The intent of this is to try to make more characters viable.

I personally hate the word "balance" as that leads to so many issues. The intent is more so to make every character "complete" and playable at least.

We also have a translation project which has been helping us out as well, and we are trying to get other game modes like Three Man Cell and 4P mode working ideally. Some custom stages and more costumes would also be ideal.

It would be best to join the Discord for more information and if you wish to DL and give opinions or help with coding.

Whats up, ninjas? It's GNT4 Remix build update time. Introducing Beta V3! For the first time, chakra consumption has been edited! In addition, some first steps have been taken in making 3v3 more playable, but glitches do exist in the mode. Any help in identifying when/how the glitches occur would be appreciated.
A detailed changelist is forthcoming. Keep your eyes peeled!
Download and unzip the patch file: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1m7EfCTeHO2kQxmKkAtY6vNvQi_RYss7Z
Apply the patch using this program (APPLY TO ORIGINAL GNT4 ISO, NOT THE PREVIOUS GNT4 REMIX BUILD): https://www.romhacking.net/utilities/598/ If you're having issues, message me and I'll help.

Have fun!

Starting Monday, we will begin examining a few characters at a time in detail to make them as complete as possible. The first batch of characters is Team 7, so that's Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, and Kakashi. If you frequently play any of these characters and think you'd be suited for the discussion, hop on the Discord and talk to Daveeb.

We are working on getting together a plain words changelist as well as knowledge of some of the issues that are known. This has most of the information translated already which is good, as well as attempts to bring more characters up to a more complete function.

I hope you all enjoy this!

I'll have to download this to look at. I loved this game as a kid!

Personal Projects / Super Smash Brothers Melee Characters Adjustment
« on: January 11, 2018, 08:25:14 pm »
The intent of this project was not to balance Melee per se as that would be nearly impossible and either make the game silly to play, or so bland it's not fun. What this mod attempts to do is to bring the Tiers closer together. If Fox is considered a 10 and Bowser is a 1, this mod aims to make Fox more of a 9, and Bowser a 5 or so. The characters still feel unique, but they have been made to be more functional as a whole.

Apply the XDelta to a clean 1.02 ISO

i could see that working since most modern controllers really aren't all that different from the N64 design. different shapes, mostly the same number of buttons...the C-Pad might be an issue though since that would be the right joystick.

D-pad > D-pad
joystick > left joystick
A > X
B > O
Start > Start
Z > Select or maybe Square
L > L1
R > R1
C-Pad > ...well, maybe if you set the L/R buttons to L3/R3 instead you could use the L1/2 and R1/2 buttons for the C-Pad.

Using the internal control options within the game combined with reassigning some of my buttons I was able to do it in the emulator. This would be a great change to make it work on a console or with less setup options. The only other issue is that strafe is super fast and does not feel correct with this type of setup. It would be ideal if that was more normalized with walking speeds to make it feel more like any of the current and newer shooters do.

ROM Hacking Discussion / Gamecube ROM Hacks
« on: January 07, 2018, 03:50:09 pm »
I have worked on a few gamecube mods for SSBM to make the game have more viable characters in a competitive setting and am currently working on a Naruto GNT4 one for the same as well.

Would either of those be posted here ideally?

An idea for this I could see is to adjust the Goldeneye and Perfect Dark 64 controls to work with a PS3 or Xbox 360 dual stick. The strafing might need to be toned down, and adjust the controls. I know that you can use the in game adjustments and work your controller to match this, but it's not optimized.

So I had an interesting idea that I have been experimenting with. I have been looking at Smash Brothers 64 being played on a Wii or on the computer via an emulator and I was curious if it would be possible to program tap jump off and/or a C-stick setup for the setup.

I think the easiest way to set this up might be to make the D-Pad function as a direction+A to mimic the C button (and then you can assign it as needed). The only issue I run into here while testing on emulators such as Sixty Force and using dual mapping, I come up with a C stick that does not function as I would desire it. It acts to counteract the control stick presses (ie: C stick left while holding right will get you a neutral aerial instead of moving right while performing a left aerial). It would essentially need to function in a way where it the D-pad would be the priority input but immediately stop until put back to neutral, therefore allowing the main stick to take over the function.

It might be an interesting coding challenge, but I wonder if it could be done.

Gaming Discussion / Re: The original NES Controller
« on: March 12, 2015, 12:09:08 pm »
I have thought about taking some of the older controllers and wiring them to work with my PC. It should  be fairly easy to convert them to either a RJ-45 or a USB plug in order to use the controller I want for that  game.

I prefer using the controller developed for the game on the system in nearly every case. Currently trying to set up Goldeneye64 to work with the dual stick setup of an XBOX360 controller though...

Did your wife reach anywhere near the game's 3 years? Is she the kind of player who even would? It may be plenty of time, with replay value coming from doing things differently to see different endings. To miss your wife out in seeing all of that including special events is probably not a good exchange. Consider the Animal Crossing series for indefinite play.

Harvest Moon 64 is indefinite as well.

I saw an Action Replay cheat that allows you to modify the current day. It may be possible to input that as a permanent feature (to groundhog day the last day before the game ends) or something like that once the game has reached that point.

ROM Hacking Discussion / Re: Pokemon GBA ROM Hack Ranking
« on: February 23, 2015, 11:47:56 am »
To start, take a dive into the Rom hacks section in here and type in the search Field "Pokemon".
You will see A LOT of hacks that are still missing in your list.

I.e. the ones I currently use for all my generations of Pokemon:
1) Pokemon Thunder Yellow
2) Pokemon Crystal: Emu Edition
3) Pokemon Emerald - Complete National Dex

For the remaining generations, I forgot the names.
Volt Black and Volt white 2 are for Gen V, and I think either Pokemon Origin Platinum or Pokemon Perfect Platinum is the one for Gen IV.

And that's just scratching the surface. XD

I have been looking for ideal emulator versions for future playthroughs per generation. What makes these ideal specifically in your opinion?

Thanks

Likely a fairly easy hack, and this can be done on most emulators in some way already, but in Punch Out!! configure the star punches to be A+B instead of Start.

ROM Hacking Discussion / Re: Hack Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3 ?
« on: January 05, 2015, 09:36:06 am »
Yeah, that's right. I just looked up the Game Genie codes. "AAESYXAA No energy loss from using turbo attack" Sounds like the right prescription.

On a side note, emulators are lame. Real hardware or die. >:D

Still own my original copy of this game, and my Game Genie if I need it.

I'd love to see a massive hacking project that tries to port the Rockman FC games to NES.
It would definitely be a lot of work and concessions would have to be made.

If that could be done (as well as MM9 and MM10) I would love to see a homebrew mash up of all the games into some manner of a marathon. Possibly use the Anniversary Collections for a base since they already have most of them?

Sounds like he's new to ROM hacking and English isn't his first language so I'm gonna say "No".

But if anybody want's to make a worthwhile hack of this game, change it to where your special attack doesn't hurt YOU as well as the enemies. It would make the game easier (whether THAT'S good or bad is up for debate) but I think it would make the game a lot more fun because of the serious lack of moves. I love the classic TMNT games but only having 3 or so attacks for an entire game just sucks. Gets pretty tedious near the end, especially if you go at it solo.

If emulating it, there are cheat codes to make exactly that happen. That could be an alternative.

17
These two already exist as fan games for PC. Look for "Rockman 7 FC" and "Rockman 8 FC".

Thanks, I will check this out.

Still would like to emulate it on my console if possible, but this might be a good start.

You could get a Wii fairly cheap on craigslist and mod it to run emulators. That is not a bad way to go.

ROM Hacking Discussion / Re: Practice ROMs for speedrunners
« on: December 26, 2014, 09:28:14 am »
How would you market this and how would you determine what needs to be done at each portion of the game?

I speed-ran Mischief Makers for a long time and I mainly tried to do 100% runs. The issue with those runs is that you can only collect each Gold Gem one time. If there was a way to reset each level individually when running it, that could be very helpful.

Back on topic, with Roll-Chan bringing some excitement back to Mega Man, I'd like to see all 6 NES Mega Man games made on the SNES using Mega Man 7 or Mega Man & Bass as a template.

I'd also like to see someone try adding the fatalities back into SNES Mortal Kombat. I know in this day and age we have MAME, and MK Arcade Kollection, but I think its overdue.

Heck, I would love to see MM7 and MM8 redone in the NES version. Get all 10 of them in the same style and breakdown.

Likely impossible, but having all 10 games (and Vs Street Fighter?) into one large game with all the powers could be crazy. Could be a long long long game with 80+ robot masters and powers.
