ROM Hacking Discussion / Re: Acceptable to include patchers in download?
« on: November 17, 2018, 08:40:06 am »
Well, cmdpack at least is only available if you use the wayback machine anymore. And size is hardly and issue, since it would only add an extra 654 kB. I mainly just wanted to make it a little more convenient and avoid confusion with someone using another version with a different file name or something, at a low size cost. But I'll defer to people who have been at this longer.
I guess you can submit the patcher here and add that link to your readme.

And BTW, for those feeling that this game is too hard, remember that this is one of the rare SRW games which comes with the "Game Over Glitch" (debatably a glitch, but that's how it's called).

As in, after every Game Over, the scenario automatically restarts without booting back to the Title Screen, and thanks to that a few things that you got from before it are kept in, as long as you don't reset. Unfortunately here on A Portable, that only applies to money. So no, can't grind levels here.
Is that really a glitch unique to this game?
I've seen this feature since the old SRW like Ex, 4, F or FF.
As long as you don't use the save function in the chapter, you can restart the chapter with the extra money you got from the previous Game Over.
I've used this to farm money because we did not have cheat device decades ago.

Script Help and Language Discussion / Re: Kanji ID
« on: December 29, 2017, 11:26:34 pm »
I'm having trouble with a single kanji. It's the first of a set of font tiles that are in order by on-yomi. The kanji directly following this is 愛, so my suspicion is that the on-yomi is "あ/ああ/あい". This may not be the case though.

Wow. Okay, never mind. :P I found it in a list of uncommon kanji. 你

It is a very common kanji

Script Help and Language Discussion / Re: Xenogears - 天帝
« on: November 26, 2017, 08:14:06 pm »
Is Emperor really that unfamiliar to western ears? I know 2 famous Emperors that I'm pretty sure they are more well known in the west than in the east.

At first, I think 天帝 could mean 皇帝 of 天河, like this Emperor.

Then I think about this, he's not a God but a Godly Emperor with god-like power.

Now after reading Solaris wikia page, it reminds me of Tales of Destiny II's twin planet, so Celestial Emperor could be an option.
天帝 is simply just an Emperor in the sky.

I think these would cause confusion. The game constantly uses 神 to refer to God, and it uses 天帝 to refer to a character named Cain (天帝カイン). Cain is like the representative of God on the planet. His ultimate goal is to revive God (神) so humans can go to paradise.
How about King God? Or God Emperor?

If there is a character named Cain (天帝カイン), then it does not mean a real omnipotent God or a Creator.
I think it is more likely the King/Emperor of the Galaxy/Universe.

Sorry for the lack of updates. The script still needs to be finalized, and the names updated to match the latest games. Once that's done, I'll fix the last few remaining bugs (flickering of Item menu, and potential bug with Lover names in death quotes).
I know you are not in charge of the script update.
But holding the bug fixing update off while waiting for the name update is pointless.
You know that it is not the purpose of a fan translation.
You'll have to wait until Nintendo officially releases the localized version of FE4 for all the names.

Hmm, interesting. There were 2 other names in Chinese in this game, but I don't know if they're Mandarin or Cantonese or whatever. They're Renmazuo and Haixiao (incorrectly translated as Haishao). All I know is that the former means Sagittarius and the latter, tsunami.
Renmazuo 人马座
Haixiao 海嘯

I think they are Mandarin.

The remaining characters in Cantonese
闇=am
撃=gik
黒=hak

I suggest you go with Mandarin for all the names, don't try Jyuping or Cantonese.

10
You're using the Mandarin pinyin for the deathblows but his name Wong Fei-hung is in Cantonese style, Huang Feihong is his name in Mandarin.

I've tried some tools, the best so far I can find are BMP2SNES, grit, usenti.
Klarth's Tile Editor tool is supposed to be exactly what you need, but I'm not sure if it has been released yet.

Programming / Re: Fewer Excuses for making Text-only Programs
« on: June 25, 2017, 07:54:52 pm »
I don't see what all the big fuss is about. I never had much trouble creating GUI, at least in programs using C++ and Java. You can just drag and drop menu items in some of the more popular compilers. Sure, if it only does a few things no biggie, but I mean is it really that much extra work?
Most of the tools here are open source.
If you think it is an easy task, why not do it yourself and show it to us.

Creating a proper GUI is much more difficult than cleaning up the code, man.

How about "Battle against good Demons and bad Angels".

@DDS:While lurking around the internet, I've found this Sol bug fix routine, I don't know if it really works, you should try it.

It's in Japanese.

Script Help and Language Discussion / Re: What do these 3 Kanjis mean?
« on: November 10, 2016, 03:05:13 am »
I think he meant the three at lines.
First is usually "all", complete"; second is "life", third is not "ja", but I can't remember the meaning.
Left of 18, It's 金 (gold), not 全 (all)
Right of 18, 心 (heart)
命 (Life)
邪 (Evil)

The Japanese rom use shift JIS encoding, you can start from there.

I can see that you're trying to fix the unfinished menu in FE5 Shaya's patch.
It's not a space issue or a graphics mapping issue, it's just a unfinished translation text.
I think you need to find the menu font location first, FE5's font is uncompressed iirc, and create a table, to know which byte will display which character, then you can edit it.

I think I can answer some of your questions.
The language is Vietnamese, not Thai.
kaiwa means dialogue in Japanese.
And here are the tools he used: Microsoft Windows 7, EmEditor (it's a text editor), Unikey (it's for Vietnamese text typing, ignore this unless you're a Vietnamese), Xkas, Catographer , Atlas, Stirling, Windhex32.

Zsnes is so obsolete now, but it might be the only emulator works in this situation.
