unused graphics for lost areas in the game apparently, so I'm hoping a level code might reveal those areas. So I'm pretty excited but at the same time impatient with how long this is taking :x Anyone got any ideas?

I'm sure my wording is a mess since I'm so tired and can't think at this point  :P

Someone else once asked me if I could give just the script, which makes no sense to me. If you want to play the game properly, best wait for it to actually be in the game. Staring at all the English text isn't going to help you identify which parts of the game the text corresponds to, and if anyone's seen a dumped script for a game, it isn't ever in a linear order anyway, as Penny said.

Plus there's already an English walkthrough of the game here for anyone that impatient :P

It was already posted earlier in the thread, but just FYI I never knew of it until after our translation started and have nothing to do with it.

I once was working on this game, hoping to do a surprise release. Translated a ton of the scripts, though I never kept count so I don't really know how much I had done. It all ended up lost in an HD reformat, so it's long gone now :/ Never felt like getting to it again.

Second is definitely better than the first. I can't believe how short the first one is. I never figured out if those tools could be used on the first game, though.

Good luck!

Is there a list of graphic offsets for the Tiny Toon compression tool? Else I'm not sure how you're supposed to be able to find things on your own.

Ah, thanks! But that reminded me there's the more full version of the song with Japanese vocals that came with that soundtrack. I wish thinking more about the lyrics for the version in-game, that has no Japanese but only English lyrics.

Thanks though, I never heard that one part as "moment of the sign," always swore it was "moment I decide."  Now I know  Thanks for taking the time to scan that btw!

I'm still looking forward to it too  :P

It's not much to keep secret, but I'm also working on a personal website that will cover all things Moon. And I mean everything I can get my hands on. And one thing that would help in the meantime, if there's anyone that knows the music before waiting to listen to it along with our English translation(shame on you!), it'd be nice if someone could transcribe what they hear for the lyrics to I'm Waiting For The Night, as I get completely lost at one point, and it'd be neat to have on the site :) What I can make out:

I'm waiting for the night
The moment....(I decide?)
My breath(breast?  :D) is getting
Close and close(??)
The time has come for us
Where we can be(??)

If anyone wants to waste time waiting here(how ironic), no better way to help out :)

NA's probably the only community where repros are given so much value, it's like people just can't wait to give away their money for something that cost significantly less for the person to make. :/

Mind you I'm a member there and it's generally filled with nice people, but the amounts of money people are willing to throw on these things... I just don't get it.

I almost forgot about this game. Last I saw, Gil couldn't get it hacked for more text space, making it so nothing could be translated as elaborately as one would want. I wonder if that's still the case..?

Now I'm remembering a translation I was doing for him that got lost in the Megaupload take down  :-[

Was that something esper was doing or are you just randomly bringing up a game you'd like to see translated?  :o

I recognize that game, tried playing it before but couldn't get too into it, I'll have to try it again someday.

Someone else with a secret Moon related project?  I can't imagine who else besides me is doing anything with it

Am I correct that this is the equivalent of nearly $4,000 a month? Is the cost of living in Japan so great that that's not enough? Because otherwise that sounds like quite a bit of money to me, MUCH better than minimum wage  :P

There's been lots of progress recently behind the scenes, it's just never posted :) I don't think percentages are ever a good idea. In fact, statistics show 90% of the time they're made up out of nowhere and don't really mean anything...

Last I checked in esper only had one more VWF to implement(the game needs one for separate areas of text apparently), if I'm not mistaken. I see someone else offered translators, but that portion of the project's already been taken care of, but thanks =p It's going through one final proofread though. After that it's off to testing and that's it.

I don't have real time frame on this though, and most of what's left is out of my court now since I already finished the translating portion, so I'm probably not the best one to say exactly what's going on anymore. It's definitely NOT dead though, let me assure all of you  I'm also preparing something special of my own for the game in the meantime that I've been working on everyday recently, so this project's still in my mind daily. Nothing's been forgotten.

Hopefully we have more news soon :)

Personal Projects / Sonic Heroes for SNES!!..... kinda
« on: July 18, 2012, 09:33:23 pm »
No, it's not a completely original game  :P This a hack of Animaniacs for SNES which replaces the Animaniacs with Sonic characters that I've been doing in my free time for nearly a month now. Mostly inspired by the infamous Speedy Gonzales hack Sonic 4 on SNES and other such sprite hacks that have been sold in other countries. I tried finding other SNES games where you run and also had all of the character graphics uncompressed in the ROM(my hacking skills don't go past replacing sprites), and this was the closest I could get. Plus I happen to like this game so it's a good choice :)

I'm almost done inserting all the sprites, which are being made from pieces of Sonic 3 sprites. This gets particularly difficult when you have to try to fit someone like Sonic, who has a head that spans across four 8x8 blocks in width, in place of Yakko's head, which only takes up two 8x8s in some sprites. Needless to say some sprites in it aren't perfect, though I've made a lot of original animations based of the original Animaniacs animations that I think have come out not too bad. BTW, Tails' tails had to be deleted as there was no room for them :p Still need to get the proper palettes in too, but I'm saving that for when all the sprites are in.

This should been finished within a week. Dunno how much attention sprite hacks get here, but if this ends up on pirate carts in Brazil someday then I'll be pleased :) If anyone feels like helping also edit compressed graphics(the title screen and the world map characters would at least be nice to replace as they're still Animaniacs), that'd be neat.
